Happy Camp Experience 6/22/2012

My 10yr old daughter has spent the last week here at camp and loved every minute of it! When asked about her day, she rated each 8 out of 10. Points were lost for her because she's not a fan of the porta-potty they have on site. :) Very pleased with this experience. more

6 year old had a great time 6/15/2012

My daughter spent a week here for summer camp and loved it. She enjoyed the animals and activities. We plan on coming back again. She also learned a great deal about working with the horses. more

Terrible Experience 3/9/2012

I have to say I am very confused by the good ratings this place is receiving. However, I did read some where people experienced similar problems that I had. For one, the owner is very rude, unfriendly and short tempered. I witnessed her screaming on the phone at someone. I also witnessed a staff member yelling and arguing with a customer; I'm a firm believer in good customer service so that shocked me. You should never yell at a customer! Also the place is very gross and I feel bad for the animals. If you like a scenic view of sewage filled pastures, go there. I volunteered there and was yelled at, talked and cussed about, there was little instruction given, I had several safety concerns and THEY DIDN'T LET THE OTHER VOLUNTEERS AND I EAT LUNCH! We were there for at least 6 hours and were never given a break and when we tried to eat lunch we got yelled at. However, the staff was eating Wendy's and making macaroni and cheese! The place is basically run by teenage girls. So if you like a farm in terrible condition, unfriendly and rude staff, being talked about when they think you can't hear, not being fed, given no break, being bossed around by 14 year old girls and having no one concerned about your safety, then go here! And if you like being treated terribly even though you are working for free, then you should volunteer! When I went, I was kind of surprised that there were no returning volunteers; it was everyone's first time. But now i know why, no one in their right mind would go back there. The only reason they have volunteers is because the farm is beyond understaffed. It was by far the worst experience of my life and I can't stress how terrible it was. I've heard several stories of customers falling off a horse and breaking bones. I'm surprised this place hasn't been shut down. Please save your time and money and go somewhere else; any place is better than here. more

Awesome Camp! 8/10/2011

My daughter Haley D. absolutely LOVES the camp at Dead Broke Farm! Ms. Rose is her guide and Haley adores her and has learned so much about horses with her. The camp is extremely interactive and fun and Haley loves handling all of the other friendly animals there. The whole environment has really complimented her creativity and free spirit, and her enthusiasm for the farm and the staff is contagious! Dead Broke Farms is the right answer to that yearly summer dilemma, "what can my kids do this summer that is safe, affordable, educational, and lots of fun?" Thank you to the staff at DBF! more

Great Camp! 7/29/2011

My kids, 9 and 11 attended Deadbroke Farms camp this week and loved it. Despite the heat, they loved outdoor activities which included a trail ride or two daily, wagon rides, swimming in the pools and cuddling the sweet dogs and other animals. Great time for them this week! more

Summer Day Camp 7/8/2011

Kids had a great time at camp this week. They loved the animals especially the horses, bunnies, and dogs. The environment is very unstructured and supervision is loose so may not be comfortable for all parents. more

Fun for kids 6/24/2011

My daughter really enjoyed Dead Broke Farm and stated they taught her a lot about horses! She loved caring for the animals and thought the staff was very well informed and they were always able to answer her questions. Overall a great experience! more

Little Emma had a great day! 6/16/2011

So I picked my daughter up after work today. She was full of smiles and couldn't wait to show me the horse she got to ride today. She talked about it all the way home. Thanks Dead Broke Farms! more

Summer Camp 6/14/2011

My 5 year old did not want to leave. She has talked constantly about the wagon ride, brushing the horse and petting the animals. Her horse rides are with an adult ("two person ride" as she said), so I do not worry. She keeps asking why she can not come here everyday. more

Kids can be kids at Dead Broke Farm! 11/3/2010

My very active, very creative son (8) and daughter (7) LOVE Dead Broke Farm. I keep asking for their most favorite thing about it and they say "everything" each time-- but I think riding the horses, playing with all the animals, and in general having a relaxing, fun-filled, unstructured environment are what make it such a hit! If you believe children need stimulating environments to explore at their own pace without constant intervention by well-meaning-but-stifling adults (admit it, we are bores) every minute of the day, this is the camp for your child. Kids can be kids like they used to be before soccer and violin and scouts and church and homework took up every waking hour. Kids can learn about nature and responsibility and charity (the farm helps so many horses!) first-hand and not through a book! What a great experience for them! more

Dead Broke 10/20/2010

My six and eight year old are attending Dead Broke for track out camp. It is the first time riding a horse for both of them. I have been amazed at how much they have loved it, and how they have not been afraid, even after falling off the horses! They come home every day tired, dirty and happy..and already asking to do it again next track out. more

Disappointing Birthday Party 8/26/2010

We had our daughters 6th birthday party at Dead Broke Farm. I read several online reviews and was impressed. However, we were very disappointed in our "party" experience. I would not suggest using the picnic tables or taking food, other than apples for the horses. Remember that this is a farm and be prepared for that. We felt everything was disorganised and that safety was not a priority, especially considering these children were 6 years old or under and inexperienced riders. Riding caps did not fit or had broken clips. When I questioned the poor fit, I was told it was unlikely that my daughter would land on her head if she fell off the horse. We had paid for 3 horses for the children and were only given ONE person from the farm to help lead horses. This meant we had to ask parents to lead the other two horses. While the children had a wonderful experience on the trail ride (which deserves 5 stars) I do not feel that this is the right environment to host a childrens birthday party. more

Fun summer camp for kids 8/18/2010

Our family went for a trail ride here, and our 8 year old had so much fun he asked if he could go to camp there for a week. He had just that one riding experience going into the camp so he was a true beginner. The staff helped him choose an appropriate horse for his level to ride every day, and over the week his confidence grew. There are two organized rides every day for campers. The rest of the day the kids choose what they would like to do -- play with dogs, chickens, horses, bunnies, swim, or just run around the playground. This is a true living-on-the-farm experience, and my son came home every day tired and dirty and with a big smile on his face! It's pricey, but if you want a lot of exposure to a wide variety of animals this is definitely the camp for you. more

We have so much fun!! 1/3/2007

Every time we go to Dead Broke Farm, the people are so nice, and they explain everything well. The horses are well behaved, and the trails are fun. If you want to take a fun ride, and learn some things about horses, this is the place to go. more

Fun at the Farm =D 12/29/2006

At my recent visit to Dead Broke Farm me and my children completely enjoyed ourselves. From the friendly guides and gorgeous horses up to the fun trails and crossing creeks. The wonderful scenery and great outdoors. The perfect excersion from a stuffy day in the house or at work. more

The Best Place to Go Horseback Riding 12/5/2006

Dead Broke Farm has some of the most awesome horses and trails that you could ask for. The horses are responsive, and the guides are very willing to assist the less experienced riders when needed. We thoroughly enjoyed our ride and plan to go again in the near future. I highly recommend this horse farm to anyone who enjoys horseback riding or would like to try it for the first time. Our ride started about a half an hour after the scheduled ride time, so plan extra time to allow time for them to get everyone up on their horses. more
