I love the Farm Cafe. They have the most delicious food and desserts. I also walk out of the farm feeling healthy. We go twice a month at least. The service is always great and the food is perfect. YUM! more

My wife and I had the pleasure of 6/10/2012

My wife and I had the pleasure of dining at this wonderful restaurant this evening, and it was a truly sublime experience. I just signed up for citysearch just so I could post this review and encourage everyone in the area to eat here as soon as you can. I was especially moved to write this review after noticing, to my astonishment, two one-star reviews. One reviewer was griping about the salmon, and another about the service. Since my wife and I are vegetarians, I can't comment on the fish preparation, but every dish we ordered was orgasmic, so it's hard to imagine them screwing anything up in the kitchen. Another person griped about being asked to leave...we found the entire waitstaff to be casual, friendly, helpful and prompt. Our waiter checked in with us several times throughout our meal, but not so much as to be irritating. If you want to eat some healthy, delicious food in a charming victorian house (with a very pleasant outdoor seating area), by all means check this restaurant out. We'll definitely eat here again. more

Overly priced. Salmon was lousy. 3/15/2011

Nice atmosphere. Some dishes are tasty. However, my main order of salmon was totally disappointing. It was overly salty and the portion was so small, it looked more like an appetizer rather than a dinner entree. If we had not ordered appetizers, I would have gone home hungry. I will never go back unless the restaurant builds a solid reputation for quality, quantity, and fair prices. more

My favorite PDX Spot with my favorite PDX server/bartender 7/20/2010

When it's in, the Farm's duck breast dishes are the best meals I feel I have ever eaten. The pan fried trout is out of this world. (I don't usually like trout at all) This trout is amazing so much the skin even finds it's way onto my fork. The orzo, vegetable sides, croquettes, root veggies, and others are always top notch. (Whoever said they take shortcuts is crazy) Every detail is paid attention to. I love the attention the bartender (Patrick) pays to the patrons also. He is friendly and always helpful and talkative, always there to assist in the drink selection. There are some wait-staff who are less than friendly and I can see how some have been put off by their less than upbeat demeanor which is why I never sit in the table section. I always sit at the bar and enjoy the house selected music and company of Patrick. The desserts are to die for. If you like Red Snapper, then get to the Farm early because the last two times I had to choose something else which is never difficult. The snapper runs out and the duck is a rare treat these days. So be sure to try the baked brie, roasted garlic apps, and if you need a good drink, try Patrick's always delicious concoctions. There is a great appreciation for Whiskey too. I want to go on but I hate long reviews. Just go there. If you get a server who you don' like, go sit at the bar and ask for Patrick. (I am not Patrick's friend, well now we're friends,or mother) he just is always right on the money and makes our times at the farm fantastic! The food is great. Try it.... I do agree thought with some of the reviews there are a couple servers who are less than friendly. I can't deny it but the food is great. Pros: Patrick the bartender!! And best duck, trout, snapper, PDX Cons: There is a server or two who are, ""less than friendly,"" more

Fresh farm to table 3/22/2010

I love the goat cheese salad! There will be a wait but the food is great and Farm has a comfortable atmosphere. Pros: good food Cons: no reservations more

Highly Unprofessional 1/18/2010

After spending 110.00 on drinks, apps, main dishes, and a few desserts we were asked to leave by the floor manager in order to prep the table for guests that had not even arrived! This is so insanely rude and unprofessional that I will never return. The other three in my party all agreed that despite the good food and drinks, any establishment that is so money oriented that it asks you to leave at the end of meal deserves no further patronage from us. I encourage you to not have your meal and part of your evening ruined. Do not go here. Cons: RUDE, RUDE, RUDE more

not worth the hype 9/2/2009

Too many shortcuts are taken at Farm - a place that was recommended to me for its seasonal, local ingredients focus. Well that's all fine and good but if a kitchen can't perform using those ingredients, then the time, care and money spent selecting them is a waste. A goat cheese ravioli married simple, good ingredients well then ruined it with an abundance of heat on the tongue. Two servers confirmed that it came from red pepper flakes. Really? Red pepper flakes belong on a slice at a corner joint, not as a finishing ingredient at a place claiming gourmet street cred. The veggie burger drowns in butter - the bun, patty and carmelized onions oozed it - and didn't come with the pickled zucchini described on the menu. It was a soggy, buttery mess. The one bright spot to our dinner was the grilled halibut, which was cooked perfectly and accompanied by a lightly seasoned, fresh assortment of shucked corn, peppers and zucchini. If you can make it here during half-priced appetizers at happy hour, then your money is wisely spent. Otherwise, skip Farm until the kitchen performance meets up with the quality of the ingredients. Pros: beer/wine list Cons: food more

feels like home 5/22/2009

in and old turn-of-the-century house, it's no wonder you feel at home when there. the staff is accommodating and kind, without being overwhelming. the food is fantastic and i agree with the last person... the baked brie is TO DIE FOR!!! Pros: great food/ ambiance Cons: can't make a reservation more

our family favorite 5/22/2009

this is my family's favorite spot in portland. whenever we're all in town, it's the first place we have a family dinner. my mom is a vegetarian, so the fact that they have great options for her is a major plus. for the rest of us, the decision making process is a bit hard, but for good reason. lately though, all i crave is their baked brie. i'm tempted to order it for my appetizer and again for my entr?e! Pros: great options for vegetarians too more

The food was too salty 2/3/2009

The blackened snapper and brussel sprouts were inedibly salty! and when we told our server, she shrugged and said that the chef already knew. For those prices, I would expect a substitution - or at least an apology! The other dishes were great, but that one spoiled the evening for the two who ordered it. more

Poor service. Boring food. 1/25/2009

First off, no reservations. Had to wait almost an hour to be seated.Though it was a sat night. The server was standoffish and didn't know a thing about the food. How can I be interested in the meal if the waiter doesn't know a damn thing? The food was boring. It tasted ok but looked like they slopped it on the plate. no sauce or anything. boring. The place was beautiful and nicely lit. Art on the walls. I guess I'm not trendy enough to like this place like the rest of you posters. Oh well next time I will walk 150 feet to Le'Pigeon. That is a good meal. Pros: Tell people you love it and they will think your cool. Cons: Service was the worst. nothing like a hipster saying ""I don't know. I'll go ask the kitchen"". Boring food. more

Great place 11/18/2008

My date and I enjoyed our meal here quite a bit. The wait was 45 minutes, but they offered to take our number and call when they were ready for us, so we were able to go across the street and wait in a coffee shop. We ordered the roasted garlic appetizer and cheeseball appetizer, split the seafood caesar salad and tofu marsala, as well as pumpkin pie for dessert. All of this and we were out of there for $40. Service was quick and friendly and food was good. The tofu marsala was outstanding, and we would return just for this dish. Cozy and warm on the inside, though not much to look at outside. We will return. Pros: good food, excellent tofu, good service, ambiance Cons: 45 minute wait more

Poor customer service 11/13/2008

I arrived with a group of friends and the restaurant was busy. I had called ahead to give them a ""heads up"" that we were coming and was told they don't take reservations, even though their web site says to call for reservations. They seated 2 smaller tables after we arrived and kept asking us if we are sure we want to stay and wait for a table. They did not even try to pretend to be friendly. The food was ok; the baked brie was soupy/watery, the drinks were just ok. The waitress rolled her eyes when 5 of us ordered the special chocolate soufle dessert that takes an extra 15 minutes to make. The experience was not a pleasant one. Pros: Good vegetarian options Cons: poor customer service, too loud to be romantic more

Hardly Memorable and Family Unfriendly 11/12/2008

I was excited to try Farm Cafe and expected a bounty of farm-fresh options. It was sorely lacking. I counted four families in the restaurant, all struggling to find something on the menu that the kids would eat. We ended up with a cheese plate and a hummous plate for our kids but the management would be wise to have better options for the under 15 set. I thought my meal was very good-I had the fish and my husband had the ravioli. Not only were they skimpy with the servings, we were actually charged for a basket of bread. Come on people! It just seemed really cheesy to charge for a few slices of a baguette. The atmosphere was cozy and the service was fine. Although when we mentioned that it would be nice if they had a kid menu, the server said, ""Oh, we can make things for the kids."" Duh. Why didn't you tell us that when we were placing our order. Pros: Cozy atmosphere Cons: Limited parking more

How do they DO that?!?!? 9/30/2008

First off, I don't understand the negative comments below AT ALL. We went on a friday night, with our baby, were seated happily within 20 minutes, and the waiter was awesome, even though we were not dressed to ""go out"", we were not ""profiled"" AT ALL as the poster below suggests. We had the cheese plate, which was AMAZING and MUCH better than cheese plates I have had at much more expensive restaurants, and I had the tofu, I have no IDEA how they made tofu THAT good. The mushrooms marsala with it were pefect, and the mashed potatoes were comforting yet different. Even though I am mostly a vegetarian, I tried my husband's fish and it was PERFECTLY delicious. WARNING: The drinks are delicious, but pack QUITE The kick! :):):):). We will be back!!! Pros: excellent food, vegetarian friendly, helpful servers Cons: a little crowded, but to be expected for an EXCELLENT restaurant! more

The risotto made me so happy I wanted to cry.1 9/19/2008

I had a great experience during my first visit. The vibe is great and there were several very interesting vegetarian options. I had the risotto with corn, tomatoes and smoky blue cheese and it was divine. I really can't wait to go back. more

Over Rated, Over Priced.... 4/15/2008

Granted we happened in to the Farm by chance. I had been interested in trying the place for quite some time although hadn't been. I was very please by the intimate decor and friendly host whom seated us although I was there with my friends husband. We found the ambiance best suited for a date and we joked about it. Pros: Romantic and vegan friendly Cons: Overpriced and lacking imagination in regards to the menu.... more
