Leave full and happy 3/7/2011

This is one of my favorite restaurants of all time.  Taking into account each aspect of a restaurant, it's not the best, but it puts everything together.  Any time I'm remotely in the area I go - I have driven 2 hours out of my way to eat here. First of all, it's a fun place.  Alligators, birds, goofy gift shops - fun.  The special hand scrub at the sinks to clean up - different and cool.  The staff - really nice.  Roaming pet cats - cute.  Sure it's a little tacky, but it's all about expectations.  The food is awesome.  No fried seafood here - it's mostly low country boil and I get the sampler for one and it feeds two of us.  Unexpectedly enough, the kielbasa here is awesome. Get the key lime pie for dessert - love it.  I always have a good time and leave full and happy. more

Great food 3/1/2011

The best shrimp I have had in tybee! And the kids love watching the alligators. more

I will definetly come back 2/22/2011

We checked out of our hotel and had time to get one last good meal before heading back to California. The crab shack is the opposite direction of the airport and is off the beaten path in Tybee Island!  I saw this on Yelp and figured it was a tourist trap with mediocre food. I couldn't have been more wrong! Don't let the alligator pits and cats running everywhere fool you, come here for the seafood. I ordered the Captains Crabs sampler seafood platter for one - Stone crab, blue crab, snow crab, peel and eat shrimp, crawfish, mussels, potatoes and corn came out piled on a large platter tray. All the seafood was so fresh and sweet tasting delish, even the white corn was tasty. Our server Morgan was such a sweet southern gal. I've heard about the southern hospitality and I experienced it everywhere in Savannah GA. I will definetly come back here when I return to Savannah. more

Loved the crab legs 2/9/2011

Short review, loved the crab legs, found a friendly cat to share our meal, just a very cool rustic outdoor spot (with a alligator display) to enjoy seafood. more

Atmosphere is really fun 2/3/2011

Awesome!  One of the highlights of our trip to Savannah!  We ordered the Sampler platter for the 3 of us, and there was enough food left over for another person, and we were stuffed.  The platter came out piled high with crab legs, stone crab claws, crawfish, mussels, shrimp, corn, smoked sausage and potatoes.  I really wanted to get a low country boil while on this trip, and we definitely came to the right place.  I may dream about this meal, it was so yummy. The food was so delicious, and what a fun experience!  You will get messy, but that's part of the fun.  And the atmosphere is really fun, too.  Loved the lighting and the trees growing right up through the dining room, the well fed cats roaming around outside.  We wandered around during the 30 minute wait for a table and looked at the boats, the alligators, the parrots, the gift shop, took pics with the various kitschy things, such as a turtle dressed as Captain Jack Sparrow.  Yes, it is touristy, but every now and then you find a touristy place that really justifies the crowd, and this is it.  NOT to be missed! more

Fun atmosphere 1/31/2011

Best seafood I had while in Savannah! The atmosphere is fun and the alligators are so cool to look at and feed! Lots of cats run around but we didn't have any problems with them! Will come back again! more

Great! 1/26/2011

We went here based on the reviews and were not disappointed. I ordered the seafood sampler, for one, and it could have fed 3 adults! The food was excellent and the waitress was extremely helpful showing us how to eat the seafood that we weren't familar with. Our kids loved the animals and the whole setting was great! more

as good as it gets 1/20/2011

We were looking for some genuine area culture and seafood so decided to stop by The Crab Shack on our way back to Savannah from visiting the Tybee Lighthouse and beach. Atmosphere was unique, service was teriffic, and food was abundant and tasty. This was as good as it gets in our opinion. Can't wait until we can return. more

The Crab Shack 11/6/2006

On our first visit to Savannah, GA we attempted to go to a place called The Crab Shack. It was a few miles outside of Savannah, on Tybee Island. Let's just say it is an interesting place and when we pulled into the parking lot I wouldn't’t get out of the car and we didn't stay. A couple years later we were back in Savannah and the concierge recommended The Crab Shack. So, we decided to give it another try and we loved it! We were with another couple and decided to order the “Shack Specialty” which is a platter piled with an assortment of in season shellfish, sausage, corn and potatoes. Ours was loaded with crab, shrimp and crawfish. It was huge and cooked to perfection. It is a great place and lots of fun. http://www.thecrabshack.com/ more

The Crab Shack 7/11/2006

The Crab Shack located on Tybee Island is AMAZING! I recommend the "Sampler" for either one or two (although the two person one is big enough for you to split between 3-4 people depending on how much you really eat), I've been here a million times and it's the only thing I've ever gotten (and most people get) because it's so good. The atmosphere is great, I love eating outside on water or on the front patio by the alligators (yes, they have over 70 live alligators in their little lagoon! They're small though). The only complaint I have is all the dang stray cats running around everywhere which they can't really help because people keep feeding them and they're too nice to call the pound on them I suppose and the dang palmetto bugs but if you've lived in GA for longer than a day, you know they're a problem everywhere! If you have a problem with either of those though, you can eat inside and it takes care of both problems as you won't find either inside the restaurant and you can still see outside since it's all bamboo and screening. The food's great, the drinks are great and the prices aren't too bad, a little pricey but for seafood and especially of that calibur, The Crab Shack can't be beat! more

FUN FUN FUN (and the food's good too)! 3/28/2006

This restaurant is just plain fun! It's gaudy and kitschy and touristy but wonderful all at the same time. It's quite a drive from the part of Savannah most tourists are visiting so prepare. When you arrive, there are hundreds of alligators surrounding the restaurant. Don't worry. They're little and enclosed but you can pay to feed them which is fun. The restaurant itself is enormous and has indoor and outdoor seating. The outdoor has beautiful views out over the river. The food is delicious!! Their seasoning for the crab (which you can buy at the giftshop) is unbelievable! The platter of seafood comes with potaotes, corn, crab, shrimp, and sausage. Enough for a crowd. Your table will have a hole in the center and you just dump your trash into it and move on to your next trough (ie. plate). more

Horrible choice 12/2/2005

My husband found this place on the internet so we tried it when we drove to Savannah for the day. Boy, what a disappointment. All seafood is boiled almost. I did find crab cakes on the menu so we got that and they were not really good. They contained pieces of shell we had to keep spitting out! The table was not clean, nor were our chairs. It was noisy and people kept bumping our chair as they past because they were so busy. We ate inside because it was chilly, but even so, the crab cakes were cold in spots. I think they were fresh from the microwave since they were hot in others! The service was friendly, but it didn't make up for the bad food and even worse Margarita that had never seen a drop of fresh lime juice! We will not go back here ever. more
