Best

The place has been around since I firs lived in NY, always liked it and now with some to me new items on the menu is a hit once again!

Worst

Nice setting, great server, yummy desserts. The problem was the entree -- the pork chop was incredibly dry and tough. Definitely take a pass on this one and choose something els...

Good old E Village tapas 9/11/2011

Overpriced and tasteless 8/14/2011

In Spain, ""tapas"" are small affordable (sometimes free if you're drinking) plates of fresh food. At Euzkadi, Tapas is overpriced tasteless old food. The Tortilla Vasca (a glorified omelet) was hard, old, and oily. The Bacalao was tasteless, unseasoned (except for cayenne pepper) pieces of codfish swimming in oil and peppers so hot that I couldn't eat it. I ended up sending it back. We walked away paying $45 for two small salads and an old piece of tortilla. No wine or desserte either. Just ridiculous. Warning, the prices are about 20 percent higher than the prices advertised on their website. Don't waste your money at this ""theme"" inauthentic restaurant. more

Best basque cuisine in the East Village 3/13/2011

I love this place. I go at least 2 times a month and order something different every time. Everything is always perfect!!! The manager and staff are super nice, always say hi, get me a good table, give me a comp glass of wine. Not expensive, and just delicious. And the atmosphere is really carefree and fun. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!! more

Great food, service and ambiance! 3/8/2009

Celebrated my birthday with a group of 12 at Euzkadi and I'm still thrilled with the place. Everyone really enjoyed themselves, the place is lively, great crowd, we ordered a number of tapas for the table and were impressed with everything that came out. Michael provided us with amazing service and the music was just perfect. Can't wait to go back. Pros: atmosphere, good staff, music more

A hidden gem - Great ambiance, authentic food and friendly staff 12/18/2007

I went for dinner with some friends and loved the atmosphere and food so much I came back again for my birthday with a bunch of friends. Make sure to share some tapas - loved the avocado feta cheese, goat cheese w honey and the seafood salad tapas. The service was great and very accommodating. I am a stickler about getting my water and it arrived promptly after we were seated. The lamb was my favorite and the red wine recommendation went really well with it! I will definitely come back and highly recommend Euzkadi to anyone who is looking for a warm, cozy place to come to for dinner or to have a fun birthday party with a nice mix of music playing in the background. A hidden gem in the East Village, can't wait to go back! Pros: Fun atmosphere, great food and service Cons: Make a reservation Fri and Sat more

Great Tapas, Tight on Space 12/4/2007

It's been a while since I've been in this part of Manhattan and Euzkadi is a great reason to drop by. We went and were seated promptly. Around the time there weren't that many tables filled but within 30 minutes it got pretty crowded. We decided to order several tapas instead of going with their signature palleala. The tapas were great and the rioja we had complimented the meal nicely. Space was a little tight but the food was delicious. Though at one point it was hard getting the attention of the waiters because of how busy it got. Overall a good experience. Pros: Food Cons: Tight Space, Crowded more

Terrible for groups, disorganized, tasty but aggravating 11/24/2007

We reserved nearly a month in advance for a large group. We were seated by the door and had to flail to attract attention to order sangria. While we waited for our last arrival, the server informed us that anyone who planned to order paella HAD to order it ASAP. We had not ordered our appetizers yet and tried to defer, but he insisted, so two couples ordered the paella for two. We then placed orders for several appetizers. Before they had even arrived, he told us the paellas were ready, and no, they couldn't wait for us. So he served the paellas. We four had to eat our dinners as the others had some appetizers. Their entrees arrived over a half hour after that. No one apologized and he seemed if anything more surly the more inconvenienced he made us. Would not go back. Pros: Tasty Cons: Awful awful service more

Great place for a languorous trip through Basque cuisine 11/10/2007

So we went to Euzkadi for a birthday celebration. We were a party of 6, some of whom are fairly picky eaters. The Maitre d' seated us in the back round table. We said it was too crowed and he offered to reseat us. We played musical chairs and wound right back where we started with only a bemused look by the staff. I mention this only because some other reviews said the staff was haughty. Pros: Great food and good value Cons: Service - only if you are in a rush more

Authentic tapas and great atmosphere 9/5/2007

Went for tapas and drinks with my sister and a friend on a Sunday night. The space was small but we arrived before the dinner rush and were seated right by the window. The atmosphere was very charming. We wanted to order a pitcher of sangria and when we couldn't decide on which type (they had the traditional red and a white/pineapple), our waiter was nice enough to bring over a glass of each so we could try both before we ordered (we ended up having the white, on his suggestion that it was better for summer - it was very refreshing). We had four tapas dishes and enjoyed everything. The pintxos (open faced sandwiches) we tried were the chorizo with chili-spiced chocolate and the aguacate/avocado gratin with feta cheese. Both were excellent and unique. The fried goat cheese with honey tapa was out of this world, and the patatas bravas were the best I've had - and I used to live in Spain. I have no complaints, and will definitely return the next time I'm in New York. Pros: food, service, ambience more

Warmth, hospitality, and yum! 8/5/2007

On a Sunday night for a small birthday gathering, in contrast to the young and crowded atmosphere down the street at St. Mark's, Euzkadi was a warm and intimate reprieve. Our server was readily available and helpful (taking pictures for us, refreshing our water and drinks)--he brought us a round of free champagne for the birthday party and even brought us another one when we managed to spill one. We ordered 6 small dishes, the paella for two, 2 desserts, 2 sodas, and 2 wines, which barely broke a very reasonable $100. The food was savory and yummy. Try the hearty paella, the aguacate (bread with avocado and feta), and setas (sauteed mushrooms). Pros: Food, Ambience, Service Cons: Desserts are plain more

I like, very much 5/28/2007

3 words: try the paella. Since I have to write more, enjoy the relaxed atmosphere and the affordable, extensive wine list. more

Love this place 5/16/2007

Discovered Euzkadi last Wednesday night...mmm great tapas and sangria!! Oh and some kind of super yummy chocolate mouse-like dessert..soo good! Can't believe I missed this place before. There was a nice, small, chill crowd when we arrived, we must have stayed for 2 hours. Our server was so patient, Thanks! Great place, can't say enough. more

Topnotch tapas 5/3/2007

I was walking by this place with friends on our way to Esperanto and the place looked so inviting that we decided to try few tapas.Fifteen tapas,2 carafes of white sangria and 3 hours later we were still there. We just couldn't get enough. Two thumbs up. Pros: Tapas , white sangria , ambiance more

An interesting place 4/23/2007

My boyfriend and I went there on wednesday night. We were looking for a quite spot with not much going on and this was just it. Decoration is amazing with cave paintings on the celling and souvenirs from Spain. The food was really good, fried goat cheese with honey, avocado and feta cheese, choriso...yummy! We love wine and this place has a great wine selection from all over Spain and we also got to taste the Sangria which was good. Since it wasn`t very busy we`ve got a lot of attention from the waiter and we really enjoyed our time there! more

Avoid on Friday Nights... 4/21/2007

We found this restaurant from City Search want to try with our friends, so we were 4 and went there to eat tapas and paela... Seafood paela was really bad, rice wasn't cooked well and we expecially order it without pork , but it came with pork anyway it wasn't tasty... Sangria wasn't good enough as well, the best stuff we ate was flan, i can just recommend flan there, it was good, but rest of the food was definitely below average.. I don't recommend. more
