Red Curry with Chicken, awsome. It's a nice place during happy hours too 11/27/2007

I recently went there because I heard about their Happy Hour. I had some cocktails, some free food with my Red Curry with chicken dish. It is right of the main drag of North Beach's famous Broadway area. If you are in the mood for a new place for after work or Happy Hour. Try Citizen Thai. Pros: Great Place, good Thai Cons: Off the main drag of Columbus, Broadway area more

Inconsistent 11/15/2007

Sometimes this place is great, other times not good at all. The pepper garlic shrimp (served only in the Monkey Bar) two weeks ago was outstanding: flavorful, crispy, perfectly cooked and served with a large portion of broccoli. Last night the same dish has subdued flavors and the breaded topping was falling off the shrimp, as if cooked in oil of the wrong temperature or left sitting too long before serving. It was served on a bed of lettuce with no broccoli. Papaya salad was fresh but bland; this should be a spicy dish. The freshness of seafood can also be a problem, particularly on weekdays. It does have a nice atmosphere, and when the food is good it's worth the visit. Pros: Food can be great Cons: Food can be substandard more

great thai 6/30/2007

Great food in fun and cozy north beach. Always full and lively. The food is very good and the decor impressive. I love to come here with groups and the wait staff are very accomidating. I usually don't write reviews but I love food and friends and I had such a memorable dinner here. my out of town guests, who are hip and fun, and of course added to the majic of the evening, really enjoyed it too. more

Vary Happy Monkey! 11/5/2006

I have been here several times and have always left a happy monkey. Food is great and they aslo have nice cocktails. more

You can find better Thai food somewhere else 9/24/2006

Expensive prices for skimpy entree's. We ordered the prawns with aspargus and when the entree came, we discovered that there was only enough prawns for each of us to have one! 4 pieces of prawns in the entire entree! Nothing spectacular about the taste. I recommend going to other Thai restaurants for far better tasting food. Pros: Atmosphere is decent Cons: Skimpy entrees, Pricey, Average tasting food more

Yum 9/13/2006

Excellent food and atmosphere - only complaint is that we were immediately seated in the "Citizen Thai" section. I had assumed that you could order off of either menu, but it turns out that you need to sit in the bar area to order off of the "Monkey Noodle" menu. Not that big of a deal, but they should have asked us which restaurant we were there for before they sat us down. more

fun and fancy 9/4/2006

this is a very good place to come on a date or bring friends. It's a little more expensive than basic thai but the decor and atmosphere isn't your basic thai. Very pretty inside and the staff is great. Pros: atmosphere and yummy food Cons: a little pricey but not too bad more

Fun Place, great food 9/2/2006

I've wanted to come here for a while and finally did last night. There was a large group of us and reservations were not a problem. Our waitress was great and gave us tips on how to order (family style's best) and suggestions on sides that would accompany our appetizers and main courses. They had a great Thai Beer and everything we had tasted great! The restaurant is much larger than i'd expected, but the atmosphere is as good as the food. The prices aren't the cheapest for thai, but it's not too bad. Will definitely be returning. Pros: food, staff, decor more

Great Tasting Food... 9/2/2006

Before Last night I had never had Thai food. I am a fan of spicey food, and that is what i got with the Chicken Special. And I really Loved the Bag of Gold! I will definatly have them again. I went with a group of friends and the waitress did an excellent job of helping us with our dinner choices. The ambiance was wonderful. I Cant wait to go back and try some more of this food or maybe go back to try some dishes from the Monkey Bar! Pros: Great Service and Food more

Great Thai 7/16/2006

Citizen Thai is awesome. The menu is wonderfully varied, the atmosphere is very relaxed and the food it authentic. Plus it has Singha on tap! It is more expensive than your average Thai restaurant, but it's not overly pricey. I recommend this restaurant to everyone. Pros: Singha on tap, service, atmosphere more

Delicious Lemon Drop 6/24/2006

Monkey Bar is the perfect place to stop in and have a signature cocktail and a few small plates. It's nice to have a choice of small plates (Monkey Bar) or larger plates (Citizen Thai) in a beautiful setting. A wonderful edition to North Beach where every doorway is Italian food. The food was yummy! Pros: Delicious drinks and food Cons: unclear how the two are connected or not more

Best overall Thai food! 6/21/2006

I've been to several Thai restaurants, and overall, this is my favorite. Service was a little slow, but they were pretty busy the night I went. The food was really good and prices were fair. The location is greatl, but parking is difficult. The mojito's were yummy! Pros: Good quality, fair prices, good location. Cons: Parking. more

Great food, nice atmosphere 3/19/2006

We ate upstairs in the "Buddha" room which was nicely decorated but still relaxed. The menu had a big selection of dishes and everything we ordered was very good. And, I've eaten my fair share of Thai food, both here and in Thailand. The food was a bit slow coming out but ultimately worth the wait. We still managed to order and eat in an hour and a half without rushing. Pros: Nice Atmosphere, Great Food, Reasonable Prices Cons: A bit slow more

Bad Service Mars Dining Experience 2/14/2006

Appetizers were decent. Our drinks were not so good, and the prices were high. When our main courses finally arrived they were unfornutately cold. We decided to send the coldest dish back to be reheated only to have it returned to us the same way it left. Our waitress disapppeared and was nowhere to be found for most of the meal. Sensing our dismay the manager stopped by out table to inquire. He apologized for the lack of service and offered us a free dessert. We agreed but the dessert never showed up. 20 minutes later our waitress decides to check on us and attempts to make ammends by discounting our bill. It was definitely a nice gesture after the exceptionally bad service. Pros: ambiance, tasty fritters! Cons: poor service more

Left before the entree arrived 12/18/2005

I know this place is new, but still. North Beach. Friday night. Nearly empty! We decided to take a chance. The signature cocktails were good. Wine prices were reasonable. But the food was below average. The green papaya salad lacked flavor and spice, and the softshell crab did not taste fresh. The mieng kum did not have the explosion of flavors I've found at other thai restaurants. We decided to leave rather than pay for yet more food which would not be up to par. Pros: interesting decor Cons: food more

Amazing!!! Highly Recommended! 12/2/2005

We absolutely loved this place!! The food was fabulous, friendly and attentive service, the ambiance is great, awesome location. Overall, it was a great experience and we can't wait to go back! My favorites were the pumpkin curry and the potato samosas. We spent about $30 each including wine and tip. Only con is that parking around there can be rough, but what else can you expect in northbeach :) Pros: food, service, location Cons: parking more

Delish! 11/7/2005

I love this place - everything was delicious - best pad thai i've had in a long time. And it's so cool to be able to eat thai food and have a martini - not just beer or wine. It's definitely a different take on thai, which is refreshing since most thai restaurants in sf have a similar feel. Pros: Full bar, Decor, Food more
