Best

Food is really good

Worst

I'm afraid I have to rate this on the low end for the Poor Customer Service.

Great Kabobs, Curries, and Flavors 1/3/2012

Pros: The food is good and flavorfull. The nan is fresh and Kabobs, Curries, Vegis are good. They have an excellent buffet for around $9, even the Chai tea is one of my favorites. Cons: Hard to get a table during rush hour, parking, and wouldn't consider it kid friendly since there's not a lot of space. more

Great Indian Seattle 7/20/2010

Love Jewel of India a great little and authentic Seattle restaurant w/ authentic Indian cuisine. Sweet owners. Nice tiki masaala. Great lunch buffet, and they'll deliver, but not late night. more

Hooray for Jewel of India! 9/11/2006

I love Jewel of India for so many different reasons. I love that the more often I go, the more friendly the whole family gets. I love that their daughter looks curiously for a while and then comes over and chats for a spell. I haven't found better pakora in all of Seattle! I really like that there aren't 4 servers per table refilling my water glass after every sip. Finally an Indian restaurant on the Ave that I can carry on a normal conversation in without being interrupted every two minutes. more

OK Lunch Buffet 4/3/2006

I'd rate the Jewel as adequate, but not outstanding - the selection was limited, and while good, not a lot of wow factor. The only thing I would rate as outstanding was the garlic naan - that was delicious. I liked the atmosphere - not overly crowded, and you could easily carry on a conversation. I, however, will explore the other Indian restuarents in the U-District before I return. more

A decent Indian restaurant 3/5/2006

The most memorable dinner I've eaten at Jewel of India was an all-bread dinner. We ordered naan, stuffed naan, paratha, and a fried bread whose name escapes me. In any case, it was carbohydrate-heavy and totally delicious. Indian breads are lovely. All the entrees I have ordered here (vegetarian only) have been of good, but not outstanding, quality. I've only had the buffet once, and it was several years ago, when it was still called Neelam's, although I recall that it was good. My only suggestion is that the ambience could be improved - better decorations perhaps. more

Good Indian buffet on the Ave 8/26/2005

I can't recall if I've ever ordered anything from the dinner menu here, but have eaten the lunch buffet several times. It seems to be a reliable, good buffet. Nothing really stands out, but everything is fine. It offers booth seating, sometimes hard to find in an Indian restaurant. more

Personal favorite for Indian lunch buffet 4/22/2005

Jewel of India, located in the same bldg where Neelam's used to be, is a good restaurant, but it's the lunch buffet that I feel is really outstanding, particularly for the Sunday brunch where there's even more variety. There's always a great assortment of naan, raita, mint & tamarind chutney, curries, etc. My only regret is that although there's plenty to eat as a vegetarian they don't seem to give a discount for the vegetarian buffet anymore. At dinner, the food is still good of course, but without ordering a whole range of items off the menu it's hard to get the same varied experience you get for the lunch buffet (and certainly not at the same price), so I've decided to eat here only at lunch. more

A Great Value for Indian Food 9/2/2004

Neelam's is good and it's cheap. Need I say more? The decor can be measured in negative numbers but the people are nice and it's the best chicken tikka masala i've had in Seattle. more

Good Indian food 8/31/2004

The decor is OK, the service is good and the food is quite tasty for decent prices. However, this isn't outstanding, as U-District Indian restuarants go - it's pretty average. I'd say it has a slightly better lunch buffet and slightly friendlier service than the Tandoor, which is about two blocks away from it, but the atmosphere isn't as nice. The prices are good, and a dinner for two runs about $20 (lunch is about $12). This is a nice spot for a casual date. more

Good indian food 8/6/2004

This restaurant on University Ave in Seattle has proven to be a great little restaurant. I go to their buffet for lunch on a semi-regular basis and think the food is quite good by Seattle Indian food standards. The decor isn't great and it's neither cheap nor expensive --I go there because the food is good. Worth going if you like indian food. more
