Worst

Prices are higher than most. I my situation, I was told that I needed struts and it would $950.00 and a tuneup for $400.00. I brought the car to the dealer and was charged $480.00...

Very satisfied repeat customer 4/10/2012

So far I have brought a total of two cars to Family Auto Service. The first, a 2005 Dodge Grand Caravan was a train wreck. Bad suspension, bad struts and shocks, loose steering, bad wheel alignment, you name it. I had already spent upwards of $2000 at other shops, and it was still messed up. Steve and his crew did a very professional job, now steering and suspension is tighter than a drum. Give me the confidence to take the car on a 1500-mile road trip a day or two later. The second car, a 2005 Toyota Prius, needed only routine maintenance. I told them to do an oil change, new brakes and a tune-up. Turns out I didn't need a tune-up, although I did need air filters. Some other shops would missed this, and would have tried to sell me the unnecessary work. Family Auto doesn't do things that way. Need honest work done, look no further. more

Excellent 4/4/2012

Staff was very friendly. I went in for an Oil change and showed up late to my appointment. They found a way to pencil me in. I got an oil change and an inspection. My wait was no longer then 30 minutes. more

Rough Idle Problem Solved! 3/6/2012

I have been battling a problem with my Lexus. The car has been to two dealerships and two mechanics with none of them being able to figure out the problem. I almost gave up and got rid of the car, but FAMILY AUTO SERVICE figured out the problem! Thanks FAMILY AUTO SERVICE in Baldwin, NY !! more

Great service and fantastic customer service. 3/5/2012

Had one of the best repair service I have ever had with my car here. They are clean, courteous, respectful, efficient and very trustworthy. I went there for the first time today, but was treated as if I were a customer of theirs for years that they were going to take care of. Even took one the job of fixing what was broken and not done well by another establishment without giving me any problems repairing. I recommend you take your car to Family Auto Service in Baldwin for any repairs or service. I have never endorsed a service place before, but this place is great!! more

Efficient and customer friendly. 3/3/2012

Although, I board the train at the Baldwin LIRR station where Family Auto Service is located, I have not had the need to utilize their service. This past week, however I purchased tire online from Tire Rack and chose FAS to have the tires delivered and subsequently installed. The entire process was great. Tires were delivered the next day. I had the first appointment the following day. The FAS staff was pleasant. FAS even took care of updating my inspection which is something I often forget to do. I highly recommend. more

Brake light was on 3/1/2012

Dropped my car off on a Friday night for a Saturday morning appt. They called first thing in the morning with an estimate. Car was ready by 12:30pm. more

Price Overcharges 2/26/2012

Prices are higher than most. I my situation, I was told that I needed struts and it would $950.00 and a tuneup for $400.00. I brought the car to the dealer and was charged $480.00 for the struts and $260.00 for the tune up. I would suggest to be fair with you prices ans not overcharged. We will not bring back our 3 cars and family friends and church members will be told to stay away for unfair prices. RESPONSE FROM Family Auto Service: Customer did not go to the dealer.We checked the dealer database and found that the car never went to any dealership.In fact,the entire story was a fabrication.I challenged this customer and stated that if he could get me the invoce from where he allegedly had it repaired,i would pay the entire bill as there is no way anyone could do this job for the price he stated.He refused my challenge. more

Foreign or domestic, Steve's good at what he does. 2/23/2012

I've had a very good experience with Family Auto Service over 20 years and five cars. Some of the cars have lasted longer than Steve. He's like the Energizer Bunny, but he wears blue not pink. Steve looks out for the customer even in a business where he has to make money. He needs to pay bills and profit, but he doesn't gouge the customer. He's like a pit bull when he sets out to find the problem. He's good. Family Auto Service's rates are also compatible. I go to Steve because the dealers are outrageous. All and all, these prices are far more compatible. Over 20 years, I've never been stuck on the side of the road for any reason other than a flat tire. Never, ever. And neither has my wife. Foreign or domestic, Steve's good at what he does. He does it and does it well with the same parts he would use on his own vehicles. more

Excellent Service 2/13/2012

I asked Steve to do an oil change even though I had no appointment and he was booked for the day. He squeezed in the oil change, and my car was available when I came back later in the evening. more
