Best

I've gone to this restaurant once or twice a year since it opened and always wonder why I don't go more. It can be a bit cozy in there, but you never mind once you get your food....

Tiny portions for the price 2/23/2010

I went with my girlfriend on a Monday night and ordered miso soup, 2 rolls, and some sushi/sashimi. The service was prompt, but the restuarant only had one group there that night. The rolls are very tiny and even though we had 1 roll with tuna and another with eel, they tasted almost the same. We did not feel that we had our $10 worth in the rolls; it felt more like an appetizer than an entree. There are a lot of better japanese places in nearby East Village that charge the same prices and provide better portions, such as Nori. Pros: Decent, but fresh, rolls, sushi, and sashimi. Cons: For a $10 roll, it sure left me desiring more. more

Horribly rude service!!! 3/8/2009

I went to Cube 63 with some friends this past Saturday night for a casual birthday dinner. I called the restaurant to tell them that my group was running late due to traffic and that's when they FIRST informed me that there was a 1.5 hour time limit on the table, from the time of the reservation, regardless of when our party arrived. The lady was EXTREMELY rude and repeatedly asked if we were going to show up or not, clearly because she wanted to give our tables away. When I arrived at the restaurant only a few minutes after the reservation time, she rudely asked AGAIN if the rest of my friends were definitely going to show up. Furthermore, she couldn't seem to understand English or something, because she was confused when I told her that they need to tell people about the time limit on the table WHEN THEY ARE MAKING THE RESERVATION, NOT WHEN THEY SHOW UP! Then they gave us a 4 person table for 6 people, it was ridiculously small and uncomfortable! They also rushed us during the meal and especially towards the end of the time limit. The sushi is good, but the rolls are tiny, and its not worth the harassment. AVOID THIS PLACE!!!!!!! Pros: fresh fish Cons: service, small rolls, tiny restaurant more

Great sushi 7/23/2008

I've gone to this restaurant once or twice a year since it opened and always wonder why I don't go more. It can be a bit cozy in there, but you never mind once you get your food. This is by far the best value for sushi I've found in NYC. Bond Street may be better, but other than that I can't really say anyone else provides a superior sushi meal. Pros: Great Sushi!!! Cons: A bit tight and need a reservation more

rude service 7/16/2008

I could not believe the staff at this place. Immediately upon arriving we were told we had a time limit on our reservation and would have to leave in an hour and a half. This place is BYOB and should be a great place to relax with your friends and couple bottles of wine. Instead we were rushed through dinner and dessert and then told outright we had to leave. When we asked if we could finish our bottle of wine, the staff verbally attacked us. I will never return to this place and would urge no one else to go. There are far better BYOB sushi places with much nicer staff. Pros: decent sushi Cons: rude staff, very crowded more

HORRIBLE SERVICE, MEDIOCRE SUSHU 5/3/2008

I was looking for to this place. The service was inattentive and actually downright rude. The sushi was average at best but not bad. The space is cool and the neighborhood great. We were asked to leave immediately upon paying the check, which was very disturbing. There are plenty of other places to grab great sushi with good service and not be rushed. Go to those. more

delicious sashimi, yummy noodles 4/24/2008

Mmmm tasty! Good priced, good tasting sushi. Like most people have said, their sashimi plate is good. I really like their noodle dishes; the peanut noodles are good and theres a few spicy seafood ones, but I dont remember which one i like better. Of the other dishes I've tried most of them were tasty. Pros: Sashimi more

byob woohoo 1/18/2008

I need my sushi fix about once or twice a week so i went to this restaurant after reading some good reviews. I must say that this place is extremely overrated. The sushi is average...we ordered a few different special rolls and they all tasted the same. Place lacks any ambiance and is a bit run down (and not in the cool trendy way). Service was extremely slow. We got our rolls 45 minutes after out appetizers. There are far better sushi joints than this one so keep looking... more

fantastic 8/12/2007

best sushi in the city super fast and very friendly service! ambiance is great, prices are great to. You cant beat this place. Pros: sushi, service, price, location Cons: its getting hard to get a reservation! more

Favorite Sushi Place in LES! 7/31/2007

I LOVE this place! I am completely addicted to their salmon tartare and Volcano Roll! It's a tiny place that gets pretty loud, but the food is worth it! I almost wish the owners would consider expanding their space. Definitely remember to make reservations and bring a bottle of wine/ sake! Pros: Fresh Delicious Sushi!! BYOB Cons: Small, Loud more

Great Sushi, but kinda small 7/16/2007

My girlfriend and I went there on a Friday night. The sushi was fantastic; very creative rolls and all the fish was fresh and tasty. The service was good enough; a little slow, but we were in no rush to leave anyway. The only drawback being it is a little small and you're sort of sitting on top of the tables next to you. But all in all, a nice experience. Pros: Great food Cons: A little small for the crowds more

Great time 7/16/2007

My friends and I went for my Birthday and had a blast. We brought our own alcohol and ordered some deelish sushi. The only bad part is that it's a very small place so you have to make reservations and be on time. But it's really worth it! Pros: Food, BYOB Cons: Very small more

I ordered delivery...Not that good 5/10/2007

I found this place on City Search so me and friends ordered delivery. The rolls were small, overpriced. and nothing special. Prices were higher than the menu online Food is ok but basically wasn't impressed. more

SO LOUD!!!! AVERAGE FOOD 4/30/2007

I had heard a lot of hype about Cube 63, so I was excited to eat there. However, I found the experience lacking overall. It was SO LOUD that I was screaming and could hardly hear my friend across the table. It was disgustingly annoying. Next, being that it is BYOB, we brought our own bottle of white wine. However, they would not offer an ice bucket, and our wine was warm by the end of dinner. Thus, if you are bringing your own alcohol, bring something that doesn't need to be served cold. Next, the waitress was EXTREMELY unfriendly and did not smile once. Even she seemed annoyed at the noise of the place and got testy that she could not hear us. We ordered the omakase, and I found the food ""eh"". The cooked food is below average. The raw food was average, but nothing mind blowing. I would rate this place average at best for food and horrible for ambience/service. It definitely does not live up to the hype. Pros: Nothing Cons: Obnoxiously loud, just ok food more

Best sushi rolls in NY! 4/22/2007

I am not a huge fan of Sushi, but when I tried the rolls at Cube 63 for the first time, I was hooked! The sushi rolls are the best I have EVER had! The volcano roll gives me chills every time I eat it. It is the perfect combination of food. The spicy tuna is also amazing, along with most of their rolls. I wouldn't try the CA roll...a little boring. It is a great place for big parties because it is BYOB. It does get loud on the weekends or late weekdays. Make reservations unless you go very early! If you are looking for good food but a quiet place, try the one in Brooklyn. Pros: Amazing sushi rolls! Cons: Loud and crowded more

Great specialty rolls 3/24/2007

Cube 63 offers great specialty rolls. But be warned, they're small rolls (and for $10 a roll, I'd expect more), and the portions for sashimi are half the size of what you'd normally get elsewhere. I would come back here, but after the winter (wouldn't want to haul my bulky puffer coat in here). Bring as less ""baggage"" as possible, as the space is tiny! Fortunately, they take reservations. Pros: The rolls Cons: The small space more

Best Damn Sushi, PERIOD! 3/21/2007

I have been to Cube 63 twice now and when I'm not there I'm thinking about going there. The rolls are SUPERB and INNOVATIVE (those who say otherwise must be eating somewhere else). From the Pink Lady to my absolute favorite, the Volcano roll, this place is bound to please and keep you coming back for more. Even the standard stuff like the Spider, Dragon, and Rainbow rolls are top notch. Another must is the Melon Shrimp appetizer.... do not pass it up. And to top it all off... IT'S BYOB and there is a deli across the street that sells cold beer (even Sapporo). On the downside, the place is tiny... probably NOT the best place for a birthday party of 10. Reservations are a must in my opinion. Also, don't be offended if you try to push back the reservation on the night of your visit and then get some static from the hostess (especially if you have a large group of people)... the place is tiny and constantly busy! Bottom line: Best Damn Sushi this side of the Pacific! I love this place and I'll be there tonight! Pros: The food, the BYOB, the prices Cons: The space is small, but the food FAR outweighs any cons. more
