I was excited at the idea of EMP, even the building being so far out, but I'm disappointed. It costs too much and there's not enough for children, in my opinion. It is definitely ...

not worth the money 7/31/2005

I recently went to the EMP Music Museum with my 2 kids ages 3 and 1 and I think overall it was a huge mistake and overpriced for what you actually got to see. Now, it may have been a lot more fun if my childrten were older as there was not a lot they could do. The music lab for instance, its a really cool idea but I didn't get the chance to play much because of the crowds you get on weekends. So, if you can find a babysitter and go on a weekday it is excellent. If you need to go on a weekend day or with kids I would skip it and go to the science center instead. more

Experience the EMP 7/29/2005

The EMP project is a cool museum with lots of artifacts, exhibits, and live performances that have to do with music from all ages. Music from the past, the present, and yes the future. Its not just a museum that you walk through and look at, you get to interact with most of the things. For example they have a room with music instruments that you can sit down and play. They also have a dj station where you can learn to scratch. Theres all sorts of activities to do there. This place taught me how music started, where it came from, and I learned to appreciate it more. Tickets are average museum priced, if you want to go to the science fiction museum part, it costs a little bit more. more

If you always wanted to be a rock star... 7/26/2005

but have no talent...then you will probably have a blast at the EMP. I went there with my mother and two very young kids and we had the time of our lives. Next time I would go without the kids, though, because they were too distracting and there was such so much to see and enjoy. I loved going into the studio and 'jamming' - I have no musical talents whatsoever, but it was fun to 'have a go' in private! My mother and I were like teenagers, having such a giggle... We thoroughly enjoyed the songwriting exhibit last summer. I believe you can record a song there as well, which I intend to do with my husband for fun one of these afternoons. If you get the Entertainment books, there is usually a 2 for 1 coupon inside. more

EMP 7/25/2005

The EMP has some interesting exhibits, but overall it isn't worth the price. The music laboratories are fun, you get to play drums, keyboards, and guitars, and the early rock n roll exhibit is interesting, but the museum seems way over priced. I enjoyed the Beatles and Bob Dylan exhibits I saw there, but it wasn't worth the $20.00 ticket price. It's obviously geared towards tourists, and it seems like a good draw. The architecture is received mostly negatively, but I really like the building (It's supposed to look like a smashed up guitar). It might be a worth a visit or two, and it's a good attraction for out of town guests, but overall I don't think it's worth it. more

Experience Music Project 7/14/2005

When this opened a few years ago, I had much higher expectations from a museum that was so highly anticipated and talked about. It's cool, to be sure, but admission is a whopping $20, so the mission statement about music education is a little suspect. There is a ton to see and experience, no matter what kind of music you prefer. The collection is enormous, but not all of it will interest you. A lot of it is pretty junky and it's impossible to get to everything in a single visit. I was there recently and was actually impressed with two of the temporary exhibits: Bob Dylan/Jimi Hendrix and one of the first hip-hop displays I've ever seen. The curators (or whatever?) do a great job with the temp stuff. Some of the photos were amazing. Since I wasn't around in the 1960s, I felt like I came away with a clearer perspective. If you're visiting Seattle, you can skip EMP unless you're a huge music fan willing to shell out $20 to go a so-so museum. more

EMP 7/9/2005

This was the best museum that i have ever been to, i had a blast! For tourists to Seattle, this is a must see! The architecture of the building simply left me in awe. The inside is so bright and colorful, you just want to look at everything at once! I really liked the little handheld computers that you carried around to get more information about all of the exhibits. The price is a little steep and its pretty crowded, but definitely worth it! more

If you are into music this is the best place you can go. They have great exhibits on music from the seventies to now. They have a ride that is really cool and other little attractions. It is a great place to go. The prices are not bad. They have a little bar type thing that holds concerts once in a while too. It is a good place to learn more about music. I really enjoy going here. more
