5 Stars for Ted Drewes 8/21/2006

Ted Drewes rocks. The fact is that I can't order an "All Shook Up," without singing "uh huh huh" and raising my lip to look like Elvis. (An All Shook Up is a banana and Reese's peanut butter cup concrete at Ted Drewes and it is by far my favorite), and for some reason that makes me really happy. I think Ted Drewes brings out the kid in all of us, and while, IMHO, there are better frozen treats to be had (shaved ice over ice cream in Kauai, Hawaii), you'd be hard pressed to find a better quick dessert experience in St. Louis. I have wowed many a friend from out of town with the Ted Drewes phenomenon. As one poster correctly pointed out, the hype gets pretty big, but if you simply don't pump it up too big and instead let your guest discover the magic on his or her own it will never failed to please. more

Too sweet. 7/22/2006

I'm definetely not a fan of Ted Drewes. I admit it, everyone hyped it up so bad, I expected it to be the frozen nectar of the gods. My teeth hurt just thinking about the frozen custard. The cool part is that they can mix a zillion different things into a concrete, or make a sundae, but the sweetness of the custard itself is too much for me. I much prefer frozen yogurt, or even the lighter ice cream bases at Coldstone. If my St. Louis only had Ted Drewes, toasted ravioli and Imo's Pizza, I would die of starvation. Blah. more

Love it! 4/24/2006

I absolutely love Ted Drewes! I don't get there often, as I live up by the airport, but did go there last Friday. I got the dutchman, a new one for me, and it was VERY good. Vanilla custard, chocolate and butterscotch sauce and nuts (I think pecans or walnuts). highly recommend it! more

I am a huge fan of Ted Drewes in St. Louis. My son use to live in St. Louis and we would always make the drive to Ted Drewe's during our visit. The lines at the windows are very long, so be patient. However, I think it is well worth the wait. I love the fox treat. It is raspberries and hot fudge mixed in with the custard. It is a little expensive, but well worth the money. more

SO GOOD 3/24/2006

I love Ted Drewes. There frozen custard is so good. Going there though is not just a matter of good ice cream, it is a family tradition for so many in St. Louis, waiting in the lines is nothing for those who truly enoy the entire experience. Making the trip from West County to TD's and listening to the Cardinals on the radio is summer at its very best for me. Since I've moved away Iget it whenever I get back to STL, in the meantime Ihave to make due with the prepacked custard sold at Walgreens and while it's delicious the experience is missing. more

Don't get it. 3/17/2006

Belive me, I live for ice cream, and custard is usually better in my opinion, but I just don't get what is so great about Ted Drewes. IMaybe I'm picky because the first custard I'd had was from Kopp's in Milwaukee (TO DIE FOR), but I don't care for the flavor of the vanilla at Ted Drewes. But maybe that's just me. Then, you have the fact that the lines are around the block in the summer and it's pretty expensive. Now that Culvers are popping up around St. Louis, I'd choose them over Ted Drewes any day. more

Ted Drewes 10/11/2005

Ted Drewes has been around for ever and everyone in and around St. Louis knows about it. They have great custard, but beware during the summer months. There lines can be so long!!! The prices are a little higher than most ice cream places, but well worth the extra cost. more

Landmark in St. Louis Everyone stops by Ted Drewes when they are in St. Louis. Great custard and known for their concretes. Also, during the Christmas season a place to purchase a beautiful tree and eat custard for the holidays. This is a tradition during the summer, you must go at least once. We stop there after the Muny. What a great ending to a night out. more

Ted Drewes is THE place to get ice cream in St. Louis. During the summer the lines are worth the wait, and it is definitely a hang out for St. Louis natives. Ted Drewes makes the best frozen custard around. I have never been disappointed. I love the concretes, and there are so many choices too! You can get concretes, malts, shakes, sundaes, cones and more. They even have specialties- like the great pumpkin! more

Famous in St. Louis, but really doesn't taste any better 8/27/2005

You will see long lines here, especially during the weekend evenings in the summer, but to be honest, I don't really think Ted Drewes custard is any better than some of the other custard places in St. Louis. And given that it's usually a huge hassle to get there (limited parking), and that the lines are really long, I don't think it's worth it. If you are in the area and want custard, then stop here, but otherwise, don't go out of your way and go to your nearest custard stand. Or better yet, just go get regular ice cream! more

A St. Louis Tradition 8/20/2005

A weekend night at the movies, the Muny or the Cardinals isn't complete without a trip out Chippewa to Ted Drewes Frozen Custard. This St. Louis landmark is known as much for its crowds as its product. From kids in torn jeans and tank tops to couples in fine evening wear, they line up from the windows to the street for the sweet confection, either in cones or a stick-to-the-cup concrete. Great stuff, as just about everyone knows. more

If you haven't been to Ted Drewes yet, you should go now. Really. People all over the nation know about Ted Drewes and it's famous frozen custard. The menu incudes an assortment of imaginative and delicious concretes and the windows are staffed by an assortment of friendly college-aged kids. It's a summer tradition in St. Louis and a place you have to go to at least once. more

Ted Drewes is famous for its frozen custards. They have so many flavors. Hard to decide :P the line gets so long.. doesn’t matter if it’s cold, hot, raining outside.. the line is long.. practically all the time. It is great place to take friends and family. get there fast or u wont find a parking spot! more

Frozen custard during the summer and Christmas trees in the winter. What more could ask for. This place has the best frozen custard around. With lots of different flavors to pick from. This is truly a St. Louis tradition. But be prepared to stand in line, because it is always crowded. more

St. Louis Landmark 8/4/2005

Ted Drewes is definitely a St. Louis landmark, and for good reason. It is delicious. People stand in line outside in the snow and rain to get a famous concrete. There are so many options. In the winter there is also a Christmas tree lot with gorgeous trees! Ted's is always packed so be ready to wait in line, and there isn't anywhere to sit, but that's what tailgates are for, right? more
