Well, maybe not that big, but I couldn't finish it--and I really wanted to.
What's perfect about Magnolia's is the price:quantity:quality ratio. Yes your steak (or lamb shank) is going to cost somewhere between $25 and $30. But the serving is almost enough for 2 meals, and includes a side or two. And they are able to do this without sacrificing the quality in regards to cut and taste.
I've been told that the chef here is a master at two things: chili and braising. I've sampled the braising (lip-smacking--but keep it in your head) but have yet to see chili on the menu. Apparently the chef participates in chili cook-offs. I can't remember his name, but if I find it, I will post it here in a comment.
The wine selection was good and includes some very decent ports.
I give the restaurant props for attempting the unique: one dessert I had was a lemon creme brulee. I'm glad I tried it but would not try it again; it didn't taste bad, just different.
I love interior as well; it has a light and lodgy feel to it--you could dress up or down and still feel right at home.
I've also heard the brunch is amazing but have yet to try it.
Located in the Uptown area, Magnolia's is nearest to the Wilson Red Line or, if you don't want to go there, take the Clark bus or cab it.
