GREAT grownup escape!! 6/21/2006

My husband and I have gone to Cinetopia many, many times. We try to go on Friday night when we can procure a sitter for our two small children. My husband travels a lot for business, and I'm a stay-at-home mom, so our grownup/date time is limited--we try to make the most of it. The living room is the ONLY way to go. We don't even bother with the grand auditoriums. We once had a nosh prior to the movie (in the theater, not the dining room), but the food was tasteless in miniscule portions at a ridiculously bloated price. Don't bother to eat there. The big deal with Cinetopia is that the living room theaters, besides having huge comfy chairs, is always 21-or-older: No kids kicking your seats, teens whispering and giggling, young college kids with cell phones ringing. It's a WONDERFUL grownup escape. Also, being able to enjoy a cold microbrew (or wine) during the flick is a big bonus! My husband and I go elsewhere to eat a nice meal, then go there for a movie and have a pitcher of beer with the flick. It's a great night out. The main problem with Cinetopia is that there are only three living room theaters, so there are never more than three options if you want to enjoy a no-kids movie. We periodically have to take a few weeks off because they'll run one movie for too long. DaVinci, for example, has been playing in the LR forever. MI:3 was up forever too. For the past three weeks, we've not been able to go because they didn't change their movies and we'd already seen them. My other complaint is that they generally just play the typical big-money movies, nothing artistic or indy. Also, with those huge seats, there are far fewer of them, so they sell out fast. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND buying tickets a day or so in advance from the site. The new flicks, especially, sell out far in advance (esp the 8pm shows). Get there early: 1.Parking is a pain. 2.The best LR seats (upper 2 rows) fill up fast. Two LR tickets $28, a pitcher of beer $15...but well worth it for what you get... Pros: LR: No kids, drinks, great seats Cons: Bad food, too few movie options run for too many weeks more

Worth the extra cost 6/15/2006

Well, this place is great! For the opportunity to go to a movie and not fight your way out of a row to go to the bathroom, prop up your feet, and no snickering teenagers or screaming kids - I would pay more! To me it's worth the few extra bucks. \r \r It is nice to be able to eat in the theater, but do not expect great service. We had one server in the entire theater, and when we asked for water, he said 'I'll try' and we never got the water. Thats ok; I just went and got one at the food stand. I love the array of options at the food stand and the option to go to dinner at a nice restaurant at the theater. The food menu also changes about once every 3-6 months, which is nice. The food was tasty, but may be too upscale and pricey for some. \r \r And the Wine bar!!! Wow!! As a wine enthusiast, the chance to sample wines, w/o buying the bottle was fabulous. And these selections have changed too, with new selections available whenever we go.\r \r Now I have been to a regular theater here as well, and the seats were just as nice. Overall- a great experience. more

Worth the drive 6/11/2006

Each movie theater has it's own character. One is a huge screen which is very sharp. Others are smaller and even have live entertainment late at night. There is a wine tasting room where you can choose from so many wines, both expensive and cheaper. You can also get a decent meal there; not just popcorn and candy. \r \r The smaller theaters are comparable in quality to Century16, which means very good views and comfortable chairs. \r \r What else could someone offer? A very nice experience. It's your choice how fancy you want to get. \r \r Pros: Good quality theaters, good quality food. Cons: Long drive for some people. more

Overpriced and under good 5/7/2006

Our waitress at dinner spilled water all over my husband and barely issued a ""oops, sorry"". And that was the highlight of the poor service. The food was okay, but I was expecting something a little more impressive for the price. The theatre was fine, but the seating arrangement make it difficult to sit with your friends in groups larger than 2. The desserts were very tasty though. Pros: dessert Cons: value, service more

Cool way to see a movie 4/25/2006

this theater has the most comfortable seating. WOW!!!! high def really makes a different Pros: seating, servine in theater, butter bar Cons: flooring more

Wow, this is a movie theatre! 4/18/2006

Great theatre, good food and ok (young) servers. Only downfall is that it is in Vantucky which otherwise is a vast wasteland of strip malls and hill billies! Pros: movie screens, food choice, quality Cons: Vantucky! more

No more Regal theatres for me!!! 4/6/2006

I haven't been to a Regal theatre in 5 months! This place is GREAT! All the theatres have reclining leather chairs. The HD screens and sound makes the ultimate experience. When they show a good flick in the living theatres a good glass of wine goes hand and hand. Food portions are definitely small but tasty. Gourmet popcorn (larger kernels than regualer theatres) and butter bar is a great extra. I did their wine tasting 101 class a few months ago and had a GREAT time. The owner of the theatre taught the class! If you're in Portland, this is Worth the drive! Wine list and tasting room is a MUST for the Wine connessiour's. Pros: HD Screens, Comfortable chairs, Ambiance Cons: Food portions more

Looking forward to going to the movies again... 2/6/2006

I've been all over the world and have only been to a few ""high-end"" theatres (none in the U.S.) I would gladly pay for better seats anywhere (planes, trains, etc.) why not at the movies. The 21 & over seating in the ""Living Room"" theatre means no screaming kids or ritalin teenagers. Dinner was great, dishes are small so it gives you a chance to sample several dishes. Along with sampling different wines, this can get spendy but it's so worth it. My only (little) gripe was that the exit signs in the theatre were a bit too bright. Pros: Dining, wine tasting, Great sound system, Live music Cons: Shows can sell out, Can get expensive more
