Editorial review from Citysearch 3/25/2014

I have to agree with other reviewers in saying that DTN management is dishonest and corrupt. I lived in two different DTN apartments in East Lansing for one year each and had no major problems while living there. However, when I moved from the first apartment to the second, there was a charge for carpet replacement. I questioned it, because the carpet had not been damaged, and was told that it was an error and not to worry about it. I then lived in the second DTN managed apartment for an entire year and was never contacted, billed, or otherwise notified in any way that the balance remained. Instead, 2 years after the fact, I was contacted by a debt collection agency and forced to pay the balance which I had never been informed of. I am writing this review hoping that anyone seeing it will decide not to do business with DTN, because although their apartments are just fine, doing so will open you to the liability of their dishonest extortion. more

Sure, DTN has some appealing apartments that can be found at a reasonable cost, but think about it. How do they keep those apartments so cute and new and keep rent so reasonable?\r Fees!! Yay fees! Yay for two different late charges! Hooray for dragging you through the wringer after you move out! \r I moved out 7/21/13. I am STILL dealing with a ""young"" lady by the name of Debbie at corporate. Trying to figure out why we were charged $460 in damages after our move out. Is she cooperative? NOPE! Is she helpful? NOPE! Is she kind in the least? NOPE! \r She had the audacity to tell me that she would ""help"" me out and remove the $60 off of our account(that pushed over the security deposit) as long as I didn't go back to my former complex and discuss the issues with the local management. When I asked why I couldn't go and view the documentation of the damage after she removed the $60, she told me she was taking her offer off the table and it was no longer valid. \r I'm beyond sick of this company. \r What a joke. \r You may have been ""doing this since you were 18,"" Debbie, but you probably should have just married rich and stayed at home with your kids because you have the personality of a wet diaper. more

Quit Whining. Just File a Complaint 11/15/2011

I see a lot of complaints about DTN. I just rented this year and so far so good. I do have one minor issue I am working with them on. But if you feel strongly enough about an issue with them and they are unresponsive, file a complaint with the City of E Lansing Code Enforcement Dept AND definitely file a complaint with the MI State Atty General's Office. Everything is online. No excuses. That's what I'll be doing if they play hardball with me. more

THE WORST EXPERIENCE EVER!!!! 12/17/2010

This rental management company is horrible, shady, and corrupt. Trust me, don't make the same mistake I made by renting an apartment. RUN!!!!!!!!!! more

Worst... management... company... EVER! 11/25/2008

The staff lied to me about property policies which directly lead to me losing $500+. Of course, I called them about this and they continued to give me misinformation and outright lie. This happened from the site staff (manager included) all the way up to the Area Director who fabricated some policy right on the spot and became very rude and practically hung up on me. She didn't even know what was printed in the handbook they give each and every resident. \r \r DTN knows that since they mainly rent to college students they can get away with giving poor customer service. What college student has the time to go after a company like DTN?\r \r For these reasons I created a website called DTuNMgt and have found quite a few people unhappy with DTN along the way. Just Google DTuNMgt to find the site (I can't post URLs here). I hope it helps someone out there before they make a horrible decision. Pros: I haven't been murdered.... yet Cons: Overpriced, Incompetent Staff, Incomplete or unfinished maintenance, Poor service all around. Poorly lit parking lots and hallways more

DTN management does it again... Another unsatisfied resident!!! 3/10/2008

Ive lived at Charter Oaks Apt.s for a year , the apartment itself is decent sized. It is run by DTN management and to agree with the other reviews, the management is no good. My boyfriend and I Worked at the same place and were layed off at the same time. You would think that since this is Michigan and the economy is so bad that DTN and the people who make it up would be more understanding. They arent ,they simply dont care what kind of situation you are in. We have paid about $2000.00 on top of our rent because we were late and now that our lease is almost up theyre evicting us. We have paid & paid, we have seen so many neighbors come and go, all of them evicted. I wouldnt reccomend DTN or Charter Oaks. Pros: Close to work Cons: Expenive. Uncaring staff. $125.00 late fee/ month. more

Not Great 10/5/2007

I started living in Mason Hills Apartments (Managed by DTN) in July of 2006, my lease ended July 31, 2007. The apartment was fine, a bit smaller than I would have liked but it was fine. No real dmanages or anything that wasn't fixed promptly. But, the management themselves are not tenant friendly. They are completely rude and have no consideration for anyone. I was a few months late on my rent later on in my lease but, I would pay it and I would also pay the late fee. Unknown to me, there were two seperate late fees. So, I ended up being late on rent SEVERAL times because I wasn't paying the full amount they believed I owed. I ended up paying almost two months worth the rent in June just to finish my lease out and leave in July. Wehn i moved out at the end of July, I was unable to pay the last months rent and I got a bill from them stating that I owed a lot of money. It still isn't taken care of...all they want from people is money. They don't care how your stay in there apartment is as long as they are making there dollar. And they will try to get every last penny you ever had out of you anyway they possibly can...I can't stand the place. Pros: Location, not far from Lansing, Okemos, or Jackson Cons: Very bad management group... more

Half of my building has been evicted in the last six months 7/27/2007

My husband and I moved into one of DTN's complexes last year. When our son was born I had to take time off work. We were consequently late on our rent in January of 2007. We were told that we would have until the 18th to pay or we would be taken to court. My husband dropped off our rent ten minutes after their office opened on the 18th. Five minutes after their office opened they filed court papers against us. That tacked on another $300. This caused us to be late the next month and the next month and the month after that. We have been to court with them 4 times in 6 months. We also cannot give our rent to our resident manager. We have to either mail it or drive it to their offices in lansing. After our last court date we decided to borrow some money and pay off our lease. Then we got another notice to quit claiming that we owed them almost $1000. Explain that. Pros: I got along with my neighbors Cons: the building I lived in was water damaged and had mold growing from the walls more
