Someone recommended CAT to me so a good friend and I decided to go and each have a tattoo done. The night before we planned on going, I was close by CAT and decided to drop in and check it out - see if it was clean, look at a book, see what the artists were like , etc. When I pulled up, there were a couple of employees there, one of whom was inking a customer.
I spoke to the young lady and she said they were closing. I told her I was there for a tattoo yet, and that my friend and I were planning on getting tattoos the next night and if I could look at a book for 5 minutes. I would have understood what happened next had they been closed, but they were still working on someone and I just wanted to look at a couple of examples of their artist's work to see what kind of work they did. She then asked the artist working, who proceeded to look at me, roll his eyes, jerk his earbuds out (sorry I interrupted your iPod session, dude) and go 'What?'
I apologized and explained that my friend and I were planning on coming back the next night to get tattoos and if I could look at the book that was 5 feet away on the counter for just a minute. I had no intention of holding these guys up, the weather was crappy and I didn't want to cause anyone to get home later than they had to, but they were still working so I don't understand why this was such a big deal, especially when I told them they would be getting two customers the next day. The artist was incredibly rude and she he couldn't even let me in the door (which was weird because I was already inside).
I only have a couple of tattoos, and I don't know all the tattoo shop etiquette, so I may be totally off base, but I wasn't asking anyone to keep the store open and stay late for my sole benefit, I literally wanted to flip through one book for two minutes and be on my way. I thought that knowing they would be getting two jobs the next day, they wouldn't be so off-putting, but they were so now we'll probably go to Obscurities in Oak Lawn.
tl;dr Artist was a jerk, going to Obscurities.
