Best

I've gone to this restaurant once or twice a year since it opened and always wonder why I don't go more. It can be a bit cozy in there, but you never mind once you get your food....

Worst

I went to Cube 63 with some friends this past Saturday night for a casual birthday dinner. I called the restaurant to tell them that my group was running late due to traffic and t...

Great sushi 3/5/2007

My boyfriend and I ate here for the first time before a show so we arrived very early. Service was good and fast (because there were very few people there so early??). The Clinton roll was excellent (tuna was fresh and delicious). Menu is affordable and we really enjoyed the fact that it was BYOB. I can't wait to go back! Pros: Great sushi, BYOB Cons: small space (arrive early or make reservations??) more

Good food but bad staff ruined it. 2/19/2007

The food was good but extremely slow service. The restaurant is tiny but they still need more than 2 unfriendly waitresses to work it. Our waitress came to our table once on her own, the other two times we had to flag her down repeatedly. We left a 15% tip out of habit because there was absolutely nothing exceptional about her service. The waitress had the nerve to tell us the tip wasn't enough. Had it been my call, I would have taken the entire tip back but my friend is much nicer than I am. Everyone who worked there seemed miserable and there are enough sushi restaurants in NYC to be picky when it comes to choosing a restaurant. I won't be going back there. Pros: good sushi Cons: poor, rude service, music was circa 1998 more

Best sushi in NY. 2/2/2007

This is my favorite restaurant in the city. Its the size of a shoebox, so you definitely need reservations, but the sushi is amazing. The Volcano roll is the best. Since this place is BYOB, the staff gets antsy for you to leave once you are finished eating and are just sipping on cocktails, so eat slowly to avoid the glares. This place is not good for large groups since its so small and the music is loud, but its perfect for four people are less. Unbelievable sushi. Pros: BYOB, Great sushi Cons: Unfriendly waitresses, tiny space more

Very Good, not great 1/15/2007

The fish was fresh, the place is pleasant in general but there was nothing innovative, nothing very impressive about the sushi or the rolls. No sauces/additional flourish to finish the sushi pieces so they looked and tasted very plain. The rolls were dry and uninspired except for the Carribean Roll & the Pink Lady which we did think were exceptional. My search for great sushi continues. Maybe we should have tried Ki on Smith St or Blue Ribbon in the Slope. Pros: It's a nice space Cons: Nothing innovative or original more

Unique sushi with the perk of BYOB 11/12/2006

The store front may make you wonder what you're getting into but once your wine has been opened and you're digging into your appetizer, you forget where you are. The unigue rolls may be up there in price, but they're worth it AND you don't have to pay restaurant prices for your booze. You don't need reservations before 7, but it gets packed after that. It also has a tendency to get noisy and crowded if you go late. Pros: Unigue sushi rolls, BYOB Cons: Can get crowded and loud more

Best sushi in the Northeast 9/6/2006

Absolutely fantastic sushi. Living in Bucks County, PA, my husband and I have the luxury to travel to all the great cities and areas in the Northeast. Philadelphia, DC, NYC, Baltimore, New Jersey (yes they do have some great restaurants in Jersey) Cubes 63 shines above all. Don't listen to any negative reviews. We have been to this restaurant a dozen times. The sushi is unbelievable, and the staff is professional, proficient and accomodating. Not as fancy as Nobu or Morimoto, but just as delicious. Pros: THE BEST SUSHI IN NYC Cons: Out of the way more

Absolutely the WORST customer service EVER. 8/30/2006

I am appauled. My roommate booked this restaurant 3 weeks in advance for a 7:00 reservation with a group of 10 people on a Wednesday night. We called on the night of the reservation to see if we could possibly move it back 30 minutes to allow for late guests. The woman on the phone proceeded to tell us that we *could* come late, but would be asked to leave at 8:30 due to the table being taken by another group. My roommate was not explained this policy when she made the reservation- the woman said, ""Well, I mean, it's just... common knowledge that you only need the table for an hour and a half."" I beg your pardon? She told us that she would ask our table to leave at 8:30, even if we weren't done eating. And THEN she had the audacity to say: ""Well, you know there's a $30 minimum per person with a group of 7 or larger, right?"" My roommate was NEVER told this when she made the reservation. How can EACH PERSON spend $30 when it's BYOB?? I asked to speak to a manager. She said, ""Well there isn't a manager... it's just... you know..."" Absolutely terrible. This was the worst customer service I've ever experienced. I am telling everyone I know never to go to this restaurant and I will keep posting this so everyone can see how rude and un-accomodating these people were. Pros: None. Cons: Terrible customer service; ignorant, un-accomodating, far from helpful- refused to mention group policies and seating time allotments. more

WHAT A DISASTER! AVOID!! 8/30/2006

I'm not one to do this...in fact, I've NEVER done this before. My 25th Bday was nearly ruined by this restaurant. First off, I booked a table reservation THREE weeks in advance...they told me I could only have a max of ten people and that the only times available were either 7pm or 10 pm...I said, OKAY, I booked the 7pm. Yesterday the day of BDAY, an hour before the dinner, I call the restaurant to tell them we are running about 30 minutes behind...they THEN tell me on the phone that my party of 10 has to be OUT of the restaurant at 8:30pm sharp...no matter what...thats their policy and they NEVER told me! After being resonable and keeping my cool, I asked to speak with a manager, there isn't one. THEN the rude woman tells me there is also a $30 mininum plate charge PER PERSON!! THEY never told me that either! Now, this is a BYOB & dessert place...so $30 dollars worth of food per person...is ridiculous!! She did absolutely nothing to try and work with us. Needless to say I had to call my whole party and find somewhere else to go within an hour. This caused me soo much frustration, I can't even begin to explain; on my bday...60 minutes before dinner! SO, my advice, is don't waste your time, we were treated horribly. more

Excellent quality and value, one of our favorite sushi places 7/11/2006

Although very small and sometimes hard to get a reservation for, it is well worth the effort as the sushi is excellent with great variety and it's BYOB - so you won't break your wallet. Pros: variety, BYOB Cons: very few tables, must have reservations more

bad service 7/9/2006

bad service. decent sushi. do not go with a large group (even if you have a reservation they made us wait for over an hour). more

Small, but great sushi! 7/6/2006

On a mission to scope out the better sushi places in NYC, we came across Cube 63 and absolutely loved it! Due to the limited seating, the restaurant was very crowded but we were lucky to find a place at the sushi bar. Sushi was well prepared and the presentation was great. A bit off the beaten path, but a great place if you are looking for BYOB and tasty sushi! Pros: Freshness, BYOB Cons: Location more

good sushi, ambience a little young/loud 7/1/2006

The food is indeed quite good. However, the music was too loud, and the space cramped. The price is decent, although you don't get a lot for the omakase. The BYOB indeed helps with the bill at the end of the night. more

Awesome BYO Sushi Place! 6/25/2006

I love this place. I love the sushi. The Chefs are great. It's BYOB! You can't argue for more. I once lived above this place and ate there at least once a week. I always sit at the bar and the chefs would sometimes create certain dishes, rolls, or sushi that isn't on the menu. The fish is quite fresh and the ambiance is nice, although the place is a little small. I heard they just opened another place in Brooklyn though that's bigger. I would highly recommend this place although reservations are a must. Pros: Great Sushi, Awesome Service, Cheap Prices Cons: Cramped Quarters more

Ben, Ken and Wing know what they are doing 5/25/2006

This is my favorite restaurant to take people to in the city. Perfect to go with one friend, a bottle of wine and saki and saddle up to the bar. The sushi chefs Ben, Ken, and Wing are so much fun. I can't understand a word they are saying but they make the best Volcano Roll I have ever had. Its put in the toaster and literally melts in your mouth. Its BYOB, bring a big bottle of something and share it with the guys, they appreciate it and they will remember you when you come back. All my out of town friends that I have taken are obsessed and won't stop harassing me about how nothing they have had since even compares to that Volcano Roll. Get reservations b/c the place is tiny and the bar only seats 4 people. Pros: byob, creative rolls, service Cons: really small more

cozy place with yummy sushi 3/23/2006

I went here last month with a few friends and had a great experience. It's BYOB which is nice. The place is TINY and reservations are key. Good place to stop at before hitting the bars in the LES. I highly recommend the Volcano Roll, it's probably the best tasting sushi I've ever had!! Pros: Affordable sushi, BYOB, Volcano Roll Cons: Small, need reservations more

Don't forget to BYOB 2/27/2006

This place is great. Nice staff. Great, fresh food. Good prices. Liquor store down the block. What more could you ask for? Decor is a bit bland - but that might be the point. Pros: BYOB, Fresh Cons: Tiny - can get loud more

The Best Sushi in NYC 1/5/2006

I have been to Cube 63 on several occasions and have never been disappointed. The sushi is always fresh and without a doubt the best in the city. The Volcano Roll is to die for! You get such a bang for your buck here. Sushi for two won't cost you more than $70, and you will be stuffed by the end of your meal. The music and ambience are great. I will return in the very near future. Pros: Fresh sushi, Value, Great Vibe Cons: None! more

I love this place! I am a newbie to the whole Sushi scene. I am the wimpy 'cooked only' type of gal, however, I have broaden my horizons thanks to this place. The Volcano Roll is wonderful as well as my favorit ""The Pink Lady"". I am always nervous recomending places to my hard to please foodie friends but everytimg I take someone new to this place they RAVE! It can be a little loud, decor is majorly lacking and chairs are metal and freezing during the winter, but who cares? The food is what brings me back not the scuffed up white walls! Pros: Food, Price, Service Cons: Decor, Loud more

Best Spicy Tuna Ever! 10/21/2005

My dining companion and I brought a bottle of wine and they immediately opened it for us. All of the specialty rolls sounded heavenly but we went for the Clinton roll. It was delicious but it was nothing compared to the spicy tuna roll (which cost half as much!). Next time (and there definitely will be many more next times), we will get the volcano roll. We also had the eel and avocado and the yellowtail/green onion. Both were very good. more

If you go here, sit at the bar. The two brothers that make the sushi are hilarious, and get drunker and drunker as the evening wears on. If you BYO, make sure you share. The food is merely good, but the experience makes Cube 63 worth the visit. Pros: Sushi guys, BYO Cons: Small, Crowded, Decor more
