Faith Baptist Church & Schools

Hi I have sent my son to faith baptist for 4 years,He has scored In the 99% every year on his sat.I almost made the mistake of sending him to public school and when they tested him to place him they he scored five grades over his age group across the board.Faith is a christian school,if You have a problem with that don't send your child there.I would never send my child to a Muslim school and then gripe about what they were teaching!Christians are supposed to separate themselves from the ways of the world,and our children are our most precious gift. more

Good: I did not appreciate how much of hypocrites the principals are. They try too hard to be perfect and think they are, they should not own a school and they need more experience with kids.. Bad: Everything about this God-awful place. The teachers are horrible and fresh out of college.. Improvements: Better teachers, better attitudes from the principals, less stressing kids to join their cult of a religion.. Other: In general this school is just awful and no one should make their kids suffer here.. more

Some of my favorite takes from these reviews: **'after I transferred to Taft I found out what "diversity" is'** Question: Is that a good thing or a bad thing? How 'bout splaining what you mean by "diversity", and then splain why it was better to be at Taft. I mean, did you have diversity of health-status (lots of sick and healthy), or diversity of age (old and young), or maybe it was diversity of intelligence (lots of stupid and smart)? ------------------------ **'children need to experience right and wrong for themselves'** How profound. Yes, let's let children, who don't even have a mature and fully functioning cerebral cortex, experience right and wrong for themselves. Riiiiggghhhtttt. Who are we to teach them about right and wrong. Rape, murder, theft... kids need to experience it first. How about lying, deceit, fornication?... what a wonderful idea, let's allow kids to experience it for themselves before we tell them what is right and wrong. After all, there really isn't any such thing as right and wrong, it's just up to each individual... so just make it up as you go. Let's go do some meth and then have an orgy so we can experience it for ourselves so we know if it's right or wrong. Who cares if society has to bare the burden of our screwups, we'll just blame it on everyone else for not helping us out enough and teaching us right from wrong. Yahoooo! ------------------------ **'I still believe in God.'** Great... you and the devil both do. ----------------------- **'cult, cult, cult... brainwash, brainwash, brainwash'** So we're supposed to believe that you've all been brainwashed?!... brainwashed for what purpose? to accept Jesus Christ?... as if. So all the other people who attended Faith were stupid and therefore brainwashed, but a few of you were soooo freakin' smart that you were able to mentally fight your way to come to see the real truth. That's a great way to go through life, just discount anything you don't agree with by calling it a cult. Yah, send your kid to public school because they don't brainwash kids at all.... the NEA, DOE and teacher's unions, they want you to learn about Christ and the Bible. Of course they do. And they're open to all forms and kinds of teaching about everything... and all the students get puppies and ponies and rainbows too. ---------------------- Wake up people! I attended Faith baptist since 1st grade until the 9th grade and it opened my eyes to how one-sided their view on life is. When I transfered to William Howard Taft, I found out what "diversity" is, and the reality is that many of my friends who graduated from Faith baptist are doing nothing with their lives. I did enjoy elementary school, but Junior high was so horrifying and first year of high school was so depressing. Until this day, I am still revolting over the rules and hatred they have for non-christians. Faith Baptist strangled me, mentally, and when I left, it was the freedom from FB that allowed me to grow. I remember my class went from 100 students to 40 students when I left. I remember I was so confused with all the religious propaganda they put into my head that I had nightmares. At the same time, the teachers and pastors are hypocrites because there was all these rumors of infidelity. Teachers getting fired for misconduct. I remember going to church at 1pm after lunch and one day, I got beat up right outside of church and a parent stopped it, and nothing happened to the kids involved. This is a school who reprimands you if you do not cut your hair a certain way, or wear a belt with your pants. It was strange. I still believe in God and I still go to church, but I don't believe that Faith Baptist teaches the true meaning of what the Bible preaches. They have a good math/calculus, computer and english programs; but everything else is either mediocre or average when compared to LAUSD schools. I would send my children for elementary because they do teach good fundamentals in terms of study habits, and grooming; but I would not have them attend Junior high/senior high there. You do not want your child brainwashed and view the world with such a one-sided perspective especially when teenagers need to experience themselves what is right and wrong, and they need to figure out how the world works with out the rigors of cultist religion and fanatical beliefs. more

It seems to me that the negative responses in this website are bi products of everyones unwillingness to accept that Jesus is our Lord. I don't see why so many of you complain that the school is so strict and religiously inclined. Its called FAITH BAPTIST SCHOOLS for a reason. The main reason most of you dislike the school is because you don't believe in their Faith; and since you don't believe in their Faith then you are obviously not going to believe in their Faith based education. It is also very disturbing to see people saying that the school is not academically qualified. Thats absurd; I know of people right now that are attending Yale, UCLA, USC, Standford, and Harvard that are Faith Baptist Schools alumni. The bottom line is that the people that say that the school isn't academically qualified, are probably the people that don't want to accept Jesus as their Savior. Also, to you that don't like people telling your children that their going to hell if they don't receive Jesus; let me just say this... ITS THE TRUTH. The teachers are not trying to scare your children, its what the Bible tells us. Finally I just wanted to say sorry, if I offended anybody, it truly wasn't my intention. I'm just a firm believer of the gospel of Jesus Christ, and I respect Faith Baptist Church for implementing Jesus into their schools. My sincerest desire is to see all of you in that wonderful place called heaven. Remember; life goes by quick, but eternity is forever. i really love faith it is such a GOOD school i have learned soo many good things there that have helped me . Im thankful im at that school the teachers are really nice and try there best to help us understand what we are learning the staff are also very friendly .I LOVE THAT SCHOOL i wouldnt move from that school if it were also a college i would stay but unfortunatly it isnt. i love the education they give me there . My friend who left last year from this school wants too come back she says she really liked that school and hopes she can come back soon . The students are very nice and are a great influence there I never hear the cussing .I am reaally amazed on the bad comments people have about this school im a student there and the teachers never yell at you ! ive been there since k4 and know they dont yell at you . Im in seventh grade thats 8 years and i want to stay LONGER i also love the bible messages they have there they are awsome! Pastor Tim is a great preacher and MR. RASS the principle is also very friendly i often see him around campus picking up trash and greeting everyone HE is a GREAT principle My sister graduated last year from faith baptist and now she doing great in college and is the top in alll her classes i thank god for this school i dont think anyone should give a bad comment about this school IT IS AWSOME!!!!!:) more

not sure which way to go- im gonna give you some advice you can take it or not. but i was a student at faith baptist for 9 years (k4-8). i don't regret going there because it opened my eyes as to how screwed up people can be. but on the other hand i really am ashamed. the brainwashing they inflict on kids is incredible, i mean in 2nd grade i actually thought my dad wasn't my real dad because i was told that jesus was my real father (in heaven). and that christmas was evil. long story thanks to my 3d grade teacher! my cousins went there too and when my aunt went to complain about the ridiculous things that were going on the principle was relentless and unwaivering. and as far as education goes Faith Baptist is no Blue Ribbon school the elementary english department is good but everything else is crap i went to Chaminade College Prep from there (wow what a school!) and i had to re-learn everything because my math background was so shaky. i also had a hard time with science since most of the classes the teacher talked about why she thinks evolution is wrong. oh and my 6th grade teacher spent much of class when we were supposed to be learning history, that catholics and jews were going to hell and that girls shouldnt play sports they should be cheerleaders..oh and she always made us take our scrunchies off our wrists...never understood why. anyway, they put their own religious beliefs against your child's free will, individuality, and most importantly their education and success. they're extra curricular activities are limited (ESPECIALLY for girls) and useless because most are religiously based. SO there are MUCH better schools in the area and education is really what your main concern should be. you seem like you care enough to put them in a "safe" school but no school will shelter your kids from the real world the best defense you can give them is the principles you instill in them. that's all i remember not what some preacher told me. Self respect and compassion. and believe me, there is no real compassion at this school. you're too worried about breaking another rule or sinning then what you're there to do...LEARN. Church is for Sundays, hundreds of dollars a month is supposed to give your kids the tools they need to get into the top schools and be successes. basically, PULL EM OUT. if you happen to agree with the intolerance, hatred and judgment justified by choice Bible verses then that's what Sunday school and youth programs are for. oh and if you do believe in the crap the preachers spew here...well then you're a hypocrite. to make it simpler here's a video about Bible verses i love http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aLvf12lJuEQ&feature=RecentlyWatched&page=1&t=t&f=b now im not an atheist but i definitely don't believe in organized religion. more

Ok, Mr. Self Important Yale Boy... you think you can step down off of your pedestal now? As someone who endured that school for 10 years, I think I can speak with authority when I say that the place is, in fact, a "cult". Yes, I received my Christian foundation from there, but it wasn't until I graduated and began attending a different church, did I begin to "de-program". The church teaches intolerance for any other "religion" other than Southern Baptist. They push hard core, ultra conservative, right wing, fundamentalism. They actually preach AGAINST other churches... churches with a sound Christian message! They make up rules and guidelines and say that they are backed up biblically, when in reality, they take verses out of context and skew them to mean whatever helps their agenda. I would not subject my children to their confusing teachings... especially when there are other good Christian schools around. As far as their curriculum goes... the elementary school is good. It's not great, but better than public school. Junior high and high school, however, leaves MUCH to be desired. They do not prepare you for the rigors of college very well at all. They offer a bleak selection of "elective" classes. AND, I do know for a fact that they use non-accredited teachers... some of which taught me, and I was dumber for it once I moved on to the next level in my education. Hey, Dr. School of Medicine show off, do you actually have kids at that school? Did you actually attend or are you just sticking up for a school that you haven't had experience with? Most of the kids I know who went to this school had anxiety or drug problems because of the EXTREME rigidity of the school. It is just too much. School doesn't have to be like this to get a good education. How many of these teachers are actually credentialed and know what they are doing? Private schools don't have to hire credentialed teachers and credentialed teachers are taught how to teach and behave properly, understanding the developmental stages of children and disorders that might affect them. Non-credentialed teachers can unwittingly damage children, as I have seen happen to kids from this school. -A doctor of a different sort more

After reading both reviews, I found myself really thinking about my stand with this particular school. I have 4 children who currently attend this school. For the most part they like the school, I like the academics. I feel that the teachers are qualified, but the school itself lacks customer service skills. I don't agree that the children should be told that they will go to hell if they are not saved. My kids came home upset the first couple months of school. I believe that as a parent, if we really get involved and guide them, then they can withstand what their told at school. I make every effort to stay involved, so that I always know what is going on. The after school care is pretty bad, the after school staff have yelled at the children for no reason. I never let my children stay after school out of fear the staff may let them go home with the wrong parents. I don enjoy hear my children recite their bible verses, and sing the songs. What I don't appreciate is how the administrative staff gives their service, they are rude, and combative, and always seem to be bothered by the fact that the parents need information from them. Even the principal seems to be a bit rude. Again, I am not sure how take it, so I am giving it another year to see how things progress, if it remains the same, then I will try another school next year. more

I don't normally post to message boards, but the initial reviewer's comments engendered a response. Faith Baptist Church and Schools is one of the finest schools in Los Angeles. The curriculum is rigorous, and the environment cultivates moral character and accountability. Unfortunately, public elementary education has replaced the 'three Rs' with the 'three Ds' (dinosaurs, diversity, and dolphins)... ask a child from just about any public school, and they can tell you much about those subjects, but little about long division, diagraming sentence structure, or the tenets of Western Civilization. Faith Baptist is a welcome alternative to the failed experiment of post-modernism that has disadvantaged a generation of America's children. The staff are excellent, warm, and authentic. I will not soon forget the compassion displayed for my family as our son endured two open-heart surgeries. If believing that the Bible is God's word and that Jesus is our Saviour, constitutes a "cult", then your children have more to fear from the biggoted comments of the previous reviewer than they do from Faith Baptist Church & Schools.
