Drink and Move! 10/2/2011

So, everything started OK...good communication about packing and pickup dates ( supposed to be the same). As soon as the packers came to pack my one bedroom apartment things started to go south. The two packers took so long...they arrived at 8am and finished at 5pm..for a 600 sq ft apt. They did a good job packing but as a result of there sloth like speed the pickup had to be pushed back a day..resulting in me leaving a day late on a military move. The next day the driver came in a small Uhaul which already had another apartments stuff in it. He said the bigger one was not available and he would have to take half my stuff, drive 1 hour to unload it in the semi and come back to get the rest. The driver brought his wife ( for paperwork) and two guys as local help for heavy lifting. The driver insisted on taking EVERYTHING apart..saying the delivery driver would put it back together...i had my doubts but just wanted to get moving. About 2 hours into the second day...i was informed that the two helpers had been drinking in the bar in the basement....one had drank 3 shots and a beer and the other 2 mixed drinks...all before 11am!...The driver brought them to me and they apologized and said they had only had one...i found out later that day from the owner of the bar what they actually drank!..I was a little taken aback by this situation but I just kept a close eye on them and figured if anything was damaged..i had that on my side..and more as it would turn out. So..when they had loaded the uhaul they left at 12 ish...i expected them back 2.5 hours later....but no..they got back at 6pm for the rest..without even a call. They finished loading the rest and were on there way...and My wife and I hit the road at 830pm that day...when i had expected to have left the previous day at 4pm or so based on my last move 3 years before. Next comes when my stuff gets delivered...this driver was very good but sadly did not make up for the rest of the experience. He delivered almost all my stuff but was unable to bring it all as the previous driver had mixed up loads in the semi...we were not missing anything of great value thankfully. The biggest problem was because the first driver had taken everything apart and not organized it so it arrived all jumbled and was impossible to put back together...what a suprise!...on top of that the initial driver had altered the inventory sheets..adding a comment that we had all hardware...my copy had not such comment and was a total lie..more ammunition for me!..Im still waiting for a settlement from the company through the military web site. To be fair the claims department have been very helpful so far....thats it more

Not a Happy Camper 6/27/2011

This was our first move as a military family. We moved from Pensacola, FL to San Diego, CA. The packing went very well and I was very happy that I didn't have to worry about it. However, the delivery of our stuff to our new home did not go so well. To start off, the time frame that we were given for when the movers were going to be here to drop off our stuff was 11am-1pm. They didn't show up until almost 4pm. I called the office and told the lady that were not here and she put me on hold, I guess to call the movers. When she got back on the line, she said they were on their way and would be here in about 35 minutes. I asked if they said why it was taking so long, and she rudely said ""You aren't the only pick-up or drop-off today and that's why we tell you to be available from 8am-5pm."" Well nobody told me to be available all day and if they give you a time frame of when they should be there, is it wrong of me to expect them at that time? When the movers got to our house, I answered the door and the guy just gave me the creeps. Like he was hitting on me or something. And my husband was in the other room. I had to get my husband so he could deal with them, that's how much he creeped me out. I went in our bedroom and was watching them unload the pallet so that if they dropped anything, I would see. They were very rough with our things and didn't take caution with anything. When everything was in our house, we realized we were missing some items and some items were completely ripped and trashed. If they are so called ""professional movers"" than why did our stuff get to us like this? I understand it was a very long move but my mother-in-law made the same move in a Uhaul and all of her stuff got here and was in one piece. I'm sorry but if ""professional movers"" cant make the same move that a 45 year old woman can, you shouldn't be in the business. more

By far the best Moving Company in America 11/15/2010

I found out a few years back, The Commander of the base I was stationed personally selects Carlyle Van Lines for all his moves. With that information we have been selecting Carlyle for years for every one of our PCS moves, and I could not be any happier. They are honest and dependable. They do a great job, in every area of the country we have been. That means they only surround themselves with the best local Agents, through years of experience and relationships, and it shows. There are a large number of moving companies approved for military moves and there is no doubt in my mind that Carlyle is the best for knowledge and quality. more

Horrible experience 8/8/2010

I was asked to sign a inventory sheet after all of my items had been packed. This was my first move and was under the assumption that this was soley an inventory list of my houshold items. Later I was informed that all of my items had been marked at soiled, stained, ect so that if they were damaged in transit Carlyle Van Lines would not have to pay the claim. I feel very mislead by this company! I would never recommend them. Some of the items they marked as soiled and stained were still in the original box that they were purchased in. I know that they had never been opened and inspected. Down right deceitful more
