wonderful! 7/12/2007

I am a native new yorker and have been to many of the fine dining restaurants in the city, and Daniel lives up to its reputation. It took about 15 minutes for us to be seated, but we had a delicious drink at the bar. the service was impeccable, and after being asked if we were there for a special occassion, we received an extra special dessert to go along with it. The food was delicious, as is to be expected. I had the fois gras appetizer and sea bass entree. The dessert was heavenly. trays and trays full of extra sweets, my favorite being the madeleines. Overall, a wonderful restaurant, ambiance, service, and food. A great place for something romantic and special. more

The Best 7/2/2007

Without question the best restaurant in New York and trust me I've eaten at all of them. The food is amazing, the service flawless, and the check is hefty, but not entirely unreasonable. If you had to pick one place to eat in the city, this is it. I have also worked with the event staff on three private parties, and they are very professional. Pros: Fantastic in Every Regard Cons: Not Cheap more

Are the cameras really watching? 6/16/2007

I read somewhere that when you dine at Daniel, the reason the staff can almost anticipate your every need is that they have cameras in the ceiling so that the staff can always see you. I spent a lot of time looking for the cameras on Friday evening (6/15/07) but didn't see any surveillance equipment. I did however think the interior of the was one of the most beautiful I had ever seen. Daniel was one of the remaining places on my list of top NYC restaurants and I have to say it did not disappoint. My full review is at eveningrepast.blogspot.dotcom The tasting menu with wine pairings is the way to go in order to appreciate the full range of talents the cooking staff and service staff have to offer. Foie gras, seafood, duck, pasta, lamb, beef - it is all here in the highest forms possible. Flavors are all excellent and well presented. Overall, Daniel is a fantastic place. I highly recommend Daniel for the impeccable food, service and decor. Pros: Top notch food, beautiful decor and impeccable service Cons: I wish it wasn't so expensive or that I could afford to go more often more

Wonderful beyond expectations... 5/30/2007

Service is impeccable, food was wonderful, ambiance fun to watch. It was like a dream. If you're looking for the VIP treatment, this is the place to go. And even though it is higher end, it is quite reasonable. Pros: Staff, food, wine, ambiance, decor Cons: ? more

A Once in a Lifetime Experience 5/5/2007

We were very impressed with our dining experience at Daniel! From the moment we walked in the door until we left the restaurant, everything was perfect. From the details like the beautiful china and flowers to the garnishing on our meals, nothing was forgotten or neglected. We really enjoyed our delicious meal and the wonderful service we received. more

What a treat! 3/1/2007

Although my experience at Nellos (see other review) had embittered me to restaurants in this neighborhood, I still decided to venture to Daniel for a special occasion with my fiance. I'm very glad I did. From the moment we walked in the door, we experienced friendly, professional and prompt service throughout the evening. The staff was knowledgable and had a nice ability to be there when you needed them at a moments notice but be unobstrusive. My fiance and I each got the $96 pre fix. Everything we ordered was delicious, but what really pleased and surprised us was multiple on the house treats at different times of the meal. These were not the typical 3 oz odd tasting concoction in a mini shot glass, but reazonably sized and tasty compliments to the meal. Although it is expensive dinner, Daniel earns it with superlative food and exemplary service. I actually tipped 25% on top of an already healthy bill I was so pleased. Keep this place is your back pocket for a special occasion, it will certainly deliver. more

Believe the hype 2/10/2007

My wife and I went to Daniel last night - Feb 10. It was fantastic. We had the 6 course seasonal tasting menu with paired wines. We were greeted and seated immediately. The room was stunning and the service was incredible. It was expensive but not overly so for a 5-star french restaurant. For special occasions or frankly - any other reason - I would recommend this restaurant. Truly old world in the best sense of the term. It's not flashy like Per Se, but rather subtle, graceful, and warm. Pros: Ambience, service, creative cuisine Cons: A bit pricey -- but you get your money's worth. Tough to get reservation. more

Excellent atmosphere & service, and food 1/28/2007

Being from NC, this was my very first experience in fine dining in NYC @ Daniel. I e-mailed to inquire about taking photos of the restaurant. I wanted to capture all I could in pictures. They were glad to accomodate, & sent me their own photos. Thinking I'd given enough time, I took the subway & partially walked to the restaurant. Pros: For my first NYC French restaurant experience, simply awesome Cons: As with all upscale NYC restaurants, including French; expensive -my tab single guy $126) more

A Bit Over the Top? 1/13/2007

Didn't know what to expect after hearing such extraordinarily fantastic things about this restaurant. After checking our coats I almost laughed out loud but controlled myself when we were being taken to our table and we passed a table with Daniels' cookbooks lain out on a table for all to see . Is he kidding? Is this a restaurant or a showcase for his wares? Does he have a cutlery line as well? The room was round with two tiers, decorated over the top and a bit ostentatiously. To each his own. The service and food were perfect. If you're into all that other 'stuff' go for it. Pros: food service more

A Perfect Meal 12/28/2006

This is the way a perfect meal and service should be. Even though it is pricey it is worth every penny. Flawless service and delicious food in a palace setting. fron the second you walk in to the exit you are treated like royalty. more

Good service. Average food. Misses it's mark. 12/14/2006

Very nice room. The staff tries to give ""fine dining"" service but, alas, the timing was off and the staff was too busy working the large parties to give our $580 deuce any special attention--certainly not $600 worth. The bottom line is that this is an anniversary and birthday celebration machine so, if you want to do some truly fine dining, go elsewhere (The Inn at Little Washington-- outside Washington D.C. or Le Nomade--Chicago are two favorites). Pros: Pretty room. Pretty staff. Cons: Way too geared to the birthday, Anniversary crowd. Needs to concentrate on the food more. more

the room makes you feel like you are in a french palace 11/17/2006

Danies food is simply amazing, the service i must admit was horrible the only time we were there. The captain must have taken at least 20 minutes before he came to our table. I must admit the restaurant was packed but the service was nonexistant at best. I was totally disspointed with it. Its a shame the food is so good, as the service should be the same, especially for a 4 star restaurant. Pros: great dining in a great setting Cons: the service is horrible if they are busy, or at least if you are a nobody more
