Up until a year ago I did 75% of my own auto repairs. Unfortunately, a motorcycle accident changed all that and I had to find someone to do the work for me.
My custom truck sat for several months (while I was bedridden) and didn't sound very good. A mechanic friend of mine suggested Winston's as I informed him of my dilemma. I took it in for a tune-up, they looked at it for about 45 minutes and told me they wouldn't do a tune-up and why. Being satisfied with the evidence they provided, I agreed it would cause more problems then it would correct. I went home without having to pay for the time or the fluids they topped-off.
I called them the next day and informed them of my desire for a new engine. They quoted me a price and it was extremely competitive, as I had done a lot of research and already was prepared for an engine replacement. One thing that really put me at ease was how cooperative the guys were. Steve handled the initial paperwork with humor and politeness. Dave actually invited me to come look as he was working, or grab a wrench if I wanted and join him, noting my unease at the notion of someone doing the work besides myself. Kite was instrumental in keeping the communication flowing, locating the parts needed, and keeping the books. Dave's wife even drove me home (11 miles). A great show of teamwork!
I received my truck before they said it would be done (they worked 4th of July weekend to do this), they not only replaced the engine..., but they cleaned and painted the engine compartment too. Additionally they installed trick stand-offs for the high-performance spark plug wires they installed free along with the HiPerf spark plugs (free). All kinds of extras I won't mention. In total they did approximately $500.00 worth of work free. Partially due to the engine manufacturer quoting the wrong price, but Winston's stuck with the quoted price and ate the overage. As I was standing at the counter watching the three guys doing everything they could to get the price down to the quoted amount, without getting mad, without trying to talk me into something higher, without me having to say a word...all I could do was laugh and smile at their resourcefulness.
I have had the truck for it's 500 mile break-in period, I am extremely pleased and am getting ready to go back for my (free) fluid and filter change. I would and do recommend Winston's to anyone needing work, major or minor, on their vehicle.
The review before mine (seattleliz) should be taken with a grain of salt. Obviously the woman knows little about autos (same as her friend), and even less about tact.
Pros: Honest, personable, proficient, cost-effective, & timely.
Cons: I don't have more cars and money to keep them busy.
