Awesome beer selection 4/10/2006

I made my first visit to Bottleworks in Wallingford over the weekend. I first learned of the beer store from a few JudysBook friends, and they were spot on. Small and dark, Bottleworks features a great collection of beers from around the world. My wife is Czech and we found a number of familiar beers there that she didn't even know were available in the US. more

A Beer Lover's Delight 8/21/2005

This store is the best place in the world as far as my husband is concerned. I am only a sometime drinker of beer, and even I love the store. The staff are often funny and more like the friendly neighborhood bartender than a store cashier. This is the best place to hit before a bbq or a party and an even better place to hit for a gift for those hard to buy for guys on your list. Just about any imaginable beer is on the shelves here. It is fun to just browse the shelves and see what they have to offer. In addition to beer they also offer glasses to drink the beer in, t-shirts, and the perfect complement to a good beer---gourmet chocolate. On a summer day, they also have what seems to be more essential lately in Seattle, air-conditioning. Their window displays are always a kick in the pants too. Stop by here next time you need beer and you never know what kind of beer you might end up buying. Wallingford is happy to have this store in the neighborhood! more

Here, in the land of the microbrew . . . 8/17/2005

Bottleworks does good works. A robust micro- and international beer selection, complemented by a relatively small but potent selection of chocolates. They offer tastings on Tuesdays, present festivals, and team up with various brewers to construct interesting (mainstream-straying) beers. A bit pricey (Wallingford rents, I assume), so unless you’re remarkably gung-ho about supporting local businesses, some of the basics would be more cheaply purchased elsewhere. The remainder of their inventory (most of it) consists of brews you’re unlikely to find elsewhere. more

Mmm, non-budwieser beer 8/17/2005

Bottleworks is a great Seattle independent small business with youthful flava. The staff know their beers. Give them an idea of your taste in beer and they will navigate you through the intimidating variety of beers from around the world. Or, you can always just wander through and buy based on the label. Or, you can research your beer online and then come in with a list. They will most likely be stocked with what you need. more

Best beer selection in Seattle 8/17/2005

Bottleworks may not be big, but the inventory is incredible. Split about evenly between domestics (with an emphasis on local/Pacific Northwest beers) and imports (with a particularly nice selection of Belgians), it's a great place to try something new or find something hard to come by. Particularly impressive is the back wall, where the "big beers" -- barleywines and other high-gravity creations -- lurk. For several, including Sierra Nevada Celebration Ale and Rogue's Old Crustacean, preveious years' versions are also available, allowing a vertical tasting of several years at once. The staff know a lot about beer and are helpful. The prices are in line with grocery stores, though without the frequent specials. more

Best source for bottled beer (anywhere, ever!) 8/16/2005

Bottleworks is, by far, the best place to buy bottled beer in all of Washington. The selection is over 850 (!!!!!!!!) different individual bottles. Every style of beer you can possibly imagine is available including many well aged barley wines, exclusive and limited time brews, and local favorites. Their staff is always helpful and knows plenty about the stock. Give them a call before you go and ask them when they'll be doing a tasting next (about twice a month, usually tuesdays, a brewery will come in and pour samples of their product for only a dollar... not per taste but per session). If you even think you enjoy beer you must go to Bottleworks! more

Great selection of beers! 4/22/2005

Bottleworks is my favorite place to go looking for a good new kind of beer to try. They carry a great selection of domestic microbrews like Dick's from Centralia as well as imported bottles from all over the world: from Ethiopian to Japanese Hitachino Nest (at a much better price than you'll find it at Uwajimaya) to a whole range of Belgian beers, and even notable non-beers like imported ciders and local mead. Plus they have occasional (not quite weekly) beer tastings for just a dollar! more

Pete Coors and his beer can stick it 10/17/2004

as the motto of Bottleworks says, "Yellow fizzy beer is for wussies". Anybody who prefers beer to wine or booze as the evening beverage of choice should shop here. Do you want to taste the most delicious of the classic belgian abbey ales (Duinen Dubbel)? Go here. Do you want a suggestion on which microbrewery IPA's you should try given your tastes? GO here. Do you want to go home with a sampler of all 6 of this year's Oktoberfest offerings from the major German breweries? Go here. And if you love beer and you love big boisterous public dining experiences such as the eastern and central europeans do so well, then prepare for the opening of Bottleworks' owners new restaurant-beer hall in Fremont in November. I love this place. more

Beer & Chocolates 9/7/2004

Best beer selection in the city (well, maybe Whole Foods has a chance...) and very knowledgable staff. Right in the heart of Wallingford on 45th- it is often looks closed- that's because they don't let the light get in there and damage those precious brews. If you are a beer lover- you'll find amazing ales. If you aren't experienced, the boys behind the counter are jumping to take you on a tour and teach you the ropes. more
