Editorial review from Citysearch 9/17/2012

Had a great time with my family. Giant get together with my friends and family turned out fantastic. I wanted to have hookah but my wife voted against it. I ordered wine, appetizers, hummus, kabobs and even danced with my kids. Really cool experience. Right next to UCLA. more

A++ Experience from Beginning to End 9/17/2011

Byblos is THE BEST place to have a wedding reception, or any event!!! My husband and I had our wedding reception here on July 9, 2011, and this was the greatest decision we could have ever made! We looked at least 10 different venues, including luxury hotels, and country clubs, but when we came to Byblos we knew this would be the best decision, especially because Amgad, the owner of Byblos was extremely accommodating and easygoing with everything. He made the menu exactly how we wanted, and even researched new foods and flavors until we were happy with the dinner menu. It was a full-course meal with cold hors d'oeuvres, hot hors d'oeuvres, a plated dinner entr more

Horrible Experience with Owner of Byblos! 1/17/2011

We were invited to an engagement party at Byblos Saturday night along with another 50-70 family and friends. The DJ played all the right music and the two waitresses worked hard. The food was bland and over-cooked. Most importantly however, was that the owner, who has no clue in running a restaurant/club or any sense of customer service, turned the night into a DISASTER. Apparantly, one of the young guests brought in a drink from outside of the restaurant, so the owner went ballistic and started searching under everyone's seats for open containers and went through gift bags looking for alcohol. He did this without anyone's CONSENT! HOW OUTRAGEOUS! He came upon a gift bag which was sitting under the table with a CLOSED and Gift Wrapped congratulatory bottle in it along with an envelope with money. While the gift-bag's owner was at the bar buying a round of drinks (highway robbery: tequilla shots cost $15 and beers were $12), the Byblos psychotic owner ""CONFISCATED"" the gift bag along with its contents. When confronted about him taking away the gift bag, the gift wrapped bottle and the envelope,"" he responded he only took the bottle and dumped it in the sink because it was alcohol! This was a closed gift wrapped bottle to be given as a gift, but that didn't matter to this idiot. He went on to scream ""its my restaurant, I can do whatever I want."" When asked to return the gift bag and the envelope with the money, he repeatedly denied taking the gift bag or the envelope in the gift bag. When he was pressed over and over and we suggested to have the surveillance film reviewed, he finally CONFESSED that he did take the gift bag to throw it out! We demanded the bag and all of its contents be returned to us. He became vulgar and he called the entire party (most are professionals or successful businessmen) derogatory terms. While we could have called the police to handle this matter since this was a wrongful taking of another person's property, we decided to pass since it was no more than a couple of hundred dollars. It was however an OUTRAGEOUS turn of events. You would think after a large group dumps thousands of dollars into one night and the rediculously high bar tabs we all ran that this guy would show some decency. Noteworthy, other than our party, the restaurant had no more than a couple of other customers, probably because of this RUDE and IDIOTIC OWNER named Amgad. Others have expressed the same antics with this guy and all have sworn off this restaurant. Frankly, I would never return and I recommend to others to try other places like Carousel in Glendale, The Gate/Mirage in Encino, or Alcazar in Tarzana rather than chance running into this LOW LIFE at Byblos. more

Theft & Poor Food Quality! 1/16/2011

We had two occassions at Byblos in the past year where money and personal items were stolen by the staff there, including a theft made personally by the owner himself. Oddly enough he sort of fessed up to it saying it was an accident. The owner was rude and vulgar in trying to resolve the experience. On both occassions the food was horrible. This is consistent with the other reviews I've read. Needless to say our family and friends will no longer be patrons of this horrible establishment. It is truly an unsafe and doesn't have the staff necessary to provide quality service and food. more

It is all about management! 5/3/2010

I uesd to work there with a positive attitude since it was under new management. The new owner has no clue on how to treat customers or make them come back, he has no experience in this business at all, food very bad.. he had to change the chief 3 times in 6 month since he is paying low under the table and getting ""hot dog stand food handlers"" to run his filthy kitchen!\r he smokes ciggarrettes every single minute inside the place not caring for others or laws!\r More than one time he got so drunk and lost control and had fest fights with customers!\r The bar serve Alckohol after 2 Oclock even to minors not caring of loosing the license by the order of the owner himself not caring either for the bartender refusal everytime!\r The entairtainment is not great except fot the talented DJ Niles who the owner does not like if he is not in the room because a waitress loves him and he does not!\r There is a lot to warn you about but this is enough to keep you going to this place! Pros: Great location.. bad management! Cons: Never go there! more

Oh please oh please don't waste your night here!!!!!!! 4/17/2010

I feel pretty bad to bave spent my Birthday here! I had once been to Byblos 4 years ago, but that was on a special promoted night, it was good...back then. NOT ANY MORE!! It's now under new management and it may as well close down! They lied to me on the phone saying the night was going to be pretty busy, and they had booked in 70 people already! ALL LIES! My party arrived, and the place was EMPTY at 10pm!, there was nothing I can do, If I came alone, if it wasn't my birthday I would have left in a flash! What a trap! CLOSE DOWN BYBLOS! The hummus tasted cheesy and grosss, the food was well below average for middle eastern food! Pros: good singer Cons: food, service, ambience more

Worst ""customer service"" I have ever encountered!!!!!! Avoid at all costs! 1/5/2008

If I could give this establishment a ZERO rating, I would unfortunately, 1 star is the minimum!!!\r \r Had a horrible experience here, and was only there for no more than 10 minutes. To be fair, I did not try the food, so this review only speaks to service. Arrived and the police were there. Stood at the hostess stand for at least 5 minutes, meanwhile the manager and wait staff were walking around and definitely saw me (I waved to the manager and he waived back). After NO ONE paid us any attention, I walked over to the manager where he waved me off and rudely said ""I'm busy here."" Left very angry, after which the manager called to ""apologize"" (I'm sure because I told him I would be writing a very negative review). There would be no need to apologize if he had treated customers with respect to begin with. Will NEVER go back!!! Cons: Service, service, service more

Make sure you wear a collared shirt!!! 1/19/2007

We made a reservation for a Friday night at 7pm. When we arrived, the restaurant was completely empty. The host informed us of the ""semi-formal"" dress code, which meant men had to wear at least a collared shirt. He told us we could stay and eat, but if anyone else came, we would have to leave. We are still in disbelief that an empty restaurant would turn away two very nicely dressed people..... more

i love it but the management suckssssss!!!! 1/6/2007

ok so as i said management is bad but i love the music its my life!!\r \r :)\r \r and they know me there so whenever i walk in they play my song and they even let my 15 yr old daughter sit at the bar.\r \r The owner likes us but they have attitude problems. Pros: musicccccccccc Cons: management waiters more

Probably the worst service ever... 5/22/2006

I've been to many restaurants....and I've received better service at Jack in the Box! The rudest, most useless waiters I have ever met! Band was great, dancer ok - shame the service ruined the place completely. Pros: The Band Cons: Service, Food, Service more

Not like what I accepted! 4/12/2006

I think its not worth to spend the money there.. Food was okay I cook better. Dancer's were fat and they dont know really how to dance, maybe I should go there and teach them how to dance and cook.. hehehe. Thank you much more

not worth the trip or the money 10/4/2005

First they sat us at a table that was small enough for two glasses of wine, waithed for at least an hour for a glass of water and our food arrived 4 hours after we arrived. really expensive for nothing. Dr. Ghattas Cons: service, service, service more

User review by hmkilani 8/22/2005

I was there to have dinner with my husband on our 2nd Anniversary , it was the best time ever, very romantic place, warm and classy, great belly dancing show, top quality food, the service was great and friendly, I really recommend this place for any evening and for special events. more

Dont Go There 1/26/2005

I went there with a couple of friends, first they charged us a cover charge of $40 each, and they serve food enough for one person. If you are going there for dinner you are better off sitting on two seperate tables to get your money worth. They also charge 18% gratuity on every check, even 1 person, and they expect you to pay more gratuity.. in fact if you don't pay attention you will end up paying tips twice. The music is sooooo outdated, and the dancers are sleazy, and oh yeah I forgot very very old!!! Pros: food Cons: service, price more

Fun place 12/7/2003

The food at this restaurant was really good and the ambience is great if you are in the mood to celebrate. This is not a place to have a romantic dinner...more of a place to go with a group of friends. Everything is served family-style. I went there on a Saturday night and there was a live band and a group of 4 dancers...they didn't do any belly dancing, but they danced and it was entertaining. Everyone is free to dance to the live band...and they most certainly do!! Great place to party... Pros: Fun, Good food Cons: Parking, Loud more

Byblos Is The Best Mid-East Restaurant! 6/26/2003

Byblos is a beautiful and great restaurant which serves excellent Lebanese food and has a wonderful Lebanese band and a gifted belly dancer. The parking is great and the service and price is wonderful. Byblos is the best Mid-East restaurant in Los Angeles. Pros: resonable price, great service, not crowded Cons: music too loud more

Fine Mediterranean Dining 10/9/2002

My first experience at Byblos was truly enjoyable. I was greeted by friendly and warm staff members who told me that the restaurant had recently gone through a major remodelling. The neutral decor gave a nice air of ambience. The setting was perfect for my date and I, but I also noted that there were many larger groups there as well, making for a great place for celebrations. They had a great wine list and a full bar. We were first presented with a wonderful, plentiful, array of mediterranean appetizers. Just when I thought I could not eat another bite, a wonderfully gorgeous aroma came towards my table. I somehow found room for a wonderful kabab entree. They also had a very unique gift shop featuring CDs and Mediterranean collectibles. I can't wait to visit again on a weekend when they have live music and belly dancers. more
