Best

I went with my boyfriend and another couple - it was a great Friday night date night! They are very organized and efficient, even with a packed crowd. Some of the jokes were NOT ...

Worst

the feel of the comedy cellar is intimate and energized for comedians' acts, and the two-drink minimum is enforced like clockwork by everyone who works at the place. definitely be...

Hilarious, great food, a fun time 8/25/2008

I really like the Mediterranean fare they have here. It makes up for the lame cover charge. Keep your group small, it's very cramped. Pros: Hilarious, Politically Incorrect Cons: Cover Charge more

Bad Sense of Humor 8/20/2008

I went to this club with some friends. We didn't have any trouble getting in or getting seats like others. The acts were hilarious and we really enjoyed it. The PROBLEM is the man they had introducing the acts. He took it upon himself to make really brash and disgusting homophobic jokes to anyone walking out of the club and if anyone said "that's not funny" (which I did at one point very softly, but so did others), he'd berate them in an almost violent tone of voice like he was going to take you on as soon as you leave the club, watch your back! He was so rude to me that the comedian up next apologized for him. I live in the area this guy still works there. They need to get rid of him! Pros: Good comedy Cons: Very crowded, some rude staff more

Terrible Comedy Club 6/26/2008

Honestly, this is not worth it. The comics are overrated and the space is way too packed. The service is terrible. It takes over half an hour to get a drink and the waiters all have an attitude. Plus, you need to get there an hour early to get a decent seat. Definitely not recommended. more

Great Comedy! 5/19/2008

I go to the Comedy Cellar quite a bit and I've never had a bad experience. The shows are always great. I was there again last night and had a great time. Service was excellent, show great as always. Then we had an added bonus because Andrew Dice Clay came in. Everyone in our group of four had a great time. Drinks were great, too more

best comedians 5/19/2008

I love going to the comedy cellar. I have never had a bad experience at this place (although the seating is a little tight). Everytime I go the comedians are great!!! I have seen Seinfeld as in Jerry there and Chris Rock not to mention Ray Romano. Come on!!! Really you never know what amazing line-up they will have!!! more

comedians funny, staff disrespectful. 5/18/2008

i just wrote a review that took up all the available space, but no one would sit and read all of that ill just get to the point this time --Comedy cellar has good comedians, just as good as anywhere else --The Staff is the rudest ive ever seen my party of 8 ordered our first round of drinks 2 got up to use the bathroom i had an important phone call when we got back all our drinks where gone-- altho they wernt even touched --waiter told my cousins girlfriend to shutup altho she was softly whispering --when my friend asked about his missing drink they said they would have t cut him off because hes being erratic all in all the comedy celler is not worth the time the comedians are funny sometimes sometimes there not just like anywere else but each time i went me and my friend where disrespected by the staff all night, treating us like we where drunk loudmouths, meanwhile we just got out of work and were whispring amongst ourselves maybe the waiter should have found something else to do besides stand 1 foot from our table and he wouldnt have been annoyed by our talking because the comedian and other patrons had no idea we where talking i will never go back and if i do it will be to stand outside and warn people about to go in to waste money Pros: with so many other choices in the same area nothing stands out Cons: entire staff is ignorant, with the exclusion of maybe the door man more

Awesome Comedy Show! 3/31/2008

I have to say that I was on the floor Saturday night (3/29/08). The comedians were absolutely brilliant. My boyfriend and I were in the front row, he was the guy with the all blue Met outfit on! The places was comfortable, the food great and of course the laughs were plentiful. Keep up the great work!! Pros: The service and facilities were great. Cons: Bathroom was a wee bit too small. more

Great time....Great Food....Great Value 1/22/2008

I took my wife to NY for a surprise trip for her 40th BD. We wanted to go to a comedy club so after doing a lot of research on the internet we came up with Comedy Cellar. We made the right decision. There was a good variety in comedians. Some were very "Raw" and "Controversial" while others were a little more mainstream. It was a great balance in talent. The food was very good and the service was excellent considering the crowd. The inside was crowded but comfortable and it was an intimate setting. The club is very accessible as it is only 2 blocks away from the Subway. If you go, either plan to get there early or stay later and take a stroll down 6th Ave. and check out all the "Freaks". I love it! 1/3/2008

I have been to the Cellar 4 or 5 time over a 6 year period, recently during New Years weekend, and everytime I have gone, the experience has been better. All the comedians are good to great, many of which I have gone on to see on TV/Film/etc. Service has always been on par and I have never had an issue with any of the club staff. And on my latest trip, Dave Chapelle gave us a nice 15 minute set. I love this place and plan on going back each time I visit NY. Pros: Everything Cons: Cramped Seating...but you forget as soon as the show starts more

Reserve online for the 9 o'clock show and you'll have a great time. Read your bill carefully, though. 12/5/2007

The comics were of varying quality; the ones at the beginning and towards the end were dull. There were a few star performers, though, and if you reserve for the 9pm show (no cover charge if you do it online!), then you can stay for four hours while being forced to buy only two reasonably priced drinks! Read the entire bill when you get the check, though; I misread the, um, unconventionally written bill and the waiter thought I was trying to screw him - the way he turned belligerent was the sore point of the night. Pros: Free onine reservation, drinks not very expensive; long stays possible Cons: Bill is not entirely printed, and confusing as a result. You don't want to make the waiter mad. more

Excellent! 12/4/2007

My first time there was last night. The food was great, the comics were amazing!! We had an unbelieveable great time!! Also, the staff was probably the nicest bunch of people I've ever met! This is truly an unbiased opinion. I have nothing to do with the Comedy Cellar. I don't own it or work there. It's just a great place!! Cons: I live in CT...too far away. more

best comedy with surprise big name stars 11/27/2007

Well this was my first time but certainly not my last,i look forward to my next visit this was such a treat to me, the comedians were all very funny, but having Ray Romano as a suprise guest comedian was just the icing on the cake. I recomend the Comedy Celler to anyone who wants to experience good service and great comedy. Pros: two thumbs up Cons: door man more

Best Comedy Club in NYC!!! 11/14/2007

Visiting the Comedy Cellar was one of the highlights of our two week trip to NYC!!! Everyone was friendly and courteous from the door staff to the wait staff. The comedians were all top notch. All members of our party just had a blast. Thanks for such a great time!!! Pros: The comedians were great, super location, and the drinks were good Cons: Cannot think of any drawbacks more

Horrible door service 11/10/2007

The guy who works the door is rude and nasty. I asked him nicely if we could be put on the waiting list; he could have easily just said that we may not be able to get in but he obnoxiously and egotistically made faces and said "if you want to wait outside in the cold go ahead." Everyone in the line agreed that hes a "Jer&" and "jacka#$". This is a good place and I used to come here all the time because of the great celebrity cameos and funny comedians but who wants to come somewhere that you are about to spend some good money at, to be treated like garbage? Not I. Pros: Great comedians Cons: horrible door service more

Best Commedy Club in NY 10/26/2007

I have been going to the comedy cellar for the last 5 years or so. I love this place. The comedians are funny and if your lucky you'll see one of the famous guys there. I've found that the late weekday shows are best because you can see hours of comedy for a bargain. You need to check this place out. Pros: funny funny people Cons: doorman may be rude more

Great Comedy 10/22/2007

This is a great place to see good comics. The atmosphere was cozy, service was good, and the audience seemed to have a great time. My husband and I couldn't stop laughing and we were sad when the show ended. Yes, they have a 3 drink maximum but for an hour and 15 minute show how much liquor do you really need? We each had 2 pints and found that to be perfect. If 2 drinks aren't enough just predrink it's not that hard. Make sure you get there 15-30 min early to ensure your reservation is met. We got there 20 minutes early and had no problem, we even got a good table. I would definately recommend this place to anyone looking to see a good comedy show. Pros: Great Comics, Cozy Atmosphere Cons: None more

Best comedy in town!! 10/4/2007

My fiance and I went to The Comedy Cellar and we had a blast! The comedians were hilarious, the atmosphere was cozy and intimate, the food and drinks were great, and the prices are very reasonable, and there was only a 2 item minimum; the items didn't even have to be drinks. We had so much fun we made reservations to go again when we visit New York in a week. I would recommend The Comedy Cellar to everyone I know. If you're ever in New York definitely set aside an evening for a visit. Pros: Atmosphere, Comedians, Drinks, Service Cons: Parking more

RIP 9/26/2007

READER NOTE: ----- most comedy clubs have a 2 drink min., this place has a 3 DRINK MAX --- you are only allowed 3 drinks. I remember coming into this place, breathing in the clouds of second hand smoke and getting wasted on scotch while laughing my butt off at some good solid comics. My last time here (Sept 26, 2007) the late show did not draw an audiance so we were more or less treated to two shows --- approx 5 hours of comedy and only 3 drinks. Comics were ok --- I just felt sorry that most of the audiance was sober or leaving when the second wave of comics was coming on. This place needs to loosen up. Research some other alternatives as this place has become played out. Pros: best comedy environment in nyc Cons: its run the wrong way --- Collin Quinn ate his career more

What a show! 8/28/2007

I went to the Comedy Cellar last Tuesday night hoping for a good show, but it was beyond my expectations. First Ray Romano was announced and couple of comics later, Chris Rock. I couldn't believe my luck. I have heard that the big guys stop by at this club but I was never lucky to catch any of them. The shows that I have attended in the past have always been very very good but seeing big time comics like this is a cherry on the top. The whole experience made me a bigger Comedy Cellar fan than I was in the past. I highly recommend this place. Shows are always good. Food is exceptional and the service very courteous. Can't wait to go back again. Pros: Great Shows with big comics Cons: ?? more

Great comedy and good food 8/11/2007

My husband and I recently went to the Comedy Cellar to celebrate our anniversary. We had a ball! All of the comedians were great including the host who was just hysterical. I laughed so hard that my cheeks were hurting for hours. The comedy cellar is a must-go!!! We also ate at the Olive Tree Cafe upstairs, and their food was quite good. They have an Avacado Stuffer which is out of this world. I loved it!!! Pros: great service, atmosphere and comics Cons: must make a reservation, quite crowded more

  • Located in a basement beneath the Olive Tree Cafe, this popular club has hosted a lineup of performers ranging from William Shatner, Ice T and David Lee Roth to Colin Quinn, Greg Giraldo and Dave Attell. The tight quarters, college-age regulars and raucous atmosphere make for a quintessential NYC comedy experience--as does the high probability of unannounced drop-ins by the likes of Dave Chapelle and Robin Williams. A full bar offers beer, mixed drinks and specialty cocktails, while the menu from upstairs features burgers and wings, plus some vegan fare like a veggie kabob platter.
