I can't wait to go back 10/14/2008

I went for my first time last Friday night and was blown away. The specialty drinks are so original...you'll never get one like it anywhere else. For dinner I had the diver scallops with brandy cream, citrus linguini, woodland mushrooms. It was perfect. I can't wait to go back. Make reservations. Pros: seafood, service more

Fantastic Food, casual setting 8/14/2008

The modest, yet inviting, look of the place belies the high end ingredients and fantastic cooking. All four of us ordered fish and each dish was excellent, but the meat dishes we saw coming out of the kitchen looked equally good. Desserts were great as well. There's obviously a very talented chef here and despite the out of the way location I plan on going back to what is now on my top ten list in NYC, you should make the trip too! more

Also an awesome bar! 5/13/2008

Yes, the food is fantastic. But what no one seems to mention is that they have one of the best-stocked bars in the city. The bourbon and scotch selections are unbelievable, with some stuff not even the Brandy Library has! And here's a hint: they have sample sizes so you can try a few things for much less than a regular glass, plus a great way to try something before investing a lot of money in a bottle for yourself. more

Hidden treat 5/1/2008

You might have to circle around the block a few times to find it, but it's worth the effort. I've been probably 6 times and each time the food was just as good as a I remembered it. The Buffalo hanger steak is great, as is the panko coated chicken (if it's on the menu then, it seems to come and go). The wine list is good while also being reasonable (good smaller WA and CA labels, many bottles in the $40-$60 range). The place is small and the dark wood bar dominates along one wall. The small size and wonderfully dated interior give it a really nice almost homey feel. Service has always been prompt and nice. Dinner for two is reasonable with a shared salad to start, two entrees, bottle of wine and a shared desert seeming to run about $110, which for the quality of the food and being in the city is pretty good. Pros: Great food, Wonderful atmosphere Cons: Hidden more

Better than any other restaurant in the financial district 11/22/2007

It was recommend to me while I was working in NYC. I tried lot's of restaurants as I'm a consultant and I expense all of my meals. It has small settings, not like other fancy restaurants in NY. The important thing is the food was great, not so many selection but every time I went there the food was so good. Compared to restaurants around it in the sea port, this one was way much better. Waitress were nice and friendly as well. I wish I went more during my 4 month stay in the financial district. Pros: Food was great Cons: small more

Best Sunday Brunch 8/7/2007

After a long walk over the Brooklyn Bridge my boyfriend and I stumbled upon this quaint cafe. Pros: Great ambiance, exceptional service, great VALUE! more

Best Potato Gnocchi ever!! 5/27/2007

A friend recommended this place as they have visited numerous times before. I consider it a diamond in the rough. The appetizers and buffalo steak entree where to die for. The food was very originally done and I would rate very high. I can't wait to go back. The service was helpful and the menu had a lot of choices. The prices are also affordable. Pros: Great food!!! more

Best brunch ever! 3/4/2007

I had the best brunch at the Bridge Cafe. I went w/ 3 other people at noon w/o a reservation and were immediately seated. It did get quite busy towards 1pm. The bread they serve is delicious and warm and they will bring you more if you want. The fritters were outstanding. The omlette was perfect, the eggs benedict was probably the best my bf ever had. The crepes and bacon were also enjoyed by our guests. I will be back without a doubt. It makes me very curious how their dinners are. I'd be willing to bet they are also amazing. The service was prompt, friendly, and attentive. Impossible to be disappointed. Pros: amazing food, great service more

An excellent little secret 10/28/2006

Great service, everything on the menu looked good. The Bridge Cafe is worth the search - if you can find it, you are among the true locals who have been hiding this place since 1794. There is a real old-world atmosphere, which makes this an excellent dinner or brunch idea. Pros: Great food, super atmosphere, attentive and professional staff Cons: Hard to find - take a good map! more

attentive staff, not rushed at all, nice out of the way cafe 8/14/2006

Fantastic! 12/25/2005

Every year one member of the family gets to pick a place to go for x-mas eve dinner. This year it was my turn! There is a lot of presure because we always meet in NYC, there are many places to go but not all of them are good enough for such big deal with my family. I am happy to say the Bridge Cafe was better then any other place in New York and it will, I think, be where we go every x-mas eve! Food - Great! Lamb chops and rib eye were fantastic! We do not drink that much, but they had some very nice wines by the glass. Service, they knew how to make us feel at home, and the night seemed as important to the staff as it was to my family. Nothing snooty here. Thank you so much Bridge Cafe and Happy New Year! Pros: Food, Staff, Great feel! Cons: A little out of the -, way,but they gave , good directions more

Decent value for downtown restaurant week 11/17/2005

The restaurant was a lot smaller than we thought it'd be but it was quaint. The waitresses were really attentive to our needs - always refilling our glasses and making sure everything was ok. The food was average. I had the calamari appetizer, Rigatoni as an entree and Green Apple Sorbet for desert. I'd have to say that the sorbet was a refreshing surprise. For $20 in good company, it was worth it. more

A hidden jewel beneath the Brooklyn Bridge 10/5/2005

Off the South St Seaport tourist path lies Bridge Cafe, one of the finest restaurants in Manhattan. Seated promptly, attentive service, excellent food (no, you can't make this at home), wine list with reasonable prices, charming old NY decor, great place to take a date. Very impressive, they have hooked me as a regular. A hidden jewel in the financial district. Pros: Good Value Cons: Off the beaten path more

Good Eats at the Foot of the Brooklyn Bridge 8/17/2005

Civilized without being pretentious. Most diners there had guide books with them. It seems they know something New Yorkers don't. A very nice dining experience all around. Pros: excellent service, very tasty food Cons: difficult to find more

Good for the romantics 2/22/2005

We went there based on other's recommendations. The place was not easy to find at night if you haven't been there before. But it is a very cute little restaurant with limited seating so reservations are suggested. Staff was friendly and the food was very good. I ordered their famous buffalo steak which originally would come with homemade potatoe gnocchi but I chose the sauteed spinach with garlic instead, which turned out to be exceptional. It was an excellent sidedish and the spinach was fresh and not overdone. The garlic flavor was just right and it complimented the spinach perfectly. The sidedish enhanced the flavor of the buffalo steak tremendously. The sauce that went with the whole dish brought everything together with the right amount of seasoning and served as the base for the flavors of the other ingredients to build on. It was truly mouthwatering. Pros: ambience, food, staff Cons: hard to find at night more

Great place for a quiet romantic dinner 10/10/2004

I went there on a date with my husband and had a wonderful time. The food was great, it even had vegetarain options. The service was also great as was the atmosphere, small not crowded, not snooty, great backfround music and soft lighting. Pros: Food, Ambiance, Service more
