Dr. Monroe has ruined the quality of our dog's life 10/14/2008

Our dog has had to suffer all of her nine years of life because of a botched spay surgery she had at the Vet's Pet. Dr. Kate Monroe did the surgery and never once apologized or offered any words of compassion about this situation. The quality of our dog's life has been greatly affected by the botched surgery and I actually could never express how guilty I feel for entrusting her care to Dr. Monroe - she was referred to us by a friend and she said all of the right things before the surgery. I had no idea what kind of a person she really is. It wasn't until the next day that I found out that the Vet's Pet didn't even have anyone stay with the animals overnight at the facility. That means that animals who have any kind of surgery or illness are left on their own for the night. Our dog was left alone after a surgery with no one to check on her for the whole night. She would have been safer, coming home with us. What made things worse was how Dr. Monroe and her staff treated us after the surgery. They were rude and basically accused us of lying. Even after we had proof on paper from our current vet that she left an ovary behind, there wasn't much we could do. Someone told me we should take her back to Monroe and have her remove the ovary but I would not trust her to do even a basic examination. So nine years later, we are still contending with the effects from that surgery. My dog still goes into heat, has pain and swelling the entire time and her overall health has been affected. Her current vet told us he could do an exploratory surgery to try to find the ovary but that it would be very hard on our girl and it would be best to just deal with her situation as is. He said he thought it would not be worth it to have her suffer more. No one can give us back these past nine years our pup has had to suffer and it breaks my heart. more

The Truth About Dr. Kate Monroe... 4/2/2008

She's always running late, and sometimes the (very pleasant) front desk isn't "hop to it." That aside (and really, who cares as long as the doctoring is excellent and your animal buddy is treated kindly?) I have been with Dr. Kate for 13 years, through old cats and young dogs and I have always found her involved, trustworthy and cognizant that however much we love our pets, our resources are limited at times and also that there are occasions when what we want for our pet and what is humane for our pet are not the same thing. What I'm saying is that in addition to excellent medical care, you'll also get solid guidance on what things will cost and Quality of Life issues. I have always found her fees to be more than fair, the care to be excellent, and the billing office willing to work with me when things were tight. If she can squeeze you in, by all means, this is the place to go. Pros: Great vet, nice staff, very clean office, parking is easy. Cons: Office could be prettier and bigger. Vet is usually running late. more

rude receptionist 6/26/2006

tried to get our little puppy checked out, and the receptionist was short with her answers and then simply said "we are not taking new clients" more

Amazing Vet 2/16/2006

Dr. Kate is an all around amazing vet. I have dealt with her concerning life threating health issues (including- cancer, obstructed bowel, and disfunctional heart vavles) to annual exams and vaccinations. She is always straight forward, her diagnosis are always dead on (in the beginning I got second opinions), and she never jerks you around with useless tests to pad the bill. With her you get a lot more that you pay for. If the surrounding staff seems lack luster (according to other reviews) it is only because she really shines. Pros: Great animal care, Dependable, Inexpensive more

Tried making an appointment here and was greeted with incomptent staff. Finally secured an appointment only to be notified they had to re-schedule which I did and then they called me later to ask me to reschedule again because they had forgotten they called earlier and failed to write down the change in their book. The next day (the day of the actual appointment) they cancelled completely. If you want incompetent service go here -- otherwise you and your pet deserve better. more

Excellent Pet Care 1/7/2006

I've taken my animals to Dr. Kate for many years and know that they are receiving the best possible care. She's excellent in emergencies and its only because of her that my cat survived and is thriving after being hit by an SUV. Also great with quality of life issues for older pets. I wouldn't go anywhere else. Pros: free parking, reasonable prices more

User review by super8z 10/23/2005

A very competent vet surrounded by inept, disinterested, seemingly underage staff. If you have lots of time to waste sitting in a chaotic waiting room and watch as the vet treats other animals with appointments after yours, this is the place for you. Like another reviewer, I too was never given a follow-up when I brought in my dog for ringworm testing. After two phone calls not returned, I've decided to take my business elsewhere. more

No Communication 10/17/2005

I took my cat to La Brea Pets for dental surgery. The vet did not meet with me post-op and, in spite of repeated requests, has not called to discuss post-op care and treatment with me. If you value information about your pet and it's care, I would not use this vet. Cons: No post-op interview, Unreturned calls more

SHE REALLY LOVES ANIMALS 6/8/2005

I've been taking my pet cat and my two yorkies to Dr Kate for about 5 years now and you can tell right off the start that she really loves animals. She does not give you the run around and she tells you everything in plain english no medical mumble jumble. She is very resonable and very dedicated. I am so happy I found her. She a keeper! Pros: inexpensive, good location, friendly staff more

Kate Monroe's the BEST! 11/25/2004

We've gone to Dr. Kate Monroe for over 10 years. She loves animals and is an awesome Vet. The only nearby experts with more talent are the 24 hour emergency hospital on santa monica near San Vicente and are way too expensive! Kate won't beat around the bush if the diagnosis is critical and she won't overcharge you with tests. She knows her craft and can really help you out! She does work way too hard and is often unavailable because of this. Her husband runs the LA Boxing shop right next door. Pros: GreatCustomer Service, Economical price, Proper Diagnosis more

Caring Vet 1/3/2004

The Vet cared for my cat as if it were her own. I felt very comfortable there and I think my cat did too! Pros: Good Parking, Reasonably Priced, Offers Insurance more

Helpful 9/3/2002

I finally found a place to bring my pets. The Veterinarian is super helpful, informative and in love with the animals. They sell and accept pet insurance. They are very convenient to working schedules. If your pet needs to undergo any procedure, you can drop your pet off in the morning and pick them up in the evening. more
