Excellent care at a fair price 11/13/2012

Four years ago when we moved to midtown, I posted on facebook to ask friends for vet recommendations in the area. Overwhelmingly, people suggested Central Animal Hospital. I am tremendously grateful that they did. Dr. Karnes and her staff have cared for our dogs with empathy and compassion in addition to great skill and cutting edge techniques...all at a reasonable price. We have spent more time at Central Animal Hospital than I would like (not because I don't enjoy our visits...but because I wish that we hadn't needed to go there so often!). The preventative, sick, and emergency care that our dogs have received has always been top notch. The top three things about Central Animal Hospital (in my opinion): - Excellent care at a fair price: Let's be honest...the care of my dogs is important to me. So, am I looking for the cheapest option? Absolutely not. Instead, I'm looking for excellent care at a fair price. You will certainly get that at Central. Central always provides a patient care more

Central always provides a patient care plan which outlines the potential costs of treatments. It helps me to know in advance what I'm committing to pay. I have been to other vet offices in the past where the bill could be a huge surprise after the treatment was given. This won't happen at Central. Dr. Karnes & her staff are also aware that we have a limited budget, and they are respectful about what we are/are not able to do for our pets and provide treatment options at different price points when possible. - Personal attention: Dr. Karnes & her staff know us by name. They know our pets, me, my husband, & even my infant daughter, calling each of us by name and asking how we are doing. I always have a million questions, and each of my questions is consistently answered with patience & concern. I never feel rushed. Dr. Karnes & her staff realize that, as a veterinary office, they not only have to treat their animal patients...they also have to coach & guide the pets' humans through these treatments. I am thrilled with the care that my pets have received, but I am truly touched by the compassion, empathy, and care that has been shown towards me. - Honesty: Dr. Karnes is honest about treatment plans. She's honest about how much they cost and about how likely they are to work. She may not have a crystal ball to let her know for sure whether a plan will work, but she will tell you the truth about the odds...even when it's difficult to hear. I hope that you will consider Central Animal Hospital for your pets. If you're half as pleased with your experience as I have always been, you'll be in great shape! more

Had a very nice expierience 9/13/2011

I took my German Sheppard up to Central and had a wonderful time. The staff seemed very sweet and my dog was very comfortable. He was groomed and had his shots. It is also very well priced I will return here for any of my animal needs. more

Caring and considerate 6/14/2011

Central Animal Hospital is a wonderful establishment that treats its patients (both animals and owners) seriously and respectfully. I have never had anything but top notch service here. Most recently I called a few minutes after closing with a pet emergency and was told to come right away. I left that visit feeling much less anxious, with a treated animal, and Dr. Karnes' cell phone number in case my pet took a turn for the worse during the night. How does one not LOVE that care? more

Poorly organized 3/5/2011

Although I would agree with previous ratings that Dr. Lynn demonstrated a good bedside manner and professionalism, she (and a couple of male techs) cannot singlehandedly counteract the damage that the rest of the staff has caused to the facility's reputation. There appears to be little communication between those at the front desk and the vets. Important test results are apparently lost or stored in an unorganized fashion. After spending a good part of a thousand dollars, one should be prepared to have to re-explain his or her animal's entire medical history to the techs, the next day, as they cannot be bothered to prepare or read the charts. One of the female tech's condescension was difficult to stomach, on more than one occasion.I was unimpressed with the ownership. My animal had to be euthanized only two weeks after receiving "treatment" and a clean bill of health from this vet. In response to a previous posting by a staffer at this vet, it should be noted that "perceived abuses" c more

Good People 2/5/2009

I have had many pets in the past 20 years and have been to my fair share of vets in the cities where I've lived. Most vets these days play on the pet owner's emotions with ridiculous pricing. \r Central Animal Hospital offers the most comprehensive services I've seen and the Dr's really care about the pet's (and owner's) experience. The prices are fair and they always have an appointment that works with my busy schedule. The personal touch they offer is wonderful. Very good people!\r I've been singing their praises for several months and I will proudly refer any pet owner to them. more

I love CAH 2/4/2009

Fantastic place to take your pets! You can trust their staff and feel confident leaving your babies in their care. They have never been anything but super duper nice to me, their prices are more than reasonable, and their staff actually cares about the animals. Don't listen to negative stuff about Central. I've been going there for over 6 years and never had a SINGLE problem. more

I've been lucky enough to have the staff of Central Animal Hospital care for my cat since she was just a few weeks old.... 9 years ago! They have shown only exceptional care toward my pet throughout the years and I honestly appreciate their work and concern. Even though I moved out of the Midtown area a few years ago, there was no thought of leaving Central Animal Hospital! more

Central Animal Hospital 2/3/2009

I have been going to Central Animal Hospital for years. I have had my pets spayed, neutered, diagnosed and treated for various illnesses and euthanized in one case when there was no chance for recovery. In each and every case my animals have been treated with the utmost care and concern. One of my cats was viciously attacked by two large dogs at 4:00 a.m.several months ago; I rushed him to the Animal Emergency Center on Summer Avenue then over to Central after they had him stabilized. I credit Central Animal Hospital with saving his life by their constant diligence and professional care over the week-long period he spent there. The doctors and staff must treat thousands of animals during the calendar year, but they have developed a manner of doing things that make each and every pet and owner feel special. That's not easy to do. \r Five gold stars for all the good people over at Central Hospital. more

Long time customer that thinks Central Animal Hospital is great! 2/3/2009

I have been using Central Animal Hospital for over 15 years and I am a very happy customer. There have been several different doctors, and the staff has changed over the years (all but one I think). Through the years everyone has been great. The newest owners have remodelled the building and updated a lot of their equipment. This has made it easier for us customers and better for our pets.\r \r Most of all, they seem to really care about my babies. That to me is the most important factor in choosing a vet. Cost is very important too, especially nowadays, and they always try to keep things reasonable.\r \r Thank you very much to everyone from Central Animal Hospital for many years of great service, and I look forward to many more. more

Great follow up 2/3/2009

I recently took my cat Simba into Central, he had gotten dehydrated due to a uti. They took excellent care of him. After I got him home being a overly worried cat owner who is convinced no one can understand the extreme level of love i have for this cat i got worried about some of his behaviours. I called Central, it was the day off of the vet who had preformed my cats procedure. The vet on call reassured me, but a few minutes i got a call at home from the vet who had performed my cats procedure who further allayed my worries. I was so impressed that the office would call her on her day off to relay my worries and even more impressed that she would then call me just to allay my fears. Really appreciated that. Cant imagine that I would have gotten than kind of service anywhere else. Thanks you Central!! more

Never a problem 2/3/2009

I've used this clinic for over 8 years. I just recently had a problem and they saw my dog the same day. They gave me and my pet attention and fast service. She was given medicine that began working that same day. They have done a follow-up call to make sure that she was improving. They always seem friendly and ready to help in any problem I've had. more

Exceptional Quality and Care 2/3/2009

My experiences with Central Animal Clinic and the doctors and techs has been superior to Vets I have been to in the past. I drive across the city to go to this great facility. Believe me, there are a dozen Vets between my house and Central Hospital. However, I wouldn't have it any other way. When our 14 year old best friend, Maggie, was very sick and ultimately had to be put down, who was there to watch over her and to give her the best care? Central. Who came to my home to help with the grieving and to actually put down our Maggie in my sister's arms. Central. Who always asked about how we were doing and was there to help introduce our new babe...Sweet Sadie Blue... to Central and her new home away from home? Central.\r I could not be more pleased with the care of the animals,as well as the interest and care of the people who go to this establishment. \r Thank you, Central!! more

I am very pleased with Central Animal Hospital 2/3/2009

Even though we live in Cordova and it is a schlep to get to the Liberty Bowl area, we are quite pleased with the care and attention the doctors and staff have had with our 2 cats and 2 dogs. In fact, our older dog gave birth to a litter of pups there almost 8 years ago, and our 2 dogs are the Mom and her female pup. Both dogs have been spayed there as well as the older dog being treated for both heartworms and tapeworms after I first found her.\r \r I would highly recommend this animal hospital. As long as I show up on time, they rarely make me wait, which is why I left the previous vet's office in Cordova. They even call the next day to see how each pet is after being treated.\r \r Vic Butcher, CPA, LUTCF more

Excellent care for your pets - and kind people too!!! 2/3/2009

Central Animal Hospital has given absolutely excellent care to my sweet dog Jasper. From treating his heart condition (Jasper was a "geriatric" patient) with medications that worked wonders, to putting him on special food that really helped his kidneys, to just being a very good support to me when I needed to ask questions and find out what to expect from Jasper at this stage in his life, they were so helpful. The last time I needed to refill Jasper's heart medication, I had waited (of course) until the last minute - it was December 23rd, I had a flight out of town for the holidays that afternoon and was taking Jasper to stay with friends while I was gone. CAH had just run out of this medication but more would be delivered later that day, but after I had to leave town. Instead of having me arrange for someone to come get the pills after I was gone, they called another vets office, went and got the pills for me, and had them at their office for me to pick up in time to take with my dog more

very friendly, nice boarding, nice vet 2/3/2009

I have moved around Memphis alot so I always get a vet. that is close to where I am. By far this has been my favorite. When I travel I have to board my German shepherd and this is the only place where when I bring him home, he isn't skittish for the next week. Also one time I brought his favorite toys up there when I boarded him. My friend picked him up early as she got back in town two weeks before I did and forgot to get his toys. Nearly a month later when I went in there for a doggy checkup. They brought me out a bag of his toys that they saved and stored for the next time they see me. I did not think business' like that existed anymore. Overall the pricing is midrange and what you would expect but I believe the quality care exceeds the price they charge. I would highly recommend this place. Thank you for taking good care of Kohl more
