Editorial review from Citysearch 12/14/2013

I took my MDX here a few years ago because I knew I needed a new timing chain. I asked the team to inspect everything to see if there were any other problems with my car. They gave me a long list of repairs that needed to be done in addition to the timing chain replacement. After I was given this list I took my car to a master mechanic and friend who used to run Tower Automotive on south Lamar, Dave Gordon, a very respected business man that sells and repairs luxury cars. He inspected all the things David McDavid Acura claimed were wrong and pointed out $1800 worth of repairs that did not need to be done, parts of my car that were in perfect working order. They claimed I needed new brake pads and that there was only 2 mm left on them and that I had a major oil leak, among many other ""problems."" My friend and and master mechanic proved that these were all lies, and he charged me nothing to prove it to me. When I took my car back to David McDavid Acura of Austin, I asked Raj to put my car on the lift and open it up and prove to me they didn't try to scam me. He had a mechanic show me, using a ruler I proved that I had 5mm left on my brake pads and not 2mm like they claimed. Raj and the mechanic told me they must have used a bad ruler to measure it. I asked them to show me what they described as a ""major oil leak,"" there was not one single drop of oil seeping from my car and they tried to claim that the residue on my car was a ""major leak,"". One by one, I forced them to prove to me all the ""problems"" they claimed my car had, and one by one they lied about them like I was an idiot, which was a slap in the face. Finally I called the master mechanic David Gordon who runs Tower Automotive on South Lamar and I gave the phone to Raj and the mechanic. Dave Gordon who has twice the experience they do basically told them, ""Sorry guys, you tried to scam this little lady and I looked at your list of problems myself."" When they hung up with him they told me that Dave must be mistaken, that me must have not looked corrrecltly at my car. Raj refused to let me talk to his manager/GM, who was a woman at the time when this happened to me. I called her, she avoided my calls. I came to meet with her and she had Raj tell me she was in a meeting. She even closed the blinds in her office and hid from me when I came to tell her what happened. She never once even apologized to me. This was a severe slap in the face. Women, don't bring your car here unless you are prepared to have someone you trust double-check their work. I was almost scammed into paying an extra $1800 for things that were in perfect working condition. To this day I don't know why I never reported them. Never again will I give them my business! more

I've had no problems with McDavid's service 11/2/2011

My car at 204k miles. David McDavid has been servicing my car since I bought the car, new. I will continue to go back to them for servicing my car. Two days ago, my SRS light came on. Michelle was kind enough to create a space for my appt. with very short notice. Turns out there were no major problems with the car. I had just installed a new battery a day earlier and somehow the new battery and me putting electronics gear in the passenger seat tripped the light. Service could have taken advantage of me at that time and I would not have known better. They didn't. Instead they reset the light and we are going to monitor to see if it happens again. I appreciate the honesty. more

Very Disappointed!! 10/10/2011

Don't go here. I bought a CPO Acura few years back. Bought an extended service package. The battery has died twice in my car for no apparent reason. The so called service rep was only interested in telling why it is normal in Texas heat for batteries to die in a year and why i will have to pay for the replacement because battery is not covered in the warranty. The manager, Raj Cheddie, was no better. Basically just lip service. Compared to Lexus customer service, these guys are pathetic. I like Acura cars but with such deceptive sales practices and sub-par dealership experience, my next car will be something other than Acura and in the mean time, I would rather go to a no-name mechanic than this dealership because basically they both will offer the same service. At least, I am expecting such treatment at a non-Acura service station. more

Screwed me on brakes 10/4/2011

I bought a used acura TL from these people very recently. Within a day of driving the breaks started locking and screeching violently. The car obviously had bad breaks and the SALES MANAGER HERSELF claimed that the breaks had recently been replaced and that the wear on them was insignificant. Again, the sales manager of this dealership said the breaks passed inspection and when the car got to me, the breaks were in such dire need of replacement that the mechanic was surprised there was no damage to my roters. She even had the audacity to tell me that the mechanic was trying to sell me on a repair the car didnt need! YOU COULD HEAR THIS CAR BREAKING FROM OUTER SPACE. They screwed me over a relatively cheap repair that they could have easily fixed. Put me $500 bucks in the hole and could have cost me a lot more. Customer satisfaction is of no consequence to these people. I have already filed a complaint on this dealership with the better business bureau. more

Terrible Customer Service 4/13/2009

Where do I start? First I went there once to get another wheel lock key because mine had broken twice already. They would not give me another under warranty and wanted to charge me $75 to remove one wheel lock. When I refused this the manager came out and said they will try to remove the wheel lock using the shop's set, but if they break it while they are trying to do this then I will have to pay for their part. Went across the street to Discount Tires and they removed it for free in 5 minutes no questions asked. Cons: try to rip you off more

David McDavid Acura - Horrible Service 4/29/2008

The service offered by David McDavid Acura is horrible. The technicians were not technical enough to spot problems and did some lousy job in checking actually what went wrong. They would do something anyway, for 3 times, but not fix the issues. Took to another car shop and fixed immediately. \r \r The manager was not professional either, I'd rather say rude, not treating customers with respect. Won't go back again. more

The straw that broke the camels back. 1/31/2008

\r I have never really liked David McDavid Acura service. They go through service advisors every few months and I always felt they were not being completely straightforward. Today absolutely confirmed my suspicions.\r \r I took my 2004 MDX in for a 75k service today. They said it would cost $129 + tax. I incorrectly assumed (my mistake) that it would include everything in the maintenance journal indicated for a 75k checkup. It didn't. They wanted to charge me $99 each for a power steering flush and VTM flush. I won't be back. Pros: The service Acuras Cons: Not well more

Pass on McDavid's Service 12/18/2006

I've been taking my 04 TSX for service there since I bought it only b/c it was under warranty. While the car is outstanding, I've still had some warranty work performed. \r \r Visited McDavid Acura in Austin approx 9 times (including regular service), if you don't include the return trips to fix something they've messed up. Almost every time, they either failed to fix the problem or did such a sloppy job reassembling, that I had to come back. Once they didn't connect up the air intake ducting and stuffed the air intake temp sensor under the engine cowling. No air filtering and wierd engine performance for three weeks until I discovered it. Another time the engine underbody panel came loose and was dragging along the ground b/c they didn't reinstall the panel with enough of the correct type of bolts. Left the oil cap loose on top of the engine was another careless mistake. Didn't attach the front bumper cover correctly after a headlamp replacement. Thank God the only thing they didn't mess up was a brake job. They never offered any form of compensation for my time.\r \r I too was promised free loaners any time I brought my car in for service. They still do it, but only when pressed. Lately, it's a cheap Dodge Neon, or similar, not the usual TSX loaners. No idea whether they will still honor loaners once my warranty expires.\r \r My clutch isn't smooth anymore and they said that they might fix it under warranty, if it doesn't look like abuse. I continued to press the service agent for specifics of how they determine warranty coverage and he said that basically, the clutch shouldn't show any signs of wear at 39K unless there was significant abuse. That car is my pride and joy. I'm 34, impeccable driving record, baby my car around b/c I intend to have it for a very long time.\r Acura is Honda's premium line, but I've gotten much better service at regular Nissan and Chevrolet dealers. Honda should look closely at McDavid's service lest Acura's good name get further tarnished. Pros: Fair deal when I bought the car. Cons: Consistantly horrible, sloppy service. more

Horrible customer service. Go to Sterling 11/15/2006

When I purchased my 2004 TSX they promised a loaner car whenever I brought the car in for service. The first time I did they told me they had 'discontinued' the free loaner. Just last week my car, with only 38,000 miles, had a complete clutch failure. They told me it would be a warranty replacement unless they decided it was 'abuse' such as downshifting at high speeds, as is done in street racing. I found this pretty funny, since I'm a 36yo woman and I've never raced in my life. I assumed it would be fine. But they came back and said they would not pay for the replacement. They refused to put me in contact with the zone rep who made the decision. In general, they have been completely uninterested in preserving a good relationship with this customer, and I can only assume they treat everyone else as poorly. Pros: Acuras are great. Decent location Cons: They don't believe in customer service. more

Go to Sterling Acura instead, not here! 11/1/2006

I dealt with both Acura dealerships in Austin - Sterling and McDavid. McDavid Acura is your typical car sales place that will make you want to run. They were high pressure, and tried to pigeon hole me twice. Their salesperson was unprofessional as well. Go to Sterling and see a guy named Mike Leass. He is very pleasant, honest and truly cares about making sure you have an excellent car buying experience. Very knowledgeable too. Also, I got a much better lease price at Sterling than McDavid. BTW I have not purchased a car from Sterling as of today, but had such an opposite experience at the two dealerships I wanted to voice it here. Pros: Same selction as any dealership Cons: High pressure, needy sales people. more

Don't waste your time with David Mcdavic 8/6/2003

I agree with the other review. Go to Gunn Acura in San Antonio. The sales rep we had was rude. After only 5 minutes he told us that there is no negotiation because they sold 2 cars just last week with the high price (almost $2000 more than San Antonio) and was unwilling to work with us even though our offer was reasonable based on consumer reports. When we got up to leave he just walked away without thanking us for coming in or anything. We bought the car in San Antonio, hassle free, excellent service. Pros: Close to Austin Cons: Expensive, Rude, Crowded more

Go to Houston or San Antonio 2/24/2003

It is worth the time and effort to go to the other dealerships. This was the WORST buying experience EVER!!! Horrible finance department, horrible salesman, rude managers,..., the list goes on. I love my car but I will never go back there, even for my service routines. Cons: monopoly in Austin, Awful cust. relations, Terrible service more
