Did the tasting menu with wine pairings. From the stone cold butter to the soggy amuses to the miniscule servings, Daniel was truely disappointing. Tastings were so small and pa...

Best Restaurant - Top Food, Service and Chef 11/17/2006

I am a foodie and a regular at numerous celebrity chef restaurants, but this was my first time at Daniel. I have read the reviews and the awards ""Best Restaurant in the World"" ""Best Restaurant of the Year"" ""Top Chef"", and I was curious to see if the restaurant is what it is. I was not disappointed. The food was excellent, and the presentation divine. The service is top notch and the decor is spectacular. I would highly recommend this restaurant for a special occasion, and a romantic night, or a smart business deal. Whatever you decide, it is worth checking out. Just bring your Amex! Pros: Ambience, Service, Tasting menu Cons: Expensive, and 1 month in advance or more for reservations more

Impecable service, fantastic food 11/12/2006

If you ever have a special occassion to celebrate, Daniel is the place to go. The prices are up there but it's well worth it. The serving experience is beyond compare and the dishes are the best you can get. the hot fois gras is one of my favorites. Enjoy a drink at the bar first and prepare for a one of a kinf dining experience. Pros: Serice, food, atmosphere Cons: price (but you get what you pay for) more

Most attentive service 11/4/2006

A truly amazing experience for my six year anniversary. We had the six course tasting menu paired with wines each step of the way. The food was fantastic with an array of flavors with each dish and presentation that could belong at the Met. Pros: Service second to none, Great food Cons: Price more

Surreal Experience 11/2/2006

This has got to be one of the BEST restaurants in Manhattan! The food was perfection. Foie gras, lobster, sea bass, lamb...everything was superb. Not to mention the fabulous wine list. The ambience is fabulous as well. The mirrors on either side of the room make it appear larger than it is. SO romantic. We came here for my boyfriend's birthday and had an amazing time! Pros: food, ambience, food Cons: stuffy wait staff more

Best food and service . We enjoyed the experience of dining here. 10/8/2006

Thank you Chef Daniel for the elegant tasting menus. You are a true genius of cuisine, and your staff deserves much praise for their service and kindness. Your restaurant will be a definite highlight of any trip to NYC. more

Favorite special occasion spot 8/12/2006

I love Daniel...plain and simple. It's my number one choice for birthdays and other celebrations. Service is the best in the city and the food...the only place that compares in my book is Le Cinq at the Four Seasons in Paris...I love it and could not imagine life without it! more

A great place for a romantic evening 6/15/2006

I took my girlfriend here for a night out of the home. We were given a private room and the best service one could hope for. The food was outstanding. Pros: Excellent service, great food Cons: Expensive more

A night I'll always remember 3/21/2006

It was the first time traveling to New York with my boyfriend and one that I will always remember. He'd looked up the top 10 restaurants in the world and Daniel popped up. I made a reservation a month in advance and very glad I did. We arrived 30 minutes early but they cheerfully greeted us and had a table already waiting. Our waiters were exceptionally well dressed and helped me pick out a great wine. Our water was always filled and the bread guy was determined to let my boyfriend try every different bread that existed. I took a restroom break only to discover that when I got back, they replaced my silverware and covered my dinner. The food was fantastic and cooked to perfection as well as the dessert. We ordered the three course meal and were so stuffed! I highly recommend Daniel! Pros: Fine Dining more

Great Fine Dining experience. 3/18/2006

Ambience romantic and elegant. Everything we had was delicious, prepared to perfection, and with beautiful presentation. Appetizers; tuna tartar and ravioli. Main courses; lamb and beef dishes. Dessert; chocolat black forest (a dark chocolate lovers dream) and banana dessert. All mouth watering. Good size portions for fine dining (even too much for me. Husband finished mine). Impressive wine list. We opted for an inexpensive bottle recommended, and really disliked it. Aside from the wine Sommelier, the staff was really superb, friendly, knowledgeable and attentive, but not intrusive. Water filled when glasses were half empty, crumbs cleaned often, wine repoured continuously, and all that jazz. It is one of our NYC favorites now and we plan to go back. more

Below Expectations 1/31/2006

Taking into consideration all the hype, this restaurant was not up to our expectations. While great for a formal or business dinner, the restaurant lacks a certain comfort level and takes itself too seriously. Service was very good, but uptight and impersonal. The only thing as delicious as dessert was David Ostad who was dining with his posse including Jessica Alba and singer Rob Thomas. Great food, but the ambience is too stiff. more

The Experience Of A Lifetime 12/28/2005

I am no stranger to upscale dining, and out of all the restaurants ive been to, this takes the cake. The service is unbeatable from the etiquette of the staff to the food. We had our own team of waiters serving us. Our every whim was catered too instantly. With each course they would explain in great detail what it was we had ordered. In between courses we were served trays of little samplers which were delicious. I had the veal which was cooked to perfection, for dessert I had a hot chocolate souffle, which was amazing. Daniel himself even came over to our table to speak with us. Pros: Food, Service, Decor Cons: price, price, price more

Service is Impeccable 12/26/2005

Wow! Gorgeous dining room. Very friendly service was impeccable and made you feel welcome. The value you get for the money is astounding. We ordered the regular $98/ person price fixe three course dinner. We were presented with a three tier tray of extra small appetizers and an extra dessert (chocolate yule log with meringue mushrooms) to share in addition to the ordered items. The little things set the service apart: everyone at the table is served at once and a small loaf of baked bread in a nice gift bag was presented to us upon leaving the restaurant. Can't wait to go back to New York and dine at Daniel again! Pros: Service, Food, Ambience more

A little piece of Heaven 11/16/2005

Who knew butternut squash soup could be so good? At Daniel, the service. food, atmosphere and experience was unbelievable. The waitstaff was extremely attentative to our needs and although we felt like taking an etiquette class after dining there, we were extremely satisfied with the delicious food. We went with the 4-course tasting menu which was just right. Loved the Braised Short ribs , which was aged for 32 hours in delicious sauce. It was a wonderful birthday dinner for my bf. Make sure to make reservations 1 month in advance and call early! 7pm spots go fast! Great place to take someone special. Pros: Food, Service, Atmosphere more

whew.....what a night 11/14/2005

No doubt this place more than lived up to it's reputation. The place is beautiful, you never want to leave. From cocktails at the bar to the final taste of the wonderful dessert it was all spectacular. Food, service, timing...all perfect. Go for business, pleasure ora special time. eat everything. Too many items to recommend just 2 or 3. If only the wine was a bit more reasonable........ Pros: all more

absolutly fabulous!!!!!! 10/12/2005

I live in boston and have always heard about daniel. When I finnaly got the chance to go, It more than lived up to my expectations. We arrived late for our reservation , but were still sat promptly. we got the 8 course tasting menu and every single course was perfect. service was attentive. and ambiance was very nice. I cant wait to come back. Its a great place for special occations. be prepared to devote some time to this dinner its about three hour long if you do it right. we even got to meet daniel balud. he came to the table and said hello. what an unsuspected treat. overall i believe this is the best restaraunt i've ever been to. Superb. 8/31/2005

I think this is the best french restaurant in the city. Everything from service to food was flawless. The place is beautiful and full of class. You must go and try it for yourself. They also provide a huge wine list. The only word I can think of for this place is ""perfection"". more

Anniversary Special 8/8/2005

My wife and I have spent our last two aniversaries at Daniel and intend on coming back next year for our 25th. Both evenings were outstanding. The food and the service were remarkable. You feel as if your dining alone even when the dining room is fully occupied. Each visit we asked for help with our wine selection and were extremely pleased with the recommedations. We also mentioned we were there for our aniversary and were treated to a special dessert. We intend to spend many more anniversaries at this truly special resturant. Pros: Food, Service, Wine more

excellent 8/3/2005

This dinner was simply excellent, friendly and amazing. I don't need to say more. Pros: very friendly more

Best French Restaurant in NY! 7/31/2005

This was our best fine dining experience in NY. As compared to L'Orangerie in Los Angeles, this French restaurant wins hands down on service and food. The reviews are excellent and rated amoung one of the top restaurants. Plan on spending a pretty penny as their dishes average over $50/plate. It's a must to order a nice bottle of French wine at your table or you're truly doing yourself a disservice of having one of the most memoriable experiences. They are gay friendly and serve all customers with true professionalism and courtesy. We received some great tips on what to do in NY while chatting with our server. Pros: Romantic, Excellent Service, Delicious Appetizers Cons: Expensive, Must make reservation more

Is taste the first sense to go? 7/12/2005

This is probably true because the reviews are way too high and the patrons were probably visiting from Boca. My four dishes were all flavorless. I thought that the bland lobster appetizer was intended to make me crave the next big-flavored dish. Then, when the potato crusted Sea Bass was as tasteless, I felt that the prime rib has to be amazing. It wasnt. The food was an expensive disappointment. more
