Surprised! 12/14/2007

I just moved to the Portage Park neighborhood about a week ago and am trying to visit every local business. Elemental Gifts was first on my list (just yesterday), since it was highly recommended by my neighbor. I needed a gift for a female friend and I am extremely grateful to have a shop like this in my area. It took me a while to find just the right thing, since they have such a diverse selection. I finally settled on a pair of handmade earrings by a Chicago designer. The (young) lady that owns the shop is great and she did an amazing gift-wrapping job. I will definitely be coming back.....perhaps even for that signed Hester jersey (drool). And maybe even to have some framing done or to buy art to put in my new place. Pros: Selection, look and feel of the interior, service Cons: none that I noticed more

Great and unique experience 11/26/2007

I was buying a gift for my mother's birthday in October. Everyone was so helpful that I did not have to spend to much time looking for a perfect present. I realized that this is a wonderful place to get something for everyone's taste. My girlfrien'd birthday is coming up. I will be there again. more

Recommended to me by an artist and he was true to his word. Fun, fantastic example of why Chicago is GREAT! Thanks Terry! Pros: Excellent service more

Best Darn Gift Shop in Town 11/12/2007

Elemental has such a variety of items for sale, that it's hard to decide what you want.\r There are gifts for every occasion, and something for everyone.\r \r I cannot believe someone would write such a negative review, other than having a personal vendetta against the store.\r \r The vibe is welcoming, and the owner is the best!\r \r A not to miss shop! Pros: Owner, Ambience, Variety, Quality Cons: I don't have enough time to shop! more

Perfect shop for your mom, girlf friend, or wife! 5/17/2007

I love Elemental gifts! It's the perfect place to go for any special occasion, for a girl. And even have a few cool things for guys. It has A great location, with tons of parking. A huge selection of very reasonably priced gifts. And A awesome owner, who is knowledgable and a good conversationalist.\r \r The shop seems small at first glance. But when you walk inside, It seems to have grown in length before your eyes. It is also very recommended to attend a Elemental Gifts event! There are great deals, and many artists/designers to talk to, and shop from. Also the Cheese and wine are awesome too. \r \r Being a Professional Chef I can tell you the owner Suzan, Has great tastes!\r \r This place is A must visit! Pros: Good selection, great prices, Ample parking, friendly atmosphere. Cons: There events are always on Saturdays. I always have to work on Saturdays! more

I love this store! 5/7/2007

I am furious as I am writing this review! I actually went to Elemental Gifts not 10 minutes ago and was disappointed that the owner, that is always pleasant to talk to when I shop there (and this would be the third time shopping there now) was a bit on the down side. I was so upset to see her upset that I even signed up on this website (honestly did not know what it was before......getting uncool). As it turns out, someone wrote a completely disgusting review on this site about Elemental Gifts (and I also think it's a nasty competitor - I owned a similar shop about 10 years back and it reeks of that kind of mentality - people can be disgusting when they are jealous - especially the ones who walk into your store and try to act like they do not own their own similar store and are beyond rude, but anyway...) I just read it and can tell everyone that it is completely and absolutely false. This is a delightfully pleasant shop. In my opinion, they ARE very unique when it comes to jewelry and art and other items, and classic and stylish in their decor. I have (so far) purchased a music box for my niece, jewelry (for myself mainly...heehee...I hope my husband doesn't read this), candles, greeting cards and a teapot. Unlike the previous review, the last thing that I would call this shop is ugly. It is remarkable and there is nothing like it in this neighborghood or any other. Ok, maybe in Long Grove, but you drive all the way there if you have time. By the way, I came back today to thank the owner for the henna tattoo at her event on Saturday. She had a lovely trunk show (with lots of nummy treats and wine...yey). Regardless of what anyone else says, I really love this store and I will continue to recommend it to everyone I know. And a little message to the owner: Chin-up kiddo....ignorant people will always exist. more

not worth the trip 5/6/2007

i love finding new out of the way boutiques in the city's up and coming neighborhoods, so i was eagerly looking forward to visiting this shop when i found out about it. i was SO disappointed!! the merchandise wasn't very interesting or unique and the store itself was just ugly and not very well put together. the lady who helped me was nice enough, but a bit on the pushy/desperate side. i ended up leaving without buying a thing, and definitely won't be back. Portage Park is going to have to try harder than this if they want me to make the effort to drive out again. more

What a lovely shop! 11/19/2006

This is really and truly a lovely little shop. I have been on the hunt for a shop in Chicago that sells such a wide variety of art, jewelry and unique gift shop items, and I found one. It was surprising to find something like this so close to my neighborhood (Old Irving Park). The ladies that own the store really know how to make you feel at home (and the store relatively resembles one). I highly recommend this one, especially since you do not get the snotty attitude and looks that you would in a store closer to the lake or in the burbs (yes, I like to shop in sweats). more

Wow...........this store is everything that this neighborhood was missing! 11/19/2006

I don't have to drive all the way to Park Ridge or Long Grove to do my Christmas shopping anymore. Yey! This lovely shop (and gallery) at Six Corners will really take your breath away.......they have everything; paintings, handmade jewelry, every possible candle scent, awesome Christmas stuff! You will just die when you see the decor.....very unique and tasteful. I can honestly say that there is no atmosphere like this in any store in Chicago. The staff could not be friendlier or more informed. Oh, they also hold charity events; you can check those out on their website (too much info). It's hard to find a store that cares so much about their artists, community and clients anymore. I am definitely coming back to this shop......I couldn't carry anymore on the last visit! \r Pros: Everything, especially the atmosphere! more
