Best Thai in town 4/20/2008

We were impressed with Chiang Mai Thai from the very moment we walked in. We asked the host if he knew if any of the menu items were gluten-free, and he handed us a special menu with gluten-free options. We were then lead around the beautifully decorred restaurant to our seat, all though we could have opted to eat outside as well. The waiter knew the menu, and was able to point me toward the vegan options on the menu. I can't stress how refreshing it is to deal with a waiter who knows the menu. Pros: Knowlegeable staff, great food, unique textures. Cons: Priced a little bit higher than some, but well worth the extra money. more

One of the best meals in Minneapolis 4/6/2008

I was a bit leary after reading some of the reviews about the service, but noted that no one complains about the food, so we gave it a try. My wife and I went on a Saturday night at 7pm without a reservation, and we were seated by 720pm. We had the fired scallops for an appetizer and the panang curry and green cuur for our entree's. Everything was phenominal. IComing off a trip from India, I had been searching for good Thai curry, and they delviered. There is nothing more that I could have asked for. Additionally, the price was very reasonable ($50 for 1 app., 4 drinks, and 2 main courses). I can't wait to go back. Pros: Great Food Cons: only one urnial more

Outstanding! 3/20/2008

Visiting from New York, I was so excited to find a restaurant in which the Thai food was better than anywhere in my city of origin. In fact, I haven't had Thai this good in about ten years. Outstanding taste and fresh ingredients seems to be key at Chiang Mai. I feel so lucky to have stumbled into this place. You can bet I will come back next time I am in Minneapolis. Pros: Great food more

Good Thai food excellent price 2/14/2008

My wife and I went here on valentines day. I had called a little over a week early to make a reservation. When we got to the restaurant we were greeted and promptly taken to our seat. There were no long waits in between things. The food was excellent and we got more than we were expecting. I got enough for two meals and my wife had enough for three. What I really liked is they asked you how hot you would like your dishes and even offered to make it hotter after we got the meal if it was not hot enough! Pros: Great food. Good customer service Great price Cons: When both doors were opened the cold air reached our table. We were towards the entrance. more

unaverage service 1/18/2008

We went here on a Friday night. We were seated pretty quickly, however that's when the promptness ended. It took long periods of time between waiting for our order to be taken, our appetizer to come, then our entrees, and finally another long wait after we were done eating for our bill. The food was ok, but not so spectacular that I would want to go back to withstand the type of service we had. I would actually avoid this place in the future due to being almost ignored. Cons: service, high priced more

Sleek but cozy Thai Decor with average Thai food 3/3/2007

Overall, ChiangMai Thai was a pretty good experience. Pros: Portions are huge! Ambience is really nice Cons: Closest parking is in the cramped ramp more

Great food, poor service 2/4/2007

My fiance and I went to the trendy, uptown Chiang Mai Thai and the food was wonderful, but the service was the worst we'd ever had. Pros: ambience, inexpensive, trendy, great food Cons: Worst service I've ever had more

Managers need to read these reviews 11/20/2006

I love the food at this restaurant, and it upsets me that I won't be going back. I've been several times and always leave upset with the wait staff and hosts. For my husband and I, part of going out to eat is the atmosphere - not just the food - and every time I've been, I've ended up just feeling put off with the way we've been treated. It's interesting too, because reading the reviews it seems as though other people have said the same thing - if I was the manager of a restaurant I would be reading these and attempting to correct the bad behavior of my staff. Pros: The curry is delicious Cons: The wait staff and hosts are cold and rude more

Excellent Experience Overall 11/18/2006

I love Chiang Mai Thai. I am not from the area but everytime I am in town visiting I make a point to revisit! I love the food and have never had bad service. I try a new menu item each time I visit and have never been disappointed. Pros: appetizers, price, parking service more

what happen!!!! 11/12/2006

This restaurant use to be good, but now the food is nasty. I had a bad waitress who try to bs me why the food is sweet. The manager need to stop and hang out at the bar and actually try to train their staff better. Foood eew. Pros: really pretty restaurant Cons: food, and service more

Food actually spicy 9/25/2006

One of the problems I have with Thai restaurants is that the ""spicy"" dishes are never really spicy. Or, if the dishes are spicy, they are so immersed in the peppers that you cannot taste anything else. I think that the dishes here have the perfect blend of peppers and distinct flavoring. That said, the level of spicyness changes everytime I go there (I guess it depends on the chef cooking that night). The Pad Thai is delicious and so are the buffalo wings. Pros: spicy food actually spicy Cons: sometimes bad service, inconsistent spicyness levels more

really nice atmosphere 7/13/2006

I can't say I've every been outrageously impressed by the food here, but I LOVE the ambience. When you step into Chiang Mai Tai, you almost feel asthough you are in Thailand and that's quite a feat! The happy hour is great too. I've eaten dinner here a couple of times, but nowadays i generally just come for happy hour and drinks because I just like hanging out here so much! more

There was no flavor 5/10/2006

Very bland food. No flavor what so ever. I thought it was a bit over priced as well. more

the pad thai is really subpar, but the curry's are phenomenal! busy on weekends. seem rushed out of there by waitstaff when busy. more

No really Thai Food! 2/20/2006

Slow service, food was not as good as I thought it would be, very plain. For what we paid, there should have been more on the plate! more

An Uptown Must!! 2/18/2006

All around great restaurant. The food is excellent and the ambience is great. The service is not amazing but its not bad either. Their fried wontons are some of the best and all the entrees I have tried are excellent. Chiang Mai Thai is also a great value, if you skip the bottle of wine you can get appetizers and dessert and still stay under 35 dollars for two people. If you like Thai food this is the place to go. Pros: Ambience , Food, Value more

The food is the only good thing 7/1/2005

The food was good, just like I had heard it was. However, I was dismayed with the service. I don't mind paying a lot for food (and their food is expensive, especially for what you get), but if I pay a lot, I expect at least decent service. Our waiter was rude and inattentive. After eating, we were fed up with the poor service and wanted to leave, so we asked for our check. It took him more than 10 minutes to bring it to us, and it wasn't even busy. The service alone makes me not want to come back. Try it at your own risk. Pros: good Thai food, fresh food Cons: expensive, poor service more

I have been going there since it opened 6/4/2005

I love CMT! The staff is friendly and urban, efficient and knowledgeable. Considering I know the menu by heart, I rarely seek recommendations but I think it is one of the best restaurants in town and I am an experienced diner who goes out to eat a lot. Bravo! Pros: Food, Service, Hip factor more
