Editorial review from Citysearch 2/10/2013

Went there almost 12 years ago and got my first tattoo there. About 3 years ago, I decided to add more... so I check, and they are still there. I contacted Terry the owner, and he was booked up for months, so he introduce me to Aaron Grace. What a talented artist. Since then I have been going be several times a year to complete both my sleeves with Aaron. He was able to take my crude idea, and turn it to something way above my wildest imagination. We are almost done with my right sleeve, got 1 more session to go, and we are planning on extending my left sleeve, as well as looking into a shoulder / back piece.\r \r Always a pleasure going there... when Aaron was prepping, I talked to the other artists, and they are super friendly, even though I am not getting work done by them. Some of them even come talk to me while I am getting tattooed.\r As for the pricing... I think it's reasonable. You are getting custom work (not off a book / magazine) done on your body, and for the quality of work, I am more than willing to pay for that price.\r \r I don't know why there will be any ratings less than excellent... incredible artists, friendly place, I look forward to going there every time I get an appointment..... more

Best Ink and Piercings 4/4/2012

Been here many times, you should visit if you want to see good art, want a sick new tattoo or piercing. They don't have books so come in with an idea or pictures of what you like. The guy at the front was helpful in explaining how they work and how to schedule. I got my ear pierced to match my other one i've had for 10 years since it was only $25. The blonde girl was nice and quick and it dint bleed at all. They take cash and card, but parking sucks and the coke machine doesn't work. more

Best Place to get Ink & Piercings 12/7/2011

I don't know what all the bad reviews are about?? I've been geoing here for the past few years. I've had 3 tattooes and 4 piercings here. The place is clean, layed back & always a good expereince! The artists are better than anywhere I've been & being a driver, I have lived many places. The piercer I read about is who has done all my piercings; she's always very clean, professional & honest. I saw her have to turn away a piercing because the girl didn't have the id she needed. Parking can be a hastle, but if a business is busy, there is probably a good reason for it! My family & friends all love it & I wouldn't go anywhere else! more

Great shop great art! 12/7/2011

I am Brittany Jo, the Head Piercer & Laser Tattoo Removal Technician at Cat Tattoo. First, in regards to the tattooing, I think everyone looking at our shop should know that we are a custom studio. Our artists offer custom art that is hand drawn & designed for your body, rather than books/flash that you look through & pick out to have stickered on you, as thousands of others have already done. Second,We aren't the cheapest, but from being tattoed personally & seeing a pleuthora of inked skin, you pay for what you get! Why would you spend more money on a pair of shoes/jeans that you might have for maybe a year as opposed to something you wear everyday & take to the grave? Check it out for yourself! more

Brittany Rocks! 7/27/2011

I've had several piercings done by Brittany at Cat Tattoo. Brittany is very knowledgable and professional. She is extremely sweet and I love all of my piercings! I will definitely be back for more. more

Awesome Experience, Amazing piercer! 4/1/2011

I recently moved to the Dallas area and was looking for a new piercing/tattoo shop which is not a fun endeavor at all, because it's like trying to find a good Chinese food place in an area you know nothing about. Most of them will be absolutely horrible, some decent and out of the 300 Chinese restaurants there may be, there will be 1 restaurant that is amazing and that you would recommend to everyone and go eat there for a week straight. This was the Cat Tattoo shop!! I drove around checking out any and all tattoo/piercing shops, some my friends recommended to me, some I found in the phone book and some I just happened to pass by. NONE of them were up to my standards as I would consider myself a very educated customer in the piercing and tattoo fieIds. I know what I want and how a piercing/tattoo shop should look considering I've been getting tattoos and piercings for 8 years now. Most of the shops were needless to say, sketchy! and a lot of the piercers I would never let come near me for fear of contracting hepatitis or being pierced by an idiot with sketchy jewelry that was down right dangerous and unsanitary in the least and questionable at best! For all you piercing newbs, if your piercer can't tell you the difference between externally and internally threaded jewelry and has dermal anchors that have wire bases....RUN, RUN and never look back. This was what I encountered all day! Until my last stop at Cat Tattoo which I happened to see on my way home. I walked in and was greeted immediately by the staff and in particular by a blonde girl (who I later found out was Brittany Jo, the piercer) who asked me if I needed help with anything. I immediately launched into my interrogation of what jewelry company they used, what type of metal was their jewelry made of, internally vs. externally threaded, I wanted to see the bases of their dermal anchors, her piercing jewelry in general, her portfolio of piercings she had done, the aftercare they recommended and the area in which they pierced clients. And to my surprise, not only did Brittany and Cat Tattoo pass my inspection with flying colors, they also were very courteous and answered each of my questions thoroughly and without hesitation. These people knew their stuff! I originally just came in to get my jewelry changed out in one of my ear piercings but after talking to Brittany and looking around the shop I ended up leaving with 2 additional piercings! I had such a good experience at this shop that I had to make sure that other people knew about Cat Tattoo not ONLY as a tattoo shop, but as an excellent piercing shop as well! Brittany Jo the main piercer is absolutely AMAZING! She is extremely knowledgeable in her trade and I would recommend her to anyone and would trust her to pierce even my own family. I was thoroughly impressed by her knowledge and skill. She is really amazing when it comes to listening to what you want done, she offers suggestions without being pushy, and she is very informative in telling you each step of the piercing process. In addition, Brittany had excellent customer service, she made me feel comfortable and was extremely friendly. Cat Tattoo had a very clean environment and between each customer they sanitized the chairs and cleaned their areas thoroughly. Everything Brittany used was autoclaved and untouched by human hands until being used on the client for a piercing. Most importantly Cat Tattoo has a clean and safe environment which I noticed as soon as I walked through the door. I had an awesome experience here and will continue to go to Cat Tattoo for all my body modification needs. I can not stress enough to everyone how amazing this place is and how good their piercer is at her job! This is the ONLY place to go if you want to get tatted or pierced up! more

Never got our tattoos 2/3/2011

Someone recommended CAT to me so a good friend and I decided to go and each have a tattoo done. The night before we planned on going, I was close by CAT and decided to drop in and check it out - see if it was clean, look at a book, see what the artists were like , etc. When I pulled up, there were a couple of employees there, one of whom was inking a customer. I spoke to the young lady and she said they were closing. I told her I was there for a tattoo yet, and that my friend and I were planning on getting tattoos the next night and if I could look at a book for 5 minutes. I would have understood what happened next had they been closed, but they were still working on someone and I just wanted to look at a couple of examples of their artist's work to see what kind of work they did. She then asked the artist working, who proceeded to look at me, roll his eyes, jerk his earbuds out (sorry I interrupted your iPod session, dude) and go 'What?' I apologized and explained that my friend and I were planning on coming back the next night to get tattoos and if I could look at the book that was 5 feet away on the counter for just a minute. I had no intention of holding these guys up, the weather was crappy and I didn't want to cause anyone to get home later than they had to, but they were still working so I don't understand why this was such a big deal, especially when I told them they would be getting two customers the next day. The artist was incredibly rude and she he couldn't even let me in the door (which was weird because I was already inside). I only have a couple of tattoos, and I don't know all the tattoo shop etiquette, so I may be totally off base, but I wasn't asking anyone to keep the store open and stay late for my sole benefit, I literally wanted to flip through one book for two minutes and be on my way. I thought that knowing they would be getting two jobs the next day, they wouldn't be so off-putting, but they were so now we'll probably go to Obscurities in Oak Lawn. tl;dr Artist was a jerk, going to Obscurities. more

Here To Do the Best Tattoos Possible 6/9/2010

We are a custom tattoo studio. If you look at our reviews you can see that clients either love us or find a reason to hate us. It seems only the extremely happy or the extremely mad take the time to write a review. However Im sure after 15 years in business and being the highest grossing studio in the DFW area we are doing something correct. Not everyone can be made happy and not everything a client wants tattooed will make a good tattoo. We try to explain the reasons for this to our clients but not everyone realizes we are trying to get them the best tattoo possible that will also be a good looking tattoo for life. While our process is not for everyone it is for the high end customer looking for a custom one of kind tattoo and that client is educated about the difference between bad tattoos and good tattoos. Look at our work on our website cattattoo com you can see the difference in what we do. If any one is treated in a unprofessional manner please feel free to contact me directly 972-386-9771. Terry Mayo Owner Cat Tattoo Pros: Custom One of a Kind Tattoos Cons: High End tattoo studio looking for the educated client more

Excellent tattoo studio 4/20/2009

Cat Tattoo is an excellent place! I walked in with only a vague ideas of what I wanted and my artist was very patient and worked with me to get exactly what I wanted. The studio is clean and the artists are friendly, and they all really know what they are doing and how to make you feel comfortable. I definitely recommend Cat Tattoo to anyone who's looking to get inked! Pros: clean, amazing artists more

Great Experience 4/20/2009

I recently had a old cross that needed additional attention and it took me a long time to research the right person to improve my old tattoo. I met with Goolsby on several different sessions, I like that he took his time making sure every peice looked great. Then I had to let my skin heal for the next sessions. Most tattoo artists that I had previously encountered wanted to get my tat done quickly, and they weren't always straight. Aaron took his time and did a great job on the end product. I love it. Pros: Coverup Cross more

Best Tattoo Experience I Have Ever Had!!! 4/19/2009

I recently began a cover up piece with Aaron Goolsby and it was an awesome experience. He is an amazingly talented artist with a great personality. I enjoyed the atmosphere of the shop and can't wait to go back! Pros: Incredible Artists and a Clean, Welcoming Environment more

Aaron Goolsby Rocks! 4/7/2009

I went to Aaron Goolsby last November to fix a tattoo I wasnt happy with. The color was dull and there wasnt much shading detail, but after Goolsby worked on the angel wings on my back I was much happier! I received compliments before but even more now. (I was stopped in sephora last week by a guy who said my wings were the first hes seen that werent kinda boring.)I went back to Goolsby for a Fleur De Lis tattoo on my wrist and got more then i expected. The detail is amazing and its obviously the work of a true artist. My friend watching me get the tattoo was even surprised of all the shading and highlights. She told me ""when I saw him pulling out more colors i was wondering what he was doing but it looks amazing."" It is well worth the money to go to an artist I know is going to give me great results then take a chance on someone risky. Aaron Goolsby is an amazing artist as well as a real professional. Ill be back for the next one!Thank you! Pros: best tattoo artist. more

Aaron Goolsby rocks! 3/11/2009

Aaron Goolsby did a stunningly beautiful, truly professional tattoo on my back. He was able to cover up an old, lame tattoo (by someone downtown) and make it disappear. Placement on the body makes a difference, and this tattoo is really flattering. I love the hyper details, shading, and color. Our consult was cool because he is an artist - he patiently explained lots of styles and what would work best. Goolsby (he said he goes by his last name) drew up everything so I would have an exact, custom design of what I wanted. The day of my tattoo I was a bit nervous because I'm a germ freak and hadn't been tattooed in years, but he was totally sanitary and it didn't hurt anywhere near as bad as the other tats I have. I'm so happy with the tattoo, I highly recommend Aaron Goolsby. Pros: Aaron Goolsby does amazing tattoo work! Cons: tattoos hurt (duh) more

Best Piercing Experience Ever! 1/23/2009

I wanted to get my bellybutton pierced so I called around to different places in the DFW area. When I called here, whoever picked up the phone was incredibly nice, and very patient when I asked him a multitude of questions, which included: Do you pierce minors? What do i need to bring with me? Does it hurt? He answered yes, they pierce minors, all I needed to bring was a parent, my ID and her/his ID (with our last names matching) and a copy of my birth certificate, and that most of the people that he pierced came to the consensus that it didn't hurt nearly as bad as they had imagined. When I pulled up to the shop I was very pleasantly surprised to find that it was completely sterile, and the people were just as friendly as they had been on the phone. The guy who pierced my bellybutton (Chris) was easygoing and nice, yet completely professional, and there was hardly a wait at all to get down to business! He marked my bellybutton and made sure it was lined up properly and that I liked the position it was at, and pierced it. The whole piercing process (from needle to screwing on the ball) took 15 seconds or less, much faster than I had expected! I was extremely happy with the entire ordeal, and did not run into any problems at all. He explained the after-care process in depth and made sure that I knew how to clean my piercing properly. Overall, I am immensely happy with the results, and could not have had a better experience anywhere else!! I have already recommended Cat Tattoo Company and Chris to several of my friends who are looking to get piercings, and am sure that they'll be visiting soon! Pros: Nice People, Great Atmosphere, Quick and Painless... just about everything you'd hope for when getting a piercing! more

THE OWNER IS A LIAR AND A FRAUD! 11/11/2008

DO NOT GO TO THIS PLACE! I went in on 4/25/08, spoke to Terry Mayo, gave him my photos/reference material. He told me it would be a $100 deposit just for him to draw it up (that $100 paid for his time, supposedly) and that it would be 3-4 months at the most for him to get it drawn up. August rolled around, nothing. No drawing, no e-mail or call from him. I did try to keep in contact with him and he had the audacity to tell me that he did send me a drawing. I checked both my e-mail addresses and nothing. So basically this guy, the OWNER of the shop straight up lied to me...Also he told me it would be about $1000 for a piece on my back that only took up a quarter of my back. And I'm a petite person. So, now we're in November and still no drawing. No response to my e-mails and no phone call. I hope this place goes under... Cons: sux more

AVOID AT ALL COSTS. 9/25/2008

Went to get my tongue and navel pierced with their 2 for $40 deal thing. I made sure to call in beforehand seeing as I'm only 16, and was told I had to bring in my birth certificate and my mom, nothing else was acceptable. no birth certificate, no piercing (she was really rude on the phone) okaaay fine...my dad went SOO out of his way to go to our storage facility 30 minutes away to get it. finally evening rolls around and we head over there, money and birth certificate in hand, THEY NEVER EVEN ASKED FOR THE DAMN BIRTH CERTIFICATE. Then when I went back there, the guy (matt) didn't even give me an opportunity to check the placement on my tongue or stomach. His hands smelled really bad of cigarettes, he was out of the (free) normal navel barbells and I had to pay extra for a lame sparkly one. he paused for more then a few seconds on both of the piercings making it hurt soo much worse, not to mention he had me laying down for my tongue piercing and I almost choked from salivating and bleeding so much with it all rolling down my throat. The only aftercare tips he gave me were (for tongue) ""no oral, no making out, and if yer gonna drink, no beer stick to hard liquor"" (for navel) ""clean it like you would any other piercing"" he also never specified if I can go back there and get my long tongue barbell switched out for free or not. I won't even bother to call and ask I'm going somewhere else...\r \r so its Thursday now, my tongue and navel are way more sore then they ought to be, my navel is bright red and just doesn't feel right, I think he took too much skin in the clamp and now its like really tight, hard to explain...\r \r Ugh it was just horrible. I really wish I had gone somewhere else =( Pros: 2 piercings for $40 bucks, clean Cons: everything else more

bad piercings. 9/8/2008

I got my belly button pierced here a couple of years ago, and that went alright, so i went in about a month ago to get my daith pierced but apparently my ear wasn't shaped for that type of piercing. I decided to get my cartilage pierced instead. the person doing it was rude, trying to convince me another piercing would be cuter, and that everyone had it and that i had to be original. i was like, ""sir, it's my piercing and i know what i want."" the piercing was made more complicated than it had to be, the person piercing it was mean, his hands smelled like cigarettes, the wait was ridiculous, all of the employees were rude. To top things off, my piercing got infected because i wasn't given suggestions as to how to take care of it or what to/not to use to clean it. I had to take it out a week ago. My friend went in there to get a price estimation and they thought they were the most awesome, amazing artists. so snobby and not nice at all, nor friendly.\r If you're looking for good service, I wouldn't suggest this place. Pros: cool place Cons: atmosphere, service, attitude, friendliness non-exsistent. more

Lame! 8/12/2008

I went in to get a price quote and the artist was like ""uh, I can't do that. Nah, and walked off"" They were rude on the phone and in the shop, not to mention the shop didn't look very clean. I definitely don't recommend it. Try Skin Art Gallery about a block away, they are great =) Cons: service, atmosphere more
