FANTASTIC!! 7/30/2010

Had a GREAT time! music was awesome and consistent, not a bad song played. Bar staff made great drinks, a bit of a wait for drinks because they were so busy. Only speaking from the night i was there, i didn't see any sort of racism in this bar. all cultural groups were there and i didn't witness any issues regarding that. All around an AWESOME time, cant wait to go back! Pros: Strong drinks, great crowd Cons: floors a little sticky more

RACIST!!!!!!!! 2/21/2010

I hate to think racism occured but I have my reasons. First things first, I called to set up my birthday party, I should mention that I tend to sound like what would be considered as having a "white girl" voice. They connect me to the manager and the party is arranged. VIP area is booked for my party and 10 of us were supposed to buy 2 $30 bracelets for drinks for 3 hours. Everything was set up, I called an hour before ai got there to confirm. When we arrive at the door, suddenly they don't remember having a party for my name. They call the manager I spoke with to come up, he sees me says he'll be right back. We waited for about 15 minutes outside nothing happens. We end up paying the entrance and I go to try to find the manager. He says gather your party and I'll meet you by the coatroom. We wait and no one shows up. We eventually gve up donated to the haiti fund for the drink deal and I go to search for the manager. I asked him about my VIP seating. Appartly the entire area is occupied by two people when it was originally arranged for me. We didin't let that get in the way. Signed up for Kareoke, 13 ppl in front of us...ok... We wait and I notice several "white" groups who I seen sign up after me get to sing first....so we go to the dance floor. Drunk white girl obsessed with the stripper pole beings a fight gets her ass pushed to the ground, her guy friends jump in, my friends jump in and of course, we get kicked out and the white b@@@@ sticks her fingers in the air laughing and gets to stay. Friends inside wo have nothing to do with the incident get kicked out for being seen talking to us earlier in the night. The white girl still in there dancing. The manager grabs one of the guys by his shirt to kick him out (he was not even near the fight or a anything). they guys asks what did I do, let go of my shirt, the manager pushes him towards the wall, grabs his wrists and the other security guards force him out grabbing him very inappropriately. The guy still confused about getting kick out gets mad cuz of the way their handdling him, he shoves them to let him go, manager hits him the guy hit him back and gets arrested. This is only half of it! This place sucks. No one they had a civil suit against them once before. DONT GO! I shouldve listened to the reviews but I had to find out the hard way.! I gave 1 star because 0 was not an option! Pros: NONE Cons: RACISM more

Most Definately RACIST... 2/20/2010

I truly wish we had ran across these reviews before we stepped into this place. Mind you.. $5 fee to enter, donated $5 to the "Haiti Fund" and STILL paid a rediculous price for WATERED down drinks. Three hours later we were escorted out/ over an incident that we tried to avoid... but somehow got caught in the crossfire... leaving us to fend for ourselves. Try that trash in a prodominately hispanic establishment... then again," WE have CLASS" and know how to act when we mingle with our "OWN". It's a crying shame to even see it in that perspective, however it was sadly proven last night. Secuirty is racist towards HISPANICS & AFRICAN AMERICANS! POINT BLANK!.. ===============STAY AWAY================== l'll give you one star ONLY because the music was good... more

Discriminatory pigs?? 2/20/2010

As we all know fights break out due to drunkenness and stupidity. If your girl cant handle her liquor, please be a man and take care of your dog. Group of friends out celebrating, Caucasian chick gets crazy drunk, pushes a friend and they start fighting. Self defense right? Or are you supposed to stand there and take it just because you are a bit darker toned then the other person? Then 5 guys accompanying this "lady" tries putting their hands on girls... Guess who gets kicked out? The luscious bodacious group of girls that were accompanied by gentlemen and military members who tired stopping everything and the Caucasians were allowed to stay in the bar. Not to mention security were also Caucasian who called the Caucasian cops to escort us out as if we were criminals! Ha! We are no longer is the 20th century suckers. Karma is in fact just like that crazy drunk..a b*&$h! Pros: Decent music, give them that Cons: Everthing else more

Who is gonna give me my 2 hours of my life back? 11/20/2009

Our first and last time...Drinks are overpriced and you get ZERO value for your buck, come on, I don't wanna get a glass full of ice. Might as well go to Walgreens across the street and buy a bag of ice and enjoy. Friday night and the place is empty, empty, empty, cuz no one wants to go to this crap hole. The bottom line is, its not worth your money and time. Who is gonna give me my 2 hours of my life back now? Lastly, paying $5 cover to get in is just ridiculous for this *hit hole. Hey Mr. Owner, you bar sucks. P.S. I was very generous when I gave it a one star, go figure. Pros: none Cons: A LOT more

Owners of Mothers Lounge, Chicago, IL 11/4/2009

OK, people bear with me because this is the first time I'm using this site. Now, regarding Mothers Lounge/Bar, Chicago, IL. Well, this bar has been the subject of numerous racial issues and their obvious complaints down through the decades. For instance, many of the young twenty somethings, many not even born during this instance, won't know that during the Chicago Bears Superbowl heyday that a Bears player had a big problem gaining entry; also, a Chicago Bulls Basketball player-during the period when the Bulls won the season championship, '95, had a similar problem with gaining entry. So, because of all of this down through the years one-and the media-should ask, just who owns this Mothers establishment!? Hm, who??? Most likely they are owned by the Chicago Mob, get it, the Syndicate, the Outfit do I make myself clear!? This is why business' such as these can do these type of things and actually still stay in business. Now, I have no proof of what I've just stated, nor do I really even know. But being a life long Chicago resident, born and raised, I would say I'm pretty much on the money. Also, this type of thing goes along with the current Mayoral Administration, ie. Daley. Want this to end Chicago, well, don't vote for Daley during the upcoming election; put his challenger in, whomever this person may be, just to shake things up. Change will come at that point, but not until. Later, L. D. Green Pros: None that I know of! Cons: Plenty! more

Racist Establishment 10/27/2009

Do not spend your money here. Let's stop racism in its tracks. more

bad club 10/27/2009

They are racist against blacks and latins. Any any people of color. So since they dont like color people. make sure they see very little of the color GREEN. Skin heads have fun. Pros: none Cons: One of Chicago's only racist clubs more

Racist? 10/25/2009

I heard this place is going under because theyre racist. Shame on them and I support those students that are suing! Pros: none Cons: discriminatory more

Avoid the racist management 10/25/2009

This place bars blacks. Ridiculous! NExt time I see the manager, I will run him over. more

Glad to see Jim Crow is alive and well at Mother's! 10/25/2009

I have had several poor experiences at Mother's before. Now that they have instituted an "WHITES ONLY" policy. I guess they won't have to worry about me spending another dime in this establishment. I look forward to the day I drive by and see this place closed. Pros: Poor Service and overpriced Spend your money elsewhere. Cons: Does Not Serve Black People more

WOW!!! 10/25/2009

Not for me. 10/25/2009

I haven't been here yet, but from the media and reviews, I would never go. Bunch of racist pricks. They should change the name to Mother's White Club and relocate to rural Alabama. Pros: none. Cons: everything. more

When is it going to stop?! 10/25/2009

Unfortunately, I'll never attend this establishment. Although, I may not make if passed the front door anyway. I'm very disappointed to see that racism still exist, especially coming from the hometown of our first Black President and First Lady. Pros: none Cons: Racist more

they don't like black people 10/25/2009

If it where possible I would not put even one star!!! Read the newspaper article and judge for your self! cnn/lt_ne/lt_ne/detail/388491 more

Not so great even if you're not black 10/25/2009

It's special because it's not very friendly, especially if you are an African American, based on what I am reading in the news. (Those Wash. U. guys were very smart to try out the experiment by switching baggy jeans between a black and a white classmate.) But getting beyond that, I must say that as someone who really likes Chicago and its various restaurants and nightclubs, I was surprised by the low standards of this place. Not very impressive, and given the recent events, not worth going out of your way to patronize. Just choose one of a million other establishments that are good and do not discriminate. (Unless, of course, you are a member of the KKK or skinheads. They would love this joint.) Pros: None Cons: Bad service, bad food, bad attitude more

boycott this bar 10/25/2009

It is disappointing to hear that blatant racism still takes place, even in a big city like Chicago. Anyone who works at this bar should be ashamed, and those who visit this bar should also. Patronizing this bar shows your support for their bigotry. Show that you support basic human rights by boycotting this bar. Pros: none Cons: Racist owners, managers, and bouncers more

Disgrace 10/25/2009

When the advertise that 80's iconic movies were filmed there, they don't say that they wish they were still in an 80's movie -- where racial minorities are relegated to the background. Pathetic. Pros: Location Cons: Blatant racism more

Why the hell would anybody go here in 2009? 10/24/2009

Mother's wasn't good enough for me when I was doing my college undergrad... and it shouldn't be good enough for ANYBODY in the 21st century. Bad architecture meets worst atmosphere and the dopiest bouncers grilling you to get in to the most pathetic club in the city of Chicago. I went to Exit for my birthday a couple of years ago and there were only four people there besides my party... and they were all bartenders. Yet Exit *still* had more class empty than Mother's will ever packed to the rafters with drifters that don't know any better. You'd have a better time at any bar in town with a big flatscreen TV on the day of a bears game than you would at this place. ...and that's being charitable. (Did I mention they have this thing about not letting blacks in, too? Just figured I'd throw that out there in case you needed ANOTHER reason not to go here.) Pros: It won't be around much longer. Cons: It's still there now. more

Editorial
  • The Scene
To enter, patrons walk downstairs through a menacing plaster mouth not unlike Monstro's in "Pinocchio." There's a good selection of beers on tap at the circular island bar, and the prices aren't bad considering the prime Gold Coast location. Separating this lounge from the disco is a large room that includes a pool table, coat check and gift shop, an air hockey table and a photo booth. It's a mainstream destination for a few locals sprinkled in with the mass of suburbanites and tourists.

    The Draw

In the disco it's a mix of everything from Janet Jackson to Van Morrison, which gets the dance floor crowd singing into their beer bottles like microphones. The free jukebox leans toward classic rock.
