Editorial review from Citysearch 7/29/2012

Love this place. The food is great the service is wonderful. The prices are also very good. If you are a wine lover with your own collection there is never a corking charge if you bring your own. The entrees have a vegtable on the side that makes it a complete meal. From the wonderful full bodied bread that starts you off to the wonderful deserts this is my number one place for dinner. They treat you like family there is no pretense, or stuffy waiters. We have never had to wait long for service or our meal, and his has been a frequent dinner spot for us over the last several years. more

Poor, slow service 2/18/2012

Hubs and I arrived a little after 6pm and were seated immediately on a Saturday evening, we did not have to wait for a table. A young man took our drink orders. We were both disappointed at the small wine and beer selection (no chianti by the glass in an Italian restaurant?) offered on the menu, so I ordered a water and hubs iced tea. A VERY LOUD ITALIAN man took our appetizer and entree orders at the same time. The caprese was just so-so, how can you mess up a slab of cheese on a slice of tomato? but the tomato was not ripe. We ate the app and after about 30 minutes we began to wonder why our food was taking so long to come out. We stopped waiters and the loud man 3 separate times to ask what was taking so long for our entrees. Each time we were told, its coming right up. Our meals did not come out until a FULL HOUR after we ordered. The food was good, nothing special however. I got the chicken piccata and hubs the atlantic salmon. We wondered if they ran out of salmon and had to run out and buy some, but with the Fresh Market next door that was no excuse to wait an hour. We were never told why it took so long and no apologies were given. We were asked if we would like to order dessert but declined, as by that point we would barely make it to our movie in time. We were presented with the full bill and a $10 off coupon to use next time. HA! Did they honestly think there will be a next time? more

well worth the money 3/14/2011

Everything, starting with appetizer, entree, dessert and wine is well worth the money. This place lacks in decor and wine selection but I will go spend $100 for full course dinner for two. more

Authentic Italian Food from a Family-Run Restaurant 12/18/2010

The food and the atmosphere of Capri was fantastic! The place is family-run by a guy who is actually from Italy, so he knows what he's doing. The servings are very liberal, so be prepared to take some fantastic pasta home with you. It is a little pricey, so be prepared to spend a little, but the food makes it worthwhile. more

Very disappointed Qu 5/22/2010

After reading of the rave reviews I was very interested in trying this place out. I have lived in parts of Europe including Italy so I know what authentic food tastes like. The food not only didn't taste authentic it wasn't good. I didn't even finish my dinner and my husband got the special which was better than mine but definitely not worth $21.00. Our waiter made sure we had water but really seemed like he wanted to be somewhere else. This was the most disappointed i have been at a restaurant in long very long time. Cons: Quality of food, price for what you get more

Best Itilian Restaurant in Raleigh 12/27/2009

I have eaten in many restaurants all over the world, and have been impressed enough by the service to make a comment on only a select few. Dino, the owner of Capri, takes personal service to a new level. He always remembers your name when you come in and makes you feel like you are a guest in his home. The food is outstanding, and the desserts are top shelf. Save room for the tiramisu!!!! This restaurant has become a ""go to"" for a guaranteed excellent meal and relaxing start to any evening.. Pros: Customer Service more

Lovely meal; Personable warm service and atmosphere. 11/3/2009

I travel and have not taken the time to rediscover my own neighborhood restaurants. It was time to ""re-discover"" Capri.\r \r When you enter the restaurant, the deep red walls, tasteful artwork and white table dining make the room itself feel balanced and elegant without being overwhelming. \r \r When you enter the restaurant , you know this is a restaurant where not only will you be able to enjoy the food, but you can hear your conversation if you are there with a business associate, friend, significant other, or with a group. I witnessed folks there greet regulars with a personal touch. A couple with a well behaved child arrived. They were greeted warmly and their child ran to say hello :). A gentleman awaiting his wife was seated and the table prepped - even with a candle :) for her arrival. For me, diniing alone, a convenient table was chosen, and as it was a lighter evening (it is Tuesday) lovely conversation made while awaiting the food. \r \r Bread arrived first and butter was at a perfect temperature for spreading on the bread. \r \r I ordered the Grouper Picatta. It arrived nicely cooked with a delicate flavor. The capers just enough added to the flavor without overwhelming the essence of the fish. The sauce just enough. The fish moist. The broccoli and carrots, separate served on the plate were cooked and seasoned well with a flavor almost reminicent of a hint of dill. The broccoli still had a crunch and was not overcooked nor undercooked. In addition, it is not easy to get carrots cooked so that they are easily sliced but not ""overdone."" That was also mission accomplished. The house chardonnay was a nice accompaniment to the meal. \r \r Like another reviewer, I found that the tiramsu was an unexpected treat to accompany dinner. The presentation is different as it presented ""flatter"" than taller, but don't let that deceive you. The portion was generous and the flavor comes with a mousse that glides with flavor across your tastebuds. The cocoa powder just right over the top and a few well placed and nicely stripes of chocolate syrup. (again nothing overdone). Again, think ""delicate."" All parts of the meal were far from bland; they were spiced with delicacy.\r \r Finally A lovely expresso followed dinner. And then it was time to depart. \r \r One helpful note: I was told they can also substitute chicken for the grouper :) if wanted for a meal. Nice to know substitions can happen if needed. \r \r It is going to be fun to return and try other dishes. I also discovered that they hold wine tasting dinners - something to consider if you are out and about for a 3rd Wednesday of a month. ( I believe that's the day.)\r \r Thank you gentlemen for a lovely meal! I look forward to dining with you again soon. Pros: Food, service, and atmosphere more

Great family run italian bistro worthy of a chance if you haven't already been there! 11/30/2008

Just got around to trying Capri after seeing it numerous times now that Fresh Mkt moved next door.\r The entrance is a bit deceiving as the actual restaurant sits through a corridor (it is in the corner of a strip mall).\r The inside looks like a basic family owned and run bistro - charming though.\r We didn't get to meet Vino or Pino, but I beleive one of thier sons or relatives waited on us.\r It was a slow night being the day after thanksgiving, and I'm sure the place is run like a tight ship on normal occasions - however it seemed a little on the relaxed side when it came to service attentiveness.\r However - I will say they try hard when you do have their attention - and that brings my respect.\r \r The menu, variety and prices are fantastic. The wine menu has just enough variety - although I myself would prefer a larger selection. most wines that I looked at were in the 45-50 range of a list that was maybe 20 deep? \r \r Food taste was fantastic. You can absolutely tell you are eating home cooked Italian food. Loved it. We will be back again mostly for the food! However we also love having a small bistro type of home run (non chain) italian restaurant neary by. We'll be back for sure.\r \r Try it out!\r \r Pros: Food, family run, prices, and atmosphere Cons: None I can think of... more

The nicest surprise, great food great service great time. 11/29/2008

Went there last night (Saturday Nov 29th) Service was great, much better than some of the five star resturants I have been to.The food was excellent, prices were good. Music was just right , not to loud but very relaxing. I will go back again and again.\r Only thing I can say waas not great was the house red wine, nothing special but the food made up for it. The atmosphere was very nice and I would take family there and also I would go there for a romantic evening\r UPDATE\r \r Went there again on a Friday night when there was a wedding taking place so we choose to eat outside because the inside was wedding guest. We had the best service and we had the best meal ever. Prices were great and we have decieded to make this place our regular Friday night dining experience. \r We were treated with such good service even though the staff was very busy with the wedding going on inside. If no one told me about the party inside I would not have known any better because ...and I know I am dwellign on this but service was top notch.\r My guess is this is one of Raleighs best kept secrets. Pros: Everything was wondrful... Both visits more

The Pino & Dino Show 9/14/2008

We've been eating there since about 2004, but this is my first review.\r \r Now open more than eight years, this tiny Italian star finally shines even brighter due to a long overdue building facelift. The Sutton Square shopping center (corner of Spring Forest and Falls of Neuse roads) has had the entire exterior refurbished, and Fresh Market now anchors the spot where Harris Teeter once was. The combination of more traffic and higher visibility (Capri was lost: stashed away in a gloomy corner), has led to the best summer in years for this North Raleigh favorite.\r \r Part of the fun of Capri is the floor show, and by that I mean ""The Pino & Dino Show"". These two Italian transplants, friends for decades, twirl about the room, joking and charming all who will listen. \r \r I typically can't wait to order the carpaccio: thin slices of raw premium beef atop a salad with huge shavings of parmesan, capers and walnuts. On this outing, however, the beef was sub-par and by the time I had finished, I had five small clumps of un-chewable fat on my plate. \r \r A special chicken breast stuffed with prosciutto, cheese, spinach and peppers was very good. But, the chicken cacciatore was even better: golf-ball sized pieces, each lightly breaded and sauteed in olive oil, served in a rich red-brown sauce of onions, mushrooms, peppers and sausage slices. It was the best I've ever had. I'm also very glad I ordered a side of rigatoni with Capri's dynamite vodka sauce (they should bottle that stuff!).\r \r Tiramisu arrived without us even mentioning it, and a magnum of house wine stayed on our table the entire meal. \r \r Total: $109 for two and all the wine we could drink (tax and tip included). It's surprisingly more than we've spent in the past at Capri, and I'm afraid we didn't closely examine the bill before paying. Perhaps they charged us for the entire bottle?\r \r Note: they serve only beer and wine and the setting is not luxurious. Cons: no liquor more

One of the best Italian restaurants in Raleigh 5/22/2008

The menu is authentic Italian - you won't find meats in your pastas (few exceptions of course); portions are generous but not overwhelming. Bread is as bread should be in an Italian restaurant. You can't go wrong with the menu. The service is slow when compared against American standards, but the owners are from Italy, and they treat your visit there as an experience. Don't expect to whip in and out of this restaurant. It's a place to savor. I recommend the seafood ravioli. It was a delicious. The spaghetti marinara was great also as was the bruschetta. The tiramisu was the best that I ever had outside of Italy. I'll be going back again veyry soon! Pros: food is fresh; menu authentic; desserts and coffee delicious; great atmosphere Cons: none really although getting the check can take some work :) more

A great little Italian restaurant with homemade Italian cuisine and great customer service 8/15/2007

The Capri Italian Restaurant is a delightful surprise in North Raleigh. Tucked away in the corner of a shopping center off of Falls of Neuse and Spring Forest Roads, is a gem of a find, starring the two owners, Pino and Dino, who are also your host and servers (and I might add, they are very entertaining as well, with their lively chatter and singing). I felt like I was in Italy. We were greeted warmly by Dino, he showed us to our table, brought us wine and water and went over the chef's specials. He said he would make sure I had everything I wanted...of course I asked for a foot rub...and he said he would be happy to accommodate. What a trip. It's all homemade Italian cuisine, reasonably priced and affordable, featuring Italian bread (made daily), pastas, veal, chicken, chops and the best Tiramisu I have experienced since eating at Delmonico's in Washington, DC. Capri Restaurant has a non-smoking environment, family dining, as well as romantic venue. Beer and wine is available, with an extensive wine list of fine wines. Capri Restaurant has a wine tasting 5-course dinner every third Wednesday of the month for $40 per person. I highly recommend the Capri Itaian Restaurant for authentic melt-in-your-mouth Itailan cuisine, an evening of good friends and laughter. Ask Pino about his special seasoning mix that can be purchased at the restaurant and watch out for the little dish of red hot peppers. GO see Dino and Pino! Pros: Great food, dessert, excellent customer service, ample lit parking, neighborhood friendly Cons: Hidden in the corner of the shopping center more

A great find 6/25/2007

WOW! In Raleigh on a business trip, we were treated to this hard to find but truly outstanding Italian experience. The two owners, Dino and Pino could not have been more accomodating to make the evening a real delight. We each chose a different entree and everyone raved about the meal. Pino's understanding of Italian wine was an added surprise. It may be a little difficult to find, tucked away in the corner of the shopping center, but it was truly worthwhile. Being from St. Louis, where we pride ourselves on the numerous Italian restaurants ""on the Hill"", this would match up to any of them. It is now added to my list of sure things as I travel on business. more

Just OK 3/31/2007

After reading all the great reviews maybe we were expecting too much. The night we went, there was a party going on that spilled over into main aisle. This did not add to the experience. Service was so so until there was a change in waiters and it picked up after that. The food was good, although, in my opinion, a bit over priced. We both ordered the shrimp scampi and for $16 we each got 6 shrimp, 6 carrot slivers and 6 brocolli flowers. Oh yes, we added a salad prior to the entre for an additional $7 each. We did notice the owners or managers doting on some tables so presumed they were regulars. They didn't come to our table. So, if you are a regular, I can understand your loyalty. If you're not, I doubt if you become one. We won't. Pros: Taste of food was good. Cons: Ambiance, Value more

Authentic Italian food 1/24/2007

Capri is the best Italian restaurant in the area. As soon as you walk in you are greeted by Pino and Dino. They make you feel right at home. It is definitely a place where you can sit back, relax and enjoy your food.\r Every dish that I have tried is wonderful. Try the stuffed chicken breast. more
