Best

Dr. Hoppy is wonderful. He explained issues in terms I understand. He cares about my pet. Thank you for everything you have done for us.

Worst

I purchased $50.00 certificate from Friends of Animals. They still charged extra $150 on top of that. Don't know if this is a ripoff. Anybody have any idea?

Janice 7/10/2010

After reading all the reviews on CVC i was worried sick about going, CVC was recomended by a friend whom i trust so off my dog and I went, We had been to 3 other vets who could not figure out what was wrong with her skin.i drove over an hour to CVC. upon arriving i was taken back by its apparence. not your normal vet office, A full out hospital! I only waited 15 min to see Dr.Hopkins, with in sec he knew what was wrong with her, he gave her an exam that no others had given her. he was kind to my dog and I. His vet Tech was just as kind more

Fleecing Pet Owners in an Emergency 7/3/2010

It is truly unfortunate that it takes a pet emergency that preys on an owner's concern for their pet to bring out the very worst at this vet clinic. When my dog had a recent medical emergency, I went to this clinic first because it was the closest one to me and I honestly didn't know what was wrong and if my dog would survive. The vet on call said there could be only 2 possible things wrong with my dog and that they would need to operate that night. And the outcome for the dog was presented as not good without immediate surgery . Scare tactics to guarantee you'll sign up for whatever services they want to charge you, even without a definite diagnosis. I have since found out that the symtoms can monitor many more things than the vet even mentioned but the ones that were mentioned were high ticket items. Before I had ANY final diagnosis, (which I never received from them that night) I was asked to put down a $2,600 down payment. They start out high and if you push back at all, they come back with a lower figure and an attitude. They then proceed to add all the charges they can on to your credit card for close to the total of what they needed for a ""down payment."" I didn't want my dog left there overnight and miraculously she was able to travel to my regular vet without ""immediate surgery"" and no further problems that night. When I left, I still did not have a definite diagnosis of what was wrong with my dog and what the vet mentioned about it being only 2 possible things, was neither of them. Warning bell: : CT Vet Center's LOWEST cost estimate in the range they gave me for my pet's total care, was still hundreds of dollars HIGHER than the actual TOTAL my regular vet charged me where my dog had all of her major care for 3-4 days done. There are just too many complaints about this clinic and in addition to all of the quality of care concerns, they should be investigated for unfair and unprofessional business practices. Cons: Ridiculous fees, scare tactics, dirty facilities more

Don't bring your pet there 6/14/2010

I've had two experiences with this clinic. The first was when I brought my 12 1/2 year old shepard there at about 7 a.m. in the morning. I knew he was dying and did not want to wait until 8 a.m. when my vet would be open. We got there and they wanted $500.00 right up front just to look at him. We finally got to see a vet at 9 a.m. (I should have waited for my vet to open) When they saw he they told us he had cancer and they wanted to operate because ""he had a long life to live"". They just wanted the money. Our vet finally called and talked my husband into putting him to sleep. They just want the money they don't care about the pets.\r \r A few years later my neighbors dog got hit by a car. I went with them to the vet and they soaked them for $2,000.00 before telling them he should be put to sleep. \r \r This year my other dog died and I went to the Rocky Hill Emergency Vet at 4:00 Sunday morning. They were wonderful. When I walked in I handed them my credit card and they said ""We don't need it just yet"". SO IF YOU HAVE AN EMERGENCY GO TO THE EMERGENCY VET IN ROCKY HILL. THEY ARE WONDERFUL. SAID AWAY FROM THIS WEST HARTFORD EMERGENCY VET. Cons: Greedy, doesn't care about animals only money more

great patient care 11/12/2009

My dog was hit by a car right in front of my son, he ran out the front door when I was getting the mail, I was crying my son was hysterical, the car didn't stop- they took him right in and thanks to the immediate action on thier part, my dog made it. He was in shock and was in ICU for 3 days. They let me visit, my son too, and showed concern for us as well as my dog. Yes it was expensive, but to be open 24 hours a day unlike most clinics, I'm sure you have to charge more. Otherwise everyone would be open 24 hrs a day. I will always be gratefull. The nurses were great esp. Pros: my pet is alive today Cons: costly more

this establishment should have charges brought against them 8/24/2009

my neighbor had a one year old dog that he had just brought to this clinic for shots....less than SEVEN HOURS later he is pounding on my door begging me to help him get his dog in the car to take back to this clinic...the dog was shaking, obviously distressed and in great pain...he couldn't even stand. \r \r what occurred at the clinic was absolutely horrendous. they would not talk to him unless he agreed to pay them over 1200 with 900 UP FRONT...he kept trying to tell them they had administered the wrong medicine to his dog...this fell on deaf ears. he signed the paperwork and paid with his credit card...hoping his dog would be ok...the staff said they did nothing wrong...hours later, the dog died. they would not release nor take any responsibility for this dog...how is it that noone has filed any charges against this clinic? my heart goes out to this poor dog and his grieving owner. \r \r please do NOT take your pet to this place. Cons: everything more

dishonest 8/6/2009

You need to check your bill before you pay because I was charged for something I repeatedly did not want. One girl at the cash register looked inside the box to make sure that my dog has a year supply of interceptor medicine. Well, when she gave me the box it was only 6 months worth of medicine. She made sure that I got six months worth. She was uncomfortable when I confronted her. I will never go back again. more

Cannot Believe They are Still In Business 6/11/2009

I had to leave town and was concerned my elderly cat had reinjured a toe [nail was clicking on floor]. I wanted an expert eye to examine her toe. What I got instead stunned me. I got what looked like a highschool student who aimed a bright light into each of her eyes for 30-60 seconds !!! My poor cat looked at me in pain. I told the ""vet"" to stop and said, you are hurting her. She did not. An Assistant held her down. Then the worst of it came. One held her down on her side and pulled her leg up and out, and close to out of the socket !!! ""Stop you are hurting her"" as my poor kitty pitifully looked at me for help. Then they flipped her over and did the other hind leg. My cat has not walked right since. She limped for weeks and here it is a year later and she's not been able to jump up since that night. I should have decked both of them and refused to pay them. Only to be told at the end of this torture, that the toe was fine. [I'd give NO stars but system made me] Pros: 24 hr Cons: Absolutely No Quality of Care or Experience more

Only place to go with seriously ill animal 5/6/2009

Dr. Hopkinson saved out cat with hepatic lipadosis. (90% fatality rate) Dr. Hopkinson knew what was wrong the second he looked at the cat. Through his skill and excellent care the cat has recovered. His compassion and availability are beyond measure. He had us check with him daily (a few days more then once a day!) by telephone. Dr. Hopkinson saw the cat weekly for rechecks and follow up care. If any vet can save your beloved pet this man can. I have always had excellent care, and service from all members of his staff. His prices are no more expensive then any other vet. We wil be forever thankful to Dr. Hopkinson for saving our beloved Princess. Pros: Dr. Hopkinson more

Compassionate Emergency Care 2/16/2009

On Feb. 14 I brought my elderly cat for an emergency visit. As it turned out, she needed to be put to sleep. it was a busy afternoon at the Center but everyone from the technicians to the doctor (Dr. Jacquelyn Kubis) was polite, kind, and compassionate. Dr. Kubis delivered the bad news with grace and understanding. She had already sedated my cat for the examination and gave my son & me plenty of time to hold our dear kitty and say our goodbyes. I might add that the cost was in line with what my own vet has charged for similar service in the past. Each person has their own unique experience, of course, but if I had paid much attention to the scathingly negative reviews I might have gone to a different place and not been pleased at all. The drive to W. Hartford was convenient and I was satisfied with how my pet and my family were treated. I would not hesitate to recommend CT Veterinary Center for their emergency service. more
