Best

My roommate and I frequently dine at Chiang Mai Thai. We have been SO impressed with the food!! Pros: Decent Happy Hour, Amazing Curry Cons: Parking

Worst

I have eaten here two times now. The first time it was ok nothing special and now today I went there and there was no teste to the food at all. The service was mediocre to averag...

Great place... 5/16/2005

I remember checking this restraunt out when it first opened and after several years of living out of state and coming back, I'm so glad that it's still here. The food is good and the atmosphere is fun. It's great for a date or a group of friends. Reservations are definitely recommended though. Pros: Neat Atmosphere, Good Food, Great prices Cons: Small bar more

This is not it!! 4/11/2005

Had a birthday party there a few weeks ago. The service was horrible and the food was very bland. Not worth the money at all. more

Amazed it's still there 8/7/2004

I've been a handful of times ... primarily at lunch. They should get points for consistency ... the service is always really slow and my food has always arrived cool (bordering on cold). With so many other great options in a 2 block radius, I'm amazed that they are still in business. Cons: , Food served cold more

Spend money elsewhere 7/14/2004

With so many other good restaurants around, including much better Thai places (esp. True Thai) I will never go back to Chiang Mai Thai. The service was awful, bordering on outright rude and the food was mediocore at best. The curry was mostly coconut milk with absolutely no other flavor or heat, even though it was rated ""hot"" (2 peppers). Our waiter left us waiting forever to order drinks and then mostly ignored us the rest of the night. Two good things about this place: pleasant ambience and lots of veggie options. It's too bad they don't do a lot more with them. Pros: ambience, drinks Cons: , limited parking, food quality more

A great overall experience 7/8/2004

*UPDATE* I'm writing this nearly 2 years after I first reviewed Chiang. Since then, I have been here on at least 4 or 5 occasion and have had the chance to sample many dishes...all good! I especially love the muslim curry! And, contrary to many other reviewers opinions, we recieved excellent service. Drinks were pricey, but really good. I will continue to go back! Pros: atmosphere, outdorr seating, good value more

It cant get any better 3/27/2004

I've had Thai food in many cities and Chiang Mai Thai is about as good as they come. The Tom Yam and the Tom Kha are perennial favorites. My wife and I can never get enough of the Penang curry or the Massaman curry. After eating here there is usually no room for dessert. Neither Sawatdee nor the King and I come any close to Chiang Mai Thai in quality of food. Pros: Food, Comfy seating more

Ching Mai Thai review 9/24/2003

I love the atmosphere and service. the food is also wonderful, but it lacks consistancy in it's spice level. It's levels 0-5 are great, but what may be considered a 1 one day is a 3 the next. Overall the food is great and staff is wonderful! more

Great experience 9/19/2003

Comparable to the Thai restaurants of Manhattan. Loved the Calamari. Chicken Basket appetizer was bland. The Green Curry with Scallops was excellent. So was Chicken Stir Fry in Ginger sauce. Service was decent for a busy Friday night. Pros: Food Cons: Parking more

simply the best! 8/13/2003

I have eaten at many Thai restaurants in the Cities incl Sawatdee, Taste of Thailand and the King & I, but this place is definitely my favorite and my wife's, too! We just love the decor, the atmosphere, the food and the comfortbable booths. I also enjoy the beer selection which incl many of the brown ales and red lagers that I prefer. Service is iffy at times, but overall, ok. We don't come for the svc, we come for the food! I personally think their green curry is the best. I am usually uncomfortably full after my meal because I can't get enough! Pros: food, beer, atmosphere, location Cons: service more

NOt bad 8/9/2003

thought it was pretty good. Portions are quite large for the price. Food is overall quite tasty. My wife especially liked the Tom Yam soup. I thought the curries were so-so, not too spicey. Thai is typically spicier, but I suppose it's slightly watered down for the Western palate. Still, quite enjoyable. Unfortunately the location makes for difficult parking. The restaurant also seems perpetually crowded, making it tough to catch the attention of a server. Also, very cramped. Pros: ambience, fair price Cons: have to park on ramp, crowded, cramped more

Nothing Special! 5/14/2003

I have eaten here two times now. The first time it was ok nothing special and now today I went there and there was no teste to the food at all. The service was mediocre to average at best. The is the sixth different Thai I have been to since moving here and I will never go back. more

nice evening out 4/3/2003

This is the bst Thai restraunt I have been to yet. I have lived all over the midwest and have become quite a critic of Thai food. This is a place that would keep me coming back no matter how far it was!!! Pros: wonderful food, great deacor, good atmosphere Cons: crowded, long waits more

Great atmosphere good food 2/15/2003

Went the Chiang with 5 friends and had a great time, the food was excellent, the atmosphere was perfect. The dim lighting isolates your group and makes for a very private fell. The service wasn't great but the food was excellent. Overall I highly recomend this resteraunt. more

Chiang Don't Try 1/31/2003

Poor service Very unauthentic and bland Disappointed and will not go back. more

HORRIBLE service, good apps 1/17/2003

We'll never eat in the dining room again. Our server stopped by our table 3 times during our visit. To take our dinner order. To offer dessert. To say she forgot to order our coffee and drop off our tab. We waited 10 minutes before being greeted, then were rushed through ordering our meal. No one refilled our water glasses, ever. Our server rushed off while we still ordering dessert and we had to stop her to order coffee. With many other good Thai restaurants in Minneapolis, it's not worth risking the horrible service for a competent, but uninspiring meal here. Pros: Appetizers Cons: Service more

Blah 1/10/2003

Nothing special about the food. Don't care for the advertising slogans either - about as tasteless as the food. Pros: Location Cons: Taste, Value more

Pretty good... 12/16/2002

I just went to Chiang for the first time. I was greatly impressed by the decor. If you're looking for a more trendy, modern atmosphere Chiang is it. The food was good as well. It did not stand out from the crowd of the better Thai places, but was definitely comparable. The only mild complaint I had was with the service. It was very competant but our server, not waitress, had a slightly bad attitude. Hopefully she'll learn not to take a bad day out on the people who are paying her bills... Pros: atmosphere, food Cons: server's attitude more

Chiang, Chiang, Chiang! 12/14/2002

Had a nice lunch on a Friday off of work. Good Cashew appetizer, spicy and tasty! I also enjoyed the drinks. The prices are even posted for the drinks - which you usually don't see. Nice atmosphere and service. Also tried the Tomato Fried Rice - good taste and nice portion size for price. Recommended by me... Pros: Portion size, Drinks, Variety more

Not worth the trip 11/23/2002

Pricey Thai restuarant that serves lukewarm food with MSG unless requested with out. Ambiance is its saving grace. Not worth the trip. Pros: Ambience Cons: Price, Food more

Great meal, Great service! 11/21/2002

Being new to town, we have only tried one other thai place here and weren't impressed. Tonight we happened upon Chaing Mai Thai and had a wonderful meal, with great service to boot! Our server was so helpful suggesting things that she reccommended, and we loved it all! We were impressed with the prices also, and it seemed that they had a lot of selection. We will definatly go back and try other things on the menu. more
