The food is great; I always get cashew chicken. However, tonight they messed up our order and gave us something with broccoli and noodley things. Even though we live in Gresham, m...

ABSOLUTELY THE BEST THAI FOOD AROUND! 1/4/2007

Chaba Thai is hands down the BEST thai food in portland! I like to think of my self of a conosieur (s/p?) of Thai food, and nothing beats this place! Everything is consistent all the time! LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT!!!!!! more

Excellent thai food 12/30/2006

Everything we ordered was well prepared, and the portions were large. If you like things mild, be sure to tell your waiter, as some items were a bit spicy for my wife's taste. Pros: Not greasy, large portions Cons: can be a bit spicy more

Great Thai/ Great Price 11/21/2006

Chaba is my favorite thai restaurant in Portland. I wish i could construct some kind of special trophy to award them for their Pad Ke Mao with Beef. Pros: food, price, service Cons: nope more

Great Thai. Great Price. 9/26/2006

I love the ambiance of Chaba. I also enjoy the food. The satay and pad thai are great! So is the salad with shrimp and lime juice! more

Delectable - sorry I didn't visit sooner 8/31/2006

My friends who live in NE Portland kept pestering me to try this place. They raved about it. I was sketchy on the location. Sandy Blvd is a far cry than say the Pearl District. But now I wish I would have come sooner. Everything we tried was fabulous. I had the pa nang curry. It had just the right amount of spice, and evertyhing tasted fresh. We had the satay with the wonderful peanut sauce and my boyfriend had the Pad Se Ew. The service was fast, but not overly friendly. I have experienced this phenomenon at other Thai places so this was not unfamiliar to me and not bad enough for me to complain about it. Pros: Fabulous Thai food at extremely reasonable prices. Cons: Service can be a little dour. more

hands down best Thai in Portland 8/3/2006

Delicious - by far the best Pad Thai in the city. Super reasonable prices and awesome variety in the menu. If you don't think this is the best in Portland, it is simply because you have not eaten here yet. more

Great basic Thai 3/15/2006

I would like to delete my review but Citysearch will not let me so I am replacing my review with this. Pros: Affordable, Tasty more

Classy Thai at very reasonable price 2/27/2006

I looked it up on Citysearch and decided to give it a try - despite the negative comments on the decor and the service. Well, I found both to be very warm and comfortable, and quite relaxing. Great food and plenty of it. The Emerald is the best chicken and broccoli/spinach I've had...enough for 2 people at $8 total. I'm going again tonight for the pad thai. Everything I saw looked great. A must try. Pros: ambiance, FOOD, price more

Mouth watering! 2/24/2006

I read the reviews here and drove out there. Afraid of how bad the service would be, I ordered take out. The food was delicious!!!! During the 10 minutes I was there, I saw a lot of customers come in! I'm definitely going back there again and this time I'll eat-in! Pros: Yum food!!! Cons: None that I noticed more

Best noodle dishes around... 11/17/2005

Though I agree that the service is often below average, the food makes up for it! Chaba Thai has the best Pad Kee Mao in Portland and, dare I say it?, amazing Pad Thai (which is the most overdone ""Thai"" dish but so good when it's good). Pros: Food Cons: Service more

Great Food, Bad Service 3/25/2004

The food here is great... I have to give that but the srvice really needs to be improved. I waited longer for the check that it took to order and eat the food, and had to get up and go ask the waiter twice to have my check. They are often understaffed and do a poor job of juggling between the carryout customers and the dining ones. Pros: Food more

Yummy!!! 12/21/2003

I love this place! I had the salad rolls for an appetizer and the yellow curry and phad vegetables with cashews for dinner. It was sooo good. The service was great, the atmoshpere was fun and colorful, and the food was perfect. I highly recommend this place. Try it! more

I like this place! 12/6/2003

Nice atmosphere, some of the best Thai food I have had in Portland. Large portions--I always have some left for lunch the next day. Service can be poor on their busy nights. Pros: Excellent food, Good value Cons: Parking, Poor service more

One of the better Thai 7/29/2003

Nice little surprise as this place is not often mentioned as one of the better Thai spots. The lemongrass chicken salad was excellent, as they do something to the chicken strips that makes the difference. They skimp a bit on the catfish dishes. You gotta try the shrimp egg rolls, no baby shrimp here. For a healthy alternative, try the tuna appetizer, you'll have enough left over for lunch. Nice owners, but some servers are a bit bland. Don't suggest you visit after 9:30 p.m. as you'll feel a bit rushed to finish. Pros: lemongrass chicken, shrimp rolls more

best pad thai 7/27/2003

Chaba Thai has the best pad thai I have tasted in Portland. The presentation is wonderful, the way the food is not all mixed together is very chic. All the food is served and eaten on fiestaware and looks colorful, the beautiful bouqet of flowers when you enter. with ginger flower is an exotic enterence to the restaurant. Every dish I have ordered is great. The service is good. This is my favorite. I usually judge a place by it's pad Thai, but there is so much more to choose it's hard. Pros: inexpensive, good food, good service Cons: not enough parking more

exquisite starters 1/21/2003

rarely do i enjoy food epiphanies. twice, here though, i've been elevated by the starters here to that higher realm of culinary love and joy. once, it was the miang pla tu, with tuna transformed into a blooming flower of lemongrass and kaffir lime. another time, it was a special (miang kum?) of wild betel leaves, with little bites of lime, peanut, coconut, etc. with a mysterious black dipping jelly that caused great bliss. entrees have so far been decent, the lighting is terrible, confounded by screaming orange walls. Pros: bliss, joy, happiness Cons: bright, orange, walls more

bland but authentic 1/5/2003

This is in the top five in PDX but the kitchen can be inconsistent. Thankfully the table is set with forks and there is nary a fortune cooky to be seen. The noodles actually arrive with sufficient sprout and veg. garnish as well . The much lauded peanut sauce is often too sweet and tastes as if it were composed of 99% heavy coconut milk. Indeed some of their curries and the tom kha are overloaded with coconut milk. The paht kee mao was decent although a little underspiced and not anywhere near as smoky and redolent of holy basil as it should be. The pad thai noodles are a disgrace as the chef clearly uses ketchup or a close facsimile. Their wok needs more BTUs. Pros: reasonable prices, mostly authentic Cons: underspiced, peanut sauce cloying more

Sweet Mother of Peanut Sauce! 12/4/2002

Chaba is by far the best Thai joint in PDX. Delectable and perfectly composed peanut sauce that is sweet, spicy and hearty without being cloying (try the Emerald with chicken). Their curries are all piquant and individually mastered, the use The FRESHEST and best chicken and prawns and I am completely addicted to their Pad See Ew which combines wide rice noodles with fresh broccoli in an unbelievable sweet soy sauce. Their food is so consistent that trying everything on the menu is not a risk - it's a challenge! Hooray for Chaba! Pros: insanely delicious, fresh ingredients, inexpensive Cons: to go takes forever, crappy parking, doesn't deliver more

Best Thai restaurant in Portland. Well worth the drive out there! Please, if you love Thai food, check this family owned restaurant out!!! Pros: Peanut Sauce RULES!!!, Tempura RULES!, Excellent Value! more

Best Thai Food in P-town 10/30/2002
