Great Coffee, Irritating Service 8/19/2007

I have so tried to love this place because they have such coffee. After yet another incident when the youthful help (who pull great shots) chatted with a client for a long time about personal matters with a line building, allowed someone to cut into line and fumble with their money and discuss work out an order that should have been done beforehand, interrupted my order in progress when their focus switched--or stared vacantly into the air when they had nothing to do and I standing, money in hand, hoping to order my scone, pay, and sit down when the coffee came--I have had to declare myself a compulsive doer--not suited for such casual service. They mean well, the coffee is great, the atmosphere (once you struggle through the line) is wonderful. But, this level of disorganization comes off as rude for someone who hopes to have a leisurely cup of coffee before the bus arrives or a Flexcar reservation time arrives. more

Build it--they will come... 6/9/2006

The Queen Anne Fiore has been open only a few months but has slipped right into place in the neighborhood. Who knew we always needed a coffee place in exactly that spot? Despite being only a couple of blocks from maybe 7 other coffee shops on QA Ave, it is always well-populated (so you can interact with other humans if that's what got you out of the house)--but not overcrowded (there always seems to be a free corner where you can sit with your coffee and toast and read your newspaper in peace). Plenty of south-facing chairs outside too--so any little bit of sun we have can be enjoyed on nice days. Another reviewer dissed the pastries; I think this Fiore (don't know about the Crown Hill one) has one of the better selections on QA hill with items from Essential and several other worthy places. and TOAST. Good bread = good toast. It's a tad more expensive than some but if you're already paying two or three bucks for a cup of coffee what's a few cents more for organic fair trade beans and really nice baristas? (they even refilled my coffee for free when I spilled a full cup running for--and missing--my bus!) The mix is a comfortable melange that seems slightly more diverse than QA usually feels--stay-at-home moms and little kids, serious-looking hipsters with their laptops, business types having business-type meetings, dog-walkers, middle-aged girlfriends catching up, students, guys on break from construction jobs in the neighborhood--a range of ages and styles. All are welcome. You can even share my table. and did I mention the toast? more

Care for coffee and a slower pace 6/9/2006

Caffe Fiore and their awesome staff pour beautiful shots layered with creamy crema and lattes with not a milk bubble in sight. What I love about Fiore is that they don't feel the need for rushing people in and out. They aren't slow, but at the same time they like to take the time to catch up with their customers and pour delicious coffee. It's nice that they have decided to forego wi-fi in the Ballard location in favor of neighborhood conversation at the common table. If they had a little more seating, it would be perfect. more

Cafe Fiore 4/30/2006

Cafe Fiore represents what a coffee house in Seattle should be. It has the soul that Starbucks lacks. The Queen Anne location is roomy and often on weekends people camp out with books and laptops (often a mac to boot). Their organic free trade coffee (yes, all of the right buzz words) comes from Vita. However, I often I find that its not the source of the coffee thats good, but the baristas since its how the shot is pulled. The coffee is complex and creamy, they also know how to poor correctly since you get that leaf pattern. There is no bitter after taste to their coffee which I often find with Starbucks. They are very committed to selling organic products, which means Might O Donuts and Essential Baking Company pastries (who by the way use biodiesel to fuel there delivery trucks). I love walking to Fiore on weekends. I like that there are only two locations, it keeps their integrity. I don't go often enough, but it seems that they know their regulars by name and of course drink. Plus its close to Trader Joes so you can grab a cup of coffee before or after shopping. more

Hidden Away in Crown Hill 4/23/2006

It's great to have a 15 min wait between buses when Fiore is open because I love getting drinks from there. Organic coffee, Morning Glory Chai, and there's usually an adorable dog outside. It's very Seattle at Fiore, which is why I like it so much. Community-centered, friendly, and eco...is there anything more to life? Too bad the restaurant next store never looks open... more

Love it 3/17/2006

Such a great neighborhood place. I really love the coffee---never bitter, very smooth and the baristas are fabulous and always remember my drink. more

Espresso & The Beach. 12/30/2005

Just up the hill from beautiful Golden Gardens park you'll find this cute triangle shaped neighborhood coffeeshop where 85th Street ends. Always hopping on weekend mornings, this is a great place to hang out AND get a great cup. Fiore is somewhat legendary... almost up there with Vivace in fact. Barista's seem pretty nice, place is generally clean, and they have a big round table so you can actually have an excuse to meet someone new or talk with neighbors. I wish i still lived in ballard... more
