My friend and I had a reservation Tuesday evening at Citrus. We were about half an hour late so we figured we might have to wait. As we enter the restaurant, it is empty except for a table of 4. Empty, this huge space with very bright lights on, the Chefs name written on every plate you see, chairs covered with mint colored shower curtain fabric. We are seated after we left our champagne at the door which we asked our server to bring. About 15 mins later (the bartender was busy text messaging) our server brought over the champagne ( a 1990 Ruinart), showed us the bottle, opened it, was not sure if he should pour mine first or not and didn't even let my friend have a taste. Mmm. We ordered the Lobster app and the crab app. The lobster concoction arrived in a ""caviar"" tin, that was on a plate with clear, glass stones all around it. The crab looked like a cheap open-faced sandwhich and the brioche it was served on was not good. My dish had Israeli couscous on the top cooked in squid ink but as soon as I stuck my fork into it, a flood of raw egg took over the entire dish. I took my time picking out the lobster pieces. Not attractive. Our entress were the monkfish and the duck. My fish came on a hot plate (they got that right), bottom right with a mountain of pine nuts cutting across the entire plate and a pile of under cooked asparagus in the top left corner. The duck was served with one breast sliced, another breast directly behind it whole, beet pieces underneath and some carrots and bok choy. The duck was way too chewy and not seasoned well, the monkfish tasted too strongly of cinnamon. Needless to say, the food here is amateur, the space beautiful but empty with cheap decorations distracting you from the potentially nice touches, valet $10, and the servers confused on who gets poured wine first. Don't waste your time or your money. My night was still good because my date was a blast and the 90 Ruinart...TO DIE FOR!!!
Pros: My date, the 1990 Ruinart
Cons: Service, lights too bright, food NOT GOOD, expensive valet!
