My husband and I have been going to the Dave's on Howard Lane for years. They have the best customer service. Everyone is always friendly and very helpful. They have gone above and beyond for us on many occasions. It's refreshing to have a reliable auto repair place for our vehicles. They are hard to come by these days. We have never felt ripped off. They are competitive with their quotes and do their best to beat other quotes. more

Austin's Best Mechanic's 11/16/2011

My car is my baby and I love taking it to a place where the people all know what's going on and what they're all talking about. Dave's is such a place. Everyone here is super freaking nice and they all are genuinely interested in you and your automobile. They don't give you a run around, they don't give you long winded "recommendations" they just wrench on your car, tell you what's wrong (should there be something wrong) and tell you how they'll fix it. Well Done!! Above and Beyond! 11/16/2011

Wow! This place is awesome. I brought my car in for noise's in the rear end, was told by another shop (ok Sears) that I needed shocks and rear differential service. The noise was only above 50 mph an hour so wasn't sure if it was true or not. Went to Dave's the Service Manager took it for a ride, came back in, told a technician to put in on a lift. Found out my rear tires where scalloped. All I needed was rear tires, shocks where ok, and they did the differential service for me. I am so glad to have Dave's. I tell everyone I know and all my co-workers to go to Dave's. They even have taxi coupons for someone that gives you a ride to drop off the car or for you to pick it up. How cool is that! Price Gouge Kings 11/6/2011

These guys are outrageously expensive! They charge 100$ diagnostic fee even if you know what is wrong and you tell them. Then they charge you 150$ for a drivability test... all before doing any work on your car. So FYI, you are out $250 just for your car landing on their lot. \r Then once they do work they charge far excessive labor. I dont mind paying for labor, but 4hrs to change a fuel filter. Heck, 4hours!! how many cars can they see per day if they work that slow.\r Also, most of not all of the great raving reviews must be fake! They really just read like advertisements. When you read them, just think about if a real customer would actually talk like that. \r STAY AWAY more

WATCH OUT!! 11/6/2011

As mechanics these guys might be OK, but really watch out for their pricing. For me they charged 100$ (2hrs) for an initial diagnosis. That would be OK if I had not told them exactly what was wrong with the car to begin with when I dropped it off. So they spent 2 hrs finding out what I told them for free. On top of that, they charge me with a "Level 1 drivability test and inspection" which is 3hrs or 150$. So I am out 250$ before any real work is done. They find two problems (one of which was dubious). Both of those apparently took 4hrs each, or 400$ in labor to fix. One of those was to change a fuel filter which should not take a good mechanic 4 hours. I leave one star since there is actually a chance that my car is actually fixed, which would be nice. AMAZING!! 10/13/2011

About two weeks ago, i went to Dave's to get my state inspection and oil changed. When i asked how long it would take to do everything, my estimate was an hour. i got a phone call in about half that time, with it finished. Very reasonably priced. Everyone at Dave's was friendly, and supportive and explanitory of what needed to be done. I have no idea how cars work, nor when to get the oil changed. I'm so glad i took my car to Dave's. i will DEFINATELY be back! Thanks Dave's! more

Almost got rip off 7/26/2011

Went there to get my check engine light off, I was told that it was my gas cap. They told me that i needed a diagnostic of $99 I came out with and estimated $1500 in repairs. Guess what?? I went somewhere else, they change my gas cap, and I passed the State Inspection. more

Social humans, and real nice 5/20/2011

There are a lot of things I love about this place! First off, the people who work there, I have yet to meet someone nasty or not smiling. I believe her name is Michelle, was just amazing. I told her I would come back by about 1, but ended up my friends wanted to take me out for a while longer. She gave me a call to make sure I didn't need a ride back to the shop to get my car. more

Honest, Prompt, Excellent 4/29/2011

I have been using Dave's for years and I just want to rave about their amazing service. Todd especially, is wonderful. My car recently hit 90K miles and has been vibrating when braking on a big hill, plus I wanted to see how it was doing, what I might need to get done in the coming months, etc. Normally walking into a shop and saying "tell me what I need done" is carte blanche to take royal advantage of you. Not at Dave's. They did a very thorough inspection, found I needed my brake fluid flushed (they show you the test strip) but that my pads and rotors were great, that I should pay attention to the fluttering, and they'd check it out at my next oil change. Additionally, my power steering fluid needed flushed. Otherwise, they declared the car in great shape. In half the time they quoted me, my car was done and ready to roll. And, since I refer people to them all the time, I had referral credit on my account. My "Big 90,000 Mile Check-Up" final cost? -$22 Yup, I still have a credit on my account and spent nothing out of pocket. I have a good hairdresser and a good mechanic. Life doesn't get much better than that. more

Excellent Customer Care 4/13/2011

I live in Dallas and was on vacation in Austin last August. The transmission went out on my Honda and Dave's installed a rebuilt one. There is a 12 month/12,000 mile nationwide warranty and a 24 month/24,000 mile local warranty. Last week, the transmission started acting up on me. I was in the Dallas area. For whatever reason the nationwide Napa warranty wasn't going to cover my problem. The manager at Dave's stepped up to the plate and assured me that they would back their work, even if the Napa warranty wouldn't. They paid to have my vehicle towed to an independent transmission shop in Dallas and paid them to do the work. The people that I dealt with were extremely friendly, understanding and helpful. It is very refreshing to know that there is a place that actually works hard to make things right and backs up their work with more than words. That place is Dave's Automotive. more

WOW Great service and serious techs 1/19/2011

Long time user of city search, but I have never posted a review until now. I love Dave's I have been bringing all my cars to their Howard lane location for about 3 years now. Brad and Dwayne's customer service is great and the work I have had done on my car has been stellar. I am not sure how much money I have saved getting things done right the first time, but im sure its a butt load. These guys set the bar for REAL CAR CARE in a world of mis-trust and shady dealings. 5 stars RUN dont walk. more

Family! Honest! Trustworthy! 1/16/2011

I've been to many auto shops locally in the Austin Round Rock area, and none of them have had exceptional service and great workmanship. Before going to Dave's, I was always shopping around for cheap auto shops, but everytime I did, I would get burned. You walk in to most auto shops locally, first thing you see is a grease monkey running the place who always wants to take your money. At Dave's you walk into a warm-freindly environment and they always know your name. They go over every detail of services provided and give you many options to help with your budget. They helped me with with extended warranty and had it repaired within a two days. For sure every vehicle that I need serviced, even if its just an oil change, is going to Dave's, THANK YOU for getting me back on the road again! Pros: null Cons: null more

WHAT THE HECK HAPPENED 12/9/2010

I have my daughter in Austin as a student at UT,I have read so many posistive reviews about how good and honest you folks are and told my daughter to go there.She calls me with a qoute of over 1000.00 for brakes on her 97 civic,i called around and found instantly 5 shops in Austin that could do exact same job for half,are you folks in kahoots with using only expensive Napa parts. I have told my daughter to stay away from a shop that obviously is posting thier own hi five great reviews,no one posts 10 good reviews the same day unles they are the owners of an establishment-we are not that stupid. more

WOW 1/19/2010

Being new to the Austin area I'm once burned twice shy about new mechanics working on my SUV. I read all the comments on Daves and decided to give it a try. Its THE BEST experience I've every had with a repair shop. They told me exactly what was/wasnt wrong, did NOT try to sell me things/services I didnt need, were very straight forward with pricing and timelines. Believe me when I say I've dealt with plenty of servers in the Gulf coast area and never met this kind of service before, I say thank you to everyone at Daves on Congress, its well worth going to. friendly, knowledgeable repair shop 11/16/2009

Very pleased with service at Dave's ultimate automotive. My car had been running with a pulsing, shaking feel for some time and Ive had other shops recommend fixing the transmission or starter. J.R. from DUA informed that I had a worn out hose that was causing to much air to be pulled in relative to fuel causing this now drastic pulsation. Really appreciated the detailed information, and now my car runs better than it has in a long time. I will definitely return to Daves for any future car problems. I recommend it to anyone who wants service on their vehicle from real people who will talk to you straight and get you back in your car asap. The free pick-up service is extremely helpful!
