Chez Shea: amazing food, view and dining experience 9/8/2006

Chez Shea is upscale and absolutely fabulous on all counts. The interior is romantic and cozy. Watching the sun set with Pike's Place Market as your foreground, and the wide expanse of the Puget Sound as your background is simply amazing. The food is incredible. For an upscale place, it's the opposite of pretentious. Make reservations in advance. They usually have a chef's tasting menu which is a Prix Fixe menu with wine pairings (if you please). They also let you select your courses from an a la carte menu if the Prix Fixe doesn't suit you. I usually go that route since I don't eat beef - which often shows up in one or more of the courses. The three times that I've been there have been the best three meals of my life. Romantic, tasty, spectacular. more

Cute Rustic Looking Restaurant in the Market! 8/31/2006

Last weekend was my fiance's birthday and I decided to take him to Chez Shea. I've heard raved reviews about it from my coworkers and friends so I decided to dine there. I got reservations at 5:30 since we had to get to the Mariner's game by 7. When we arrived, we were the first to dine at the restaurant that day so the atmosphere is very quite. The view, nice, but not as exquisite as I imainged it. It's high enough where I can see the water and the market. The service was excellent! That's probably because we were the fist couple to dine there therefore they had a lot of time to pay extra attention to us. As for the food, we couldn't try their tasting menu because we were on a time crunch. My fiance decided to order oysters on a shell and seared foie gra for appetizers and I ordered a chilled melon soup. The oysters were a bit big, I generally prefer the kumomotos and smaller oysters, but it's not bad. As for the chilled soup, it was good, but I preferred the melon soup much more if it was made out of honey dew. The foie gra was pretty good, but I've had better. The cantaloupe just didn't cut it for me. It was served with some cold shrimps. For our entrée, I got the king salmon topped with a tomato salsa served over a cornbread, as for my fiance he got the duck confit. The salmon was good, made just right. It was moist and it wasn't as salty. My fiance's duck was pretty good too, not too dry and the seasoning was just right. Overall the food was good and the service was great but it's just not exceptional. I guess it was over hyped and I had such high expectations for it, I was a bit disappointed. This is not to say that it wasn't good, because the food was good, just not perfect! The pricing was decent, and I would probably return again. I wish I can give a 3.5 stars, because it's definitely better then a 3 stars, hence the 4 star rating. :) more

Most romantic restaurant in Seattle! 2/19/2006

I would say that this is probably the most romantic restaurant in Seattle. It is very small, cozy and has dimmed lights. Décor is very simple and elegant. There is Chez Shea dinning room and Chez lounge. Both romantic. Chez Shea dining room has a set dinner and is more expensive and Chez lounge is a la carte. The food is amazing. Very small portions but tasty. You can have a three course meal here and not feel like you are stuffed. Highly recommend it for a nice romantic good night out. But you have to make reservations to get a table. more
