I'd Rather Sleep in My Car 9/15/2010

I gave it one star only because I had to. This is, hands down, the worst place I've ever stayed. The smell of mildew hits as soon as you walk in the door. The carpet is nasty, the bedspread is ancient, the furniture is mismatched and the paint is peeling. I got no soap and found a broken eggshell in the sink (??). \r \r The Thursday night I stayed there it was 46 degrees and the heater wouldn't turn on. It didn't look like it had run since the 70's. There was no one in the office to help, so I froze all night. The next morning (Friday) I told the lady at the front desk that the heater didn't work and she said, ""It's New York, nobody uses heaters here!"" She finally sent someone to fix it, but I was so fed up I packed up to leave. I was booked to stay for two nights but asked for my money back. She informed me that since it was after 11 (check out time) I couldn't get a refund for the Friday night; and also because deposits were done on Monday I couldn't have my money back. (No, this made no sense to me either)\r \r To add to all this, there were several shady looking characters around, and stuff scattered around some of the rooms indicating people are living there. The whole place looks like a flophouse for vagrants and drug addicts. Seriously, I'd rather have slept in my car! more

Best customer service anywhere! 5/18/2008

I came to the Budget Inn in Cortland and was happy from the moment I walked in until the moment I left. The night staff was extrodinarily friendly and accomidating. Most hotels were booked because it was a Parents weekend at College and hotels during that time feel as if they can treat you any which way they choose and overcharge you and treat you horribly because they know they can just get some other person to stay there because they are desperate. The Budget Inn is different. I was treated with respect and got to see my new husband who I just married in February and hadn't got to see him again until now because he has been away fighting the war! Most hotels these don't care that when soldiers are on leave they don't have anywhere to go and don't give them any kind of respect. The Budget Inn did and made sure we had a clean and comfortable room for the night at a fair rate and it was extremely clean. I can't beleive how wrong these other 2 reviews were about this place. I will NEVER stay ANYWHERE else BUT the Budget Inn again when I am up in the area. Beautiful huge king bed's and a romantic atmosphere that made my very stressed husband be able to relax and be himself again after being away in Iraq so long. I only get to spend limited time with him until he finishes up his last few months in Colorado getting transitioned out and the Budget Inn made that possible. I am extremely grateful and am leaving positive feedback any where I can about this fine establishment. Thank you again for allowing my husband and I to fall in love all over again. Pros: Jacuzzi rooms, wonderful staff, clean rooms, comfortable beds, good parking, excellent service. Cons: no cons more

Worst Hotel Ever! Dirty! Smelly! Moldy! Unethical Charge Practices! 11/2/2007

Returning from Montreal, I got off the highway too tired to keep driving and saw the Budget Inn sign, checked in and the room was, easily, the dirtiest, smelliest, moldiest room that I have ever seen -- any room of any kind. As a hotel, I am suprised that they are still open. It looked as if John Belushi and folk filmed part of Animal House there and they left it exactly as it was as some sort of homage. I know this is a college town but ... I can't imagine the college age student who would find it acceptable.\r \r Additionally, after I checked out immediately and was assured that my card would be credited back the charge, it wasn't even after numerous calls. My card company ended up handling the dispute.\r \r There are lots of upstate hotels in this price range that are individually run (not part of a chain) that are great to stay in. Cortland's Budget Inn does these hotels a tremendous disservice by being in business! Cons: Filthy. Smelly. Moldy. Did not honor their word to refund money. more

Mold and mildew - DISGUSTING!! 7/8/2007

I will give them 1 star for the 2 double beds, mini fridge and microwave, other than that the place was plain gross!! I took several pictures. The heater unit was all rusted over. The bathroom was filled with black mold everywhere(I found several different what appeared to be pubic, nose and facial hair stuck to the walls) . It was totally disguting. I had management take a look and they said if they had known they would not have rented me the room. However mold that thick and rust just does not appear overnight. I was in room 46 on July 6th 2007 - DISGUSTING!!! Pros: Microwave, mini fridge Cons: Lots of Mold & Mildew, rust, broken door, peiling paint, dirty carpet more
