Excellent Vet 12/20/2011

A smart, kind, wonderful vet; has taken care of my animals for years. Kept one sick puppy I loved going for long after she should have passed on, as well as the regular stuff for everyday well dogs. Even my dogs liked their visits here, well worth the parking hassle. You can know you are getting the best care for your friends. more

Reptile visit review 10/24/2011

After reading all the reviews, i decided to give them a shot. Its not too easy to find a real herp vet, and the one other reptile review on here was positive. The parking isnt easy, but manageable. The front desk staff was okay. I had read a lot of bad reviews on their customer service. I dont think they mean to be rude or standoff-ish. I think its more just the, get down to business attitude. Im not there to have special treatment for me, im more concerned with the attitude of the doctor and techs. They seemed thorough with their initial entrance questions about my leopard geckos past and present history. The other techs came out and were very sincere in their interest in the gecko. I was taken back right away after the initial intake. They gave me extra info on the species, the Dr. dorn came in, gave a fairly quick exam, instructed his techs on what was to be done, and they both were extremely helpful. I believe the one tech owned reptiles, so it was very easy to relate to him. He explained everything well, demonstrated what i was to do. They do encourage you greatly to call within a week to report back with any results or changes. And best of all the cost was very reasonable. I thought for a fecal test, 3 meds, and the visit i would be spending a lot...it cost about $100, having the initital visit being $51. I would go back to West Liberty Animal Hospital for my reptiles any day. Highly recommended. more

Great Vet, (mostly) friendly staff, bad parking 2/18/2011

I brought my kitten to this vet to be spayed and vaccinated and had a wonderful experience. I agree with the review below regarding the older woman who works at the front desk - she was rude and short with me as well. On the other hand, the vet techs and vet were awesome. They were all very nice and most importantly, my kitten loved them. Parking can be pretty wild there depending on the time of day, but they have a wide range of appointment times so this can be avoided. more

GREAT VET 4/5/2010

A super Vet with a great staff. Very good with Birds as well as other animals. Pros: See's birds too!! Cons: Traffic more

killed my hammy 3/31/2010

""Dr."" Dorn killed my hamster. I took Hammy in for mites. The medicine he gave me was for cats. I should've known right then and there not to trust this guy but I did. While my hamster was lying in my hand dying because his nervous system was shutting down I looked up the medicine he gave me. It kills mites by paralyzing them and eventually killing them. Not only that, but it was for a 5-15lb cat, and my hamster was only 1/2 a lb. He died in my hand gasping for air. That's not what my innocent little guy deserved. I will be filing a complaint with the local veterinarian board. Cons: does not know what he's doing more

They gave my rabbit a death sentence 2/23/2010

My rabbit has been sick for a month and nothing has been. They said they would leave medicine for her outside their office and when I got there, no medicine was to be found. They called me on monday and said they forgot. I had records transfered to another vet and they could not believe that dr. dorn gave my rabbit no medication for her illness. He jumped right to surgery instead of trying other options. In the file for my rabbit, the doctor wrote down different medications he could try but did not mention them to me. He also said that my rabbit should not be medicated. He said she would not respond well. How would he know that if he did not try anything? Had I not gone to another vet, my rabbit would probably be dead. Pros: nothing Cons: everything more

Awesome Vets 1/2/2010

I needed to take my iguana to a vet and they were the only ones that treat lizards. They took care of ""Baby Guana"" with kid glove. I am very pleased with the service that I received from Dr. Dorn and the associates that work there. I would definately recommend them to all herp owners!!!!!!! Pros: Great with lizards more

Best vet I've ever used. 3/23/2009

Dr Dorn saved my cat's life more than once. He's been our family vet for almost 20 years, I trust him, he knows my animals, and he's a very clear explainer. If you ask for an estimate BEFORE the services, the techs will work it up and explain it thoroughly--and they suggest it themselves more often than not so the client can make a good decision. When a pet dies, they're wonderfully sensitive, attend to the needs of the animal AND the family, and follow up with condolences. I am very grateful to Dr Dorn and the staff, and will continue to bring my animals to him and recommend him to friends and family. Pros: Best vet in town. Cons: No complaints from here. more

They were good 12/31/2008

I will tell you now that when you show up you question yourself ""Where am i going to park?"" The parking is bad but the staff at WLAH is very nice. I went in because my rodent was very sick and all of them were extremely helpful. I waiting for a good 45 minutes in the room while they took x-rays and they seemed to be rushed but they did infact help my rodent and thats all that matters to me. Pros: They helped my pet Cons: The parking and they seemed rushed more

Never Taking an Animal Here Again 12/14/2008

At first glance, they seemed like a caring clinic for my ferret Bandit. However, she came down with a fatal disease that 2 vets before this missed, and WLAH found. This was the positive point, but it took a turn for the worse when they did practically nothing for her disease in house. She was experiencing the worst part, and it took me all of 10 minutes to not only identify her symptoms on google, but find that once a ferret is that bad, typically a clinic will take them in and monitor their health until they get better, I was given a handful of meds for her to take at home, in which she did, right on schedule, however home treatment was not enough and she passed away the next day. No one at the clinic seemed to even make a big deal out of her being that sick. Cons: Ferret Treatment more

Very Knowledgable 7/30/2008

I've been taking my 3 Shar Pei to Dr. Dorn since 2005. He is VERY knowledgable about the breed, and he also knows what he doesn't know. That is, if he doesn't know what is ailing your pet, he will recommend tests and do research. He doesn't guess or pretend that he knows each and every illness that might afflict a dog. He is also willing to refer you to a specialist when necessary. Case in point - my female needed eye surgery to correct entropian. Dr. Dorn admitted that he is not an eye specialist and recommended one to perform the surgery. Knowing your limitations is a sign of a real professional. Pros: Great vet, excellent vet techs Cons: Small waiting room more

Good pet care, somewhat dubious customer service. 1/15/2008

I recently took my cat in for a check-up. The Dr. on duty was fine, and I thought that the health care was adequate. I also felt they liked animals, and while that might sound like an odd thing to note, that isn't always the case. Pros: Nice staff Cons: Parking, receptionist more

Dr. Dorn is a good vet. My family has been with his practice for years. 10/29/2007

We've been going to Dr. Dorn for years with all of our pets - dogs, cats, birds. He is genuinely caring and treats all animals and their owners with respect. They feel like an old-fashioned family doctor. When my dog was dying from a heart ailment, they took us right away. Animal medicine is not any more exact than human medicine. In some cases, no matter how hard you try, you can't save their life. Every day they live with the results of bad breeding and puppy mills. My sister's shelter cat was recently very ill and they bent over backwards to try to diagnose and treat her. When all they tried failed and they determined she had a fatal virus common in shelter cats (undiagnosable except by eliminating everything else), they even encouraged her to take the cat for a second opinion before deciding to put her down. Other vets might have continued to take my sisters money, knowing she wasn't going to get better. They were ethical and kind every minute. We take our puppy there now and she loves him. He mentioned all of the weaknesses in the breed and what to look out for without me even asking. I highly recommend Dr. Dorn. Pros: Very loving, respectful, not rushed Cons: Parking, hours, probably slightly higher cost than some more

Highly Recommend This Vet 9/12/2007

My experience has been excellent. I moved to this part of town a couple years ago and Dr. Dorn was highly recommended by staff in multiple pet stores, particularly for avian care. While this office does appear quite busy, I've never had difficulty reaching them and have always been able to get timely appointments when I've suspected my pets were ill. In fact, I was once offered an appointment ""as soon as I could get there"" which would have been about 9 p.m., after normal office hours. I've also found them to be reasonably priced compared to other local vet offices. more

A great Vet 8/15/2007

I've been taking my pets to Doctor Dorn for 7 years! I think it is absolutely preposterous to consider Dr. Dorn an disreputable veterinarian. Anyone who has met him, can't think of any adjective short of "" great""! After reading some of theses reviews, the only word i can think of is "" bizarre"". someone mentioned that they couldn't get an appointment with Dr.Dorn for their sick puppy! If you call Your Physician and tell him u think your dieing and need to come in right away, he is going to say "" In your best interest you should go to an emergency hospital, considering I am a family practitioner and may not necessarily have the resources you will be in need of"". My vet , Dr.Dorn, is to my pets what my physician is to me. He is NOT an ER doctor! And as far as that women goes with her pet he allegedly killed...who says she isn't some wacko! I'm sure he tried as hard as he could to save her dog, but like all Doctors studying different types of medicines, he is not god! For all we know, that dog could have been 20 years old! so don't be so quick to judge someone you never even met, Mr. unprofessional. As a final note, i have a 8 year old yellow lab, that is the love of my life, i would never put her in the hands of someone i do not trust. I also own an African Grey, which is a parrot, and guess who every vet in Pittsburgh referred me too. Do you think they would send me to fraud, I didn't think so either! Pros: Very experienced/ caring veterinarian:Friendly/ personable staff : convenient location Cons: not an emergency hospital more

Dorn, David P, DVM - West LIberty Animal Hospital 2/7/2007

heard this vet was involved in a case where a dog died in his care in 2004. I feel he or any veterinarian who has been brought before veterinary board is guilty of bad judgement. So I wouldn't trust them with any of my pets. Cons: brought before veterinary board in 2004 more

Nice people, who know how to care for animals 12/17/2006

I have been going to West Liberty for a while and while I understand what the other user said about the phone correspondance, I think it is due to the fact that they are so busy during the day-you just need to keep calling. Plus for emergencies-there is another hospital they can refer you to. When you come in though, the doctor is great and he provides excellent animal surgery. I would check out this Vet~~he is good(and reasonably priced) Pros: service, costs Cons: parking more

Unprofessional 8/6/2006

This review is not based on the quality of the clinical care provided by this WLAH, but on their response to customers. I adopted a dog a few weeks ago and called WLAH to set up an appointment to see the pup as a new patient. A couple of days later, the dog became very sick, and I called WLAH leaving messages in their answering machine to call me back because the dog was sick and needed to be seen before the scheduled appointment. They never did. I took my dog to a different vet, Met Vet, who were prompt to respond and quite accomodating. Lo and behold! The day before the scheduled appointment, WLAH remembered we existed, and called to remind us of the appointment. When I replied to the secretary (or whoever called me) that I did not wish to continue working with them because of their unprofessional response to my phone messages, she simply said: ""Goodbye"" and hung up. The vets at WLAH might be the best in the World, but with the type of clerical help they seem to have at this point in time, I would NEVER take my pets to them. more
