$$$ The creepiest gym in the city 12/8/2009

This is by far the most creepiest and overpriced gym I have ever joined. The building was some sort of hotel in the late 1900's (???). It's huge and smells like my grandmother's house. It reminds me of the hotel in the movie ""The Shining"". The workers at the front desk are all miserable and the lighting in the building makes you want to hang yourself from the chin-up bar. They have the shittiest specials like ""Sign up for 10 years and get one month free"" The clientele is a bunch of smelly old geezers with squash raquets up there snooty a$$es. The plus side is that it is never ever crowded. Join here if you miss the 70s. Pros: Never crowded, throwback to the 70's Cons: Membership $$$ not reflected in the facilities more

Filthy Death Trap 4/1/2009

This place is a dump. All machinery is encased in sweat. I won't even touch the free weights without using towels on my hands. I once saw drops of bl00d on the ab bench. I complained about it, and the next day, it was still there. I wound up cleaning it off myself with the spray and a towel. The treadmills often give electric shocks when you touch them and on several occassions, they've abruptly stopped while I was running (at high speed). There has been a leak in the ceiling of the stretch room/sit up area for about a year. For months, no one could do sit ups because they refused to moved the ab equipment and mats out of the cordened off leak area - they kept claiming the leak would be fixed soon. A year later, it still hasn't been fixed. Members pick up equipment up and move it around (the ab bench, in particular) so you can never find it when you want to use it. It's only a matter of time until someone gets seriously hurt using their shoddy equipment, or catches some disease from their machines drenched in bodily fluids. And good luck complaining about anything - most of the staff is rude and unresponsive. I put up with this place for a long time because it was so close to my apartment, but I finally realized it's just not worth it. Cons: Unsanitary, Dangerous Equipment, Rude Staff more

Eastern Pathetic 7/16/2006

Eastern Athletic is a pathetic excuse for a high-end gym. they charge nearly $100/month but the facilities and service provided are of a $60 dollar a month gym, which is what makes this place so frustrating. A renovation that was supposed to last 6 weeks has lasted nearly a year, with paying customers subjected to dust, fumes, noise, and workmen everywhere. Each year they close for ten days of ""annual maintenance"" (no pro-rated break in dues for customers!) and then when it reopens it looks exactly the same. For a long time they've been the only show in town for Heights residents but with an equinox opening shortly on Joralamon street (same price as eastern pathetic), this gym could be shutting its doors soon. Unless you play squash, steer clear of this gym. they don't value their members and it shows! Pros: location location location Cons: terrible value, indifferent attitude toward members more
