Editorial review from Citysearch 3/8/2014

Honestly if it was an option I would give this establishment 0 stars. I brought my well worn leather boots to get repaired at David's, he asked me to pay in advance ($130) which I didn't mind because usually small business owners are very reliable. He said they would be done in about a week and to come back the following Friday, my schedule is very busy so I came back a week after he told me to and said they would take another week. When I reminded him that they had already been here for 2 weeks he started to yell at me saying that I was a liar and that he was ""dying"" and I thought that my boots were more important than him being ill. Offended I asked if I could get my boots back and a refund and he told me that my boots were at a different location. I asked where I could go pick them up and he scoffed and said that he didn't know. Now I don't know if I am getting my boots back and I'm down 130 bucks, do not trust this man he will scam you and will make you feel guilty when it was truly his fault. If you want to be called ""the most inhumane person he has ever met"" and get yelled at by a crazed middle aged man be my guest. more

Great place 1/20/2012

So I read all these reviews and had to go see if whats being said was true, I left some shoes to have the soles and heels done they were very nice to me when I droped the shoes off and when I picked them up, the work was really good and they looked like I jus took them out of the box more

BEST REPAIR MAN EVER 1/20/2012

I recomend Daves shoe repair to everyone! The reason why is because I brought in my winter jacket that i loved but couldnt wear because the seam on the side of my jacket was ripped and he fixed it like it was brand new. I can wear it for five more wonderful years. I also brought in a pair of boots with that job and he did a great job cleaning them and shinning them up. I love his work. and recomend this place to everyone. Its a hands on one on one costumer experince that you cant miss out on. more

awful place - under new ownership - don't go there!! 11/11/2011

I had no idea they'd switched over to new owners. Had I read these reviews I would not have gone there. They aren't worth one star. Had the same experience as others -- needed a slight tear repaired on a purse and was told it would cost about $25 (which I thought was ridiculous) but he said he need to replace a larger piece. Wasn't ready a week later when it said it would be; but told me I could come back and pick it up in half an hour. I waited and picked it up just last night and had the WORST customer service ever. The boy would not get off his phone - horrible service - very rude person. AND today I realize that the new owners SMOKE in their establishment. So, yes, I now have to air out my Dooney & Bourke purse because it smells like cigarette smoke. Will never go back there. more

I Still Cannot Believe It.... 10/24/2011

After I dropped my Uggs off I went home and read the reviews of this place. I thought there was no way I was going to get the same bad customer service. I was wrong! All I wanted was some minor water stains to be removed. I was told they would be done on Saturday. Well I went in TWO says later on Monday and they were NOT done. He brushed them with some sort of a brush for about 5 minutes and said ""Well they are not perfect..."". I paid $30 to have home clean them and then apply water repellent. All he did was brush them for 5 minutes and they still looked horrible. There is NO way this guy will be on business much longer. P.S. This place is under new ownership, no longer Dave who owned it at one point. STAY AWAY! more

Poor Customer Service! 10/2/2011

I brought a pair of dearly loved sandals in to get them repaired because I couldn't find anything to replace them that I liked as much. They were leather and the surface where my foot rested was worn through. I was appalled that the repair would cost $45 when they were originally $40 sandals. But I got them on vacation in Florida and I thought that I would have paid that much for new sandals and this way I was keeping them out of a landfill. They were repaired to my satisfaction, however a week later the strap pulled away from the new base that had been repaired, this was a new problem. I immediately brought them in and showed him to see what he would say. He shrugged and said ""it's old leather"" and said he would charge me $10 more to fix it. (It would take about 3 stitches.) Now, maybe the problem was due to old leather, maybe to his inefficient stitching when he reattached the older leather to the new surface. But his manner was offensive and rude. When I already paid him an exorbitant price there was no need to be offensive and act like I was the crazy one and it wasn't his problem. In an age where shoe repair is a dying art and repair shops are closing everywhere (this was the 4th one I tried to go to, the 1st 3 I knew about were closed) GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE should be a priority. It would have taken him a couple of minutes to stitch it together and send me on my way with a smile. Unfortunately, I will not be returning to this place. My daughter needs a zipper replaced in a pair of boots...anyone have a recommendation for somewhere I should go in the northwest metro?? This place is too far from my house and too rude to patronize anymore. more

Poor Service and Poor Craftsmanship 9/20/2011

The customer service here is lousy, shoes were not done when they said they would be done, general demeanor at the counter was indifferent and not helpful. Also, loose stitching and hanging treads on the repair, my brand new boots were damaged with scratches and gouges in them. A zipper that was installed in the boot is too long for the boot. This place is awful. I want my $ back as I am going to have to bring my boots to a different cobbler to be repaired. This place sucks. more

Reasons for discrepencies in reviews 9/19/2011

I was thinking of going to this shoe shop but noticed a schism between the reviews and the timing of the reviews on the web. Here's the reason: startribune. com/obituaries/89306917.html more

AWFUL AWFUL 6/2/2011

AWFUL AWFUL, Still in shock! Is zero stars not an option? Wow. This was honestly the WORST customer service situation I have ever encountered in my life and I am still in disbelief about how I was just spoken to at Dave's Shoe Repair. I brought in my shoes to repair ONE small button on a strap...that is all, on May 27. I was told it would cost $37. Yes, $37 for ONE button! I was in shock but paid the money and definitely shouldn't have! I was told the shoes would be ready on Tuesday. So, when Tuesday rolled around I left work to make a special trip to pick up the shoes that were promised to be ready on Tuesday. When I got there, he didn't have any record of my name or shoes and then said that they weren't ready. I said, ""But you told me to pick them up on Tuesday?"" and he said, ""What day is it today?"" I couldn't believe my ears! He said they would be ready in a half hour but I didn't have a half hour to wait. I came back 2 days later to get the shoes and when he brought them out, he had ripped off the button that was already attached on the one shoe and replaced both shoes with HUGE buttons that looked nothing like the ones that the shoes came with and were not the right color. I tried to be nice and asked for a partial refund just due to the shoes not being ready on time and I had to make a special trip. He literally laughed in my face and said absolutely not. I asked if he normally promised pick up times and then didn't have them ready. He claimed that he never has anything ready until the late afternoon and that I came in the morning on Tuesday to get my shoes. I did NOT come in the morning at all! After I asked why he didn't offer a refund and was talking to me with such bad customer service, he said ""So sue me!"" I was so shocked that I said ""What?"" and he said, ""So sue me!"" At this point, I thought I was in a dream, was this really happening? He continued to tell me that my shoes were ""ratty"" when I brought them in and that he worked a ""long time"" on fixing them. (Note: Remember above when he said that it would only take a half hour to fix?) Not to mention, I'm not sure how size 5 Steve Madden heels that I've had for one year and wear maybe 3 times a month to work can look ""ratty"". But more importantly, who talks to customers that way?! You are a shoe repair store so probably ALL of the shoes are ratty, that's why people bring them in! WOW. This man was the most disrespectful person I have ever encountered. He wears a funky hat, has many missing teeth, and is old. I have no idea if he is actually ""Dave"" or not but it doesn't matter. The public should really know about how awful this experience was so they don't have to experience it themselves. In this time and in this economy, the consumers have millions of choices in every area. Bad customer service and unkept promises simply do not have to be tolerated and businesses like this one that practice this type of service will soon go under. I know many people and am apart of various social networks so I will definitely spread the word about this as much as I can. more

Dave's Shoe Repair 5/24/2010

I have know Shawn's work or over ten years. There is nothing he cannot do. And his work is uncomparable to anyone's else. He is a true craftsman of a dying art and from the ""old school"" . Whether it is heel repair, sole replacement, zipper replacement, or mending hockey mitts - his work is impeccable. He is a renaissance sort of man and has even created shoes different from anything on the store shelves. He will thank you with an incredible contagious smile and you will be treated like you are his only customer. He has customers that have been with him for over 15 years. BRAVO Shawn! Pros: Second generation shoe cobbler. True craftsman. more

Best customer service 7/21/2006

I will not take my shoe repairs to any other place in the twin cities. Dave was so great in repairing my wedding shoes which my new puppy ate a few days earlier. I described my situation and circumstances and he made a point to get these shoes done right and quickly. He reconstructed the entire front tip on my heel and matched the fabric perfectly. I still take my repairs there even though I don't work in the area anymore. Pros: Parking, customer service, fast results Cons: aviod during rush hours more
