My boyfriend and I are fans of Bridgeport and have been for some time. This summer we took my father there when he was in town, and he made us promise we'd take him every time he ...

My husband and I went here during the weekday for happy hour this week: service was decent, beer was good (although he got the beer sampler and the labeling was totally incorrect ...

Good for groups 6/18/2006

OK, I'm not a Bridgeport purist like many of the reviewers here, I'm an out-of-towner who enjoyed a fine group gathering upstairs here. Food was good, service was excellent and neighboorhood was cool to check out. Nothing awfully stellar here but no complaints either. Pros: Good for groups, drinks, pub food Cons: Apparently, locals dislike this place! more

3 strikes and you're out! 6/16/2006

Since reopening Ive been here three times. Each time Ive sat in a different area of the brewery. The first time was a few days after their grand opening. A friend and I went to happy hour upstairs at the bar. Our waiter, Bret J, was one of the snootiest waiters Ive ever encountered. He would pass by our table and not even acknowledge that we might want another beer or put in a food order. He acted as though we werent even there, turning up his nose as he walked by us. My next experience I sat in the bakery area and had pizza. Where did that wonderful slice go? The pizza they are serving now has nothing in common with the great old pie they used to serve. For a bakery the crust was tasteless and lost its crisp texture immediately. Dont even get me started on the toppings! My last and final try to make this place work was on the patio dock. My husband and I wanted a cool drink and some munchies last Saturday afternoon. Our waitress, Katie, brought out our drinks, but did not bring any sugar to go with my iced tea. That is the last she looked at us. She waited on tables on either side of us, and whenever we would try to give her a signal that we needed service she just looked the other way and walked away. I finally had to fetch the sugar myself, and we never did get a food order in. At one point she was so engaged in a conversation at the cash register that the chef had to call her to tell her the food order for a table was getting cold. Just a note for those servers, your tip is directly proportional to the service. Cons: Service, pizza more

Dry Cow 5/31/2006

My hamburger was so dry even though I specifically ordered my burger not to be dry. The food was boring and so was the ambience. The beer is always good even though they were out of the Porter on a Wednesday night. I will not go again. There are so many good places in Portland. This doesn't rate a second visit. The food gets 1 star, service gets 4 stars, ambience gets 2 stars, beer gets 4 stars, value is 2 stars. Pros: good place for groups, beer, service Cons: food, stark ambience more

Waitstaff Sucks 5/30/2006

The happy hour food wasn't bad, but our moronic waiter made our experience there pretty unpleasant. We were into our second round of appetizers before we got our beer--and this was after I questioned him about its whereabouts. When we paid, we wanted to split the check and gave him 2 credit cards. He came back to us, holding both cards in his hands, and claimed we only gave him 1 card. We were dumbfounded at his idiocy; he was holding BOTH in his hands! After going back and forth, he finally realized he did, in fact, have 2 cards in his hands. He was also snooty and demeaning, to boot. When you have trouble counting to 2, you have no grounds to be snooty. We won't be going back. Cons: Stupid waiters more

Bummer! 5/26/2006

Bridgeport changed for the worse! The 'upgrade' is dissapointing to say the least. They make decide WHAT you'll eat before they even seat you, so they can decide WHERE to seat you. Very un-cool. The first time my family and I tried to eat there, we were so put off by this that we left without even getting a table - something at least 3 other groups ahead of us in line did as well. Wierd business plan Bridgeport! I tried again and the food was pretty good, service was nice, but EXTREMELY slow. It's unfortunate, because Bridgeport used to be my favorite - now I won't go back. Pros: good beer, pretty good food Cons: stuffy hostesses, stuffy atmoshphere, not good for kids more

What Happened 4/9/2006

Had a few friends meet, on a Friday night. We so loved the old place, relaxed, pizza/beer joint. We already have to many upscale bar / restaurants in town. Great idea adding private group space, Portland needs more of that. I don't have kids but a few friends commented, it's seriously not kid friendly anymore. Unfortunately, we left and didn't try the food. Can't comment there, the beer was good as always. Pros: Good Beer, Bar Scene, Group dining Cons: Newly upscaled, Don't bring kids more

Failed Experiment 4/4/2006

We live a block away and have waited throughout the remodel for Bridgeport to reopen. We went tonight, and the first thing was to look at three menus and decide WHAT we wanted to eat before we could find out WHERE we would eat. We noticed that the PUB and BAR menus have the same selections in different order. Hmmm. We were sent upstairs where there was a line of people waiting to be seated and no staff to organize the masses. We left and went to the On Deck - Good food, great atmosphere, friendly, and not complicated. Much better bet for my dollar. Cons: process, selection, execution more

Another Loss to the Plague of Gentrification 4/3/2006

Last Saturday a few friends and I decided to check out the new incarnation of a Portland favorite. Immediately upon entering it became clear that the Pearl had claimed another victim and in fact Bridgeport was no longer even a brewpub. The furniture appears to have been purchased from a Dania clearance sale, the bar is faced with uninviting (and poorly installed) marble tiles, and the sense of community is lost on the new trust fund clientele. When we finally got a table, our server was neither knowledgeable of the menu nor could he articulate the basics of the brewing process. When ordering we realized that two of us would have to eat in different areas in order to eat what we wanted. I recommend waiting until this experiment fails and they return to what they did well - providing a public house focused on community, beer and simple food. Pros: great beer, good pizza, brick and timber Cons: restrictive menus, no ambience, bad furniture more

Perfect Fit 4/2/2006

I was a regular at Bridgeport for ten years. Saturday I returned for the first time since the renovation. Unfortunately, it now fits perfectly in the Pearl District. The decor is sterile and plastic; gone are the days of the inviting, warm & rustic interior. Operational changes are an equal disappointment. You have to look at three menus before even sitting down and then you can't get pizza in the dining room. The service is impersonal. Our waiter was inattentive and did not seem to know the menu very well. Though the corporate owner (it's not even locally owned anymore) has given in to the greed surging through the neighborhood, at least they didn't change the beer. Pros: cheap, good beer, good pizza Cons: uncomfortable seats, crowded dining room, impersonal more

Where did Bridgeport go? 3/30/2006

I miss the old restaurant. It had personality, good food, and a great atmosphere. It is now a sterile copy of many of the other Pearl restaurants. 3 menus is just silly and the pizza that made it great is very average. more

Misssing the old place 3/25/2006

I understand why corporate owners of Bridgeport felt the need to remodel the brewery. The mark was missed in the ambience department which what the old brewery had in abundence. Black and chrome table and chairs clash with the sprit of the old hemp factory. The beer is as good as ever the bakery is a nice touch, however I can not get past the Portland modern attempt to be part of the Pearl. Pros: ales, bakery Cons: ambience more

OH Bridgeport...why did ya have to change??? 3/23/2006

Since this resturant re-opened there is to be expected the few quirks that will need to iron themseleves out to survive. 2 of the 3 meals were cold. I was lucky enough to have the warm one. Food taste was what I expected it to be for the location and price. My gripe about this place is how the dinner menu was written. It seems some overly intelligent person wrote it because from the starter to the main course I really had not clue what I was ordering. Salmon Bacon?? What does that mean...Salmon cut like bacon? Salmon the looks like bacon...when actually it was a Salmon topped with a few sprinkles of bacon. If you keep the menu's the same please add punctutaion. With 3 menus why are they all served out of 1 kitchen. No wonder 2/3rd's of our dinners were served cold. Our server was nice though. Pros: Food Quality, Service Cons: Price, LOUD more

Shunned at the Door 3/22/2006

My husband and I were really excited to visit the re-opened Bridgeport. Sadly we didn't wind up eating there and never plan to return. Upon arrival we were asked to decide between the dinner and pub menus. After some struggle in the dimly lit area to quickly decide what we wanted to eat for dinner, we chose the pub menu. This unfortunaley meant we could only sit in the pub -- a room equipped only with 3 foot stools. Being that we were there with our 15month old, we were pretty shocked they would suggest this type of seating. When I pointed out that there was no way for us to feasibly sit there, we were pretty much told ""too bad"". We could either eat off the unaccomodating for children dinner menu or subject our toddler to a potential 3 foot fall from a stool. We left in disgust. Cons: Unaccommodating, Rude, Bad for Families more

New Bridgeport not an improvement 3/20/2006

Having been a patron of the ""old"" Bridgeport for 10+ years I eagerly anticipated the reopening after the long remodel process. What an disappointment! The new Bridgeport feels like every other Pearl-district bar/restaurant. What a loss for Portland! There are now three different menus to choose from, each equally inflexible (""no substitutions!"") and uninspired. Based on our experience, I got a stong sense that Bridgeport is trying to ""weed out"" the old patrons, especially families with kids. Citysearch should also make their listing clear to show that the newly opened Bridgeport is completely different that the old one, as all of the pre-2005 restaurant reviews of Bridgeport are really no longer relevant. more

You've got to be kidding! 3/13/2006

Bridgeport has been converted into an Upscaled Modern Industrial theme. The old rustic look if mostly gone, even some of the oversized support timbers have been cut through and left looking like severed appendages. Gone are the cozy nooks for a private beer and meal with friends. Instead, all areas are wide open, looking more like a demented school cafitera. It's loud and the is no privacey. There are three eating areas: Pub, Dinner and Bar areas. All have different menu's which makes things a little confusing when trying to see the entire menu. Some of the old Bridgeport stand bys are on the menu.... at a new price - Higher! Service was horrible! 20 mins for anyone say hello. Then we recieved, only what I can call, two PROFIT POURED Beer. The quality of the food was good, but not worth the price. more

How many menus??? 3/5/2006

I can understand a different menu for the dining room and then other areas but THREE? We had to stand there and quickly read and somewhat decided what we MIGHT eat in order to figure out where we were going to sit. This felt awkward and silly. I suggest the SAME menu for the bar and pub so one is only stuck with one quick decision before being sat. Also, where's the flavor? Had the spreads and grilled bread and I could barely tell spreads apart. The blue cheese spread was bitter and hardly had any blue flavor, quite disappointing. Wouldn't say we'll go back any time soon. Pros: inexpensive, good beer Cons: too many menus, lack of flavor, stark/cold decor more

What happened? 2/25/2006

Pre-remodel: cozy, friendly, excellent food/service. Post-remodel: snooty, rude, poor service, mediocre food, impersonal. I am sad to have lost a great hang-out spot. more

I like this place, but the acoustics are a nightmare! Be prepared to have trouble holding a conversation, due to the extreme noise level. Cons: loud more

good beer-horible service 2/19/2005

BBP is worth the trip if you appricate the quality beer that the rose city can produce, however, if you are looking for a quality dining experience, go somewhere else. BBP has by far the worst service in this city, in the pub and also for the kegs to go part of their business. But I guess I deal with the horible service for the reward at the end. Pros: good beer Cons: bad attitudes more

getting better 3/7/2004

We hadn't been to Bridgeport for several years, the beer was always a bit too warm and the pizza was just better than average. We went over the weekend and things have really changed. The pizza is now thinner and crisper, almost NY style. It was exceptionally good. The beer is also colder, and the IPA is much better here on draft than anywhere else, and allot better than from the bottles. The only downside is the place is crowded, and the upstairs is warm. They had a wedding reception going on in the big ballroom and it was closed, so seating was limited. Perhaps if that area is normally open to everyone it would really help with the crowds. Pros: great pizza, great beer Cons: , warm more
