No Spice found around here 1/30/2009

My girlfriend and I went here expecting something better than average. The restaurant has a cool name but one would expect there to be some "spice" in their food. Their curry sauce is too mild. My entre tasted like that frozen Aunt Marie's Indian cuisine you can get at your local grocery store. The service wasn't bad. The food arrived in a reasonable amount of time. Their happy hour menu wasn't bad either. So there are some good things to say about this place. But they really need to re-work their menu. The food needs more of that authentic Indian flavor. Overall the food is too bland, lacks style and creativity, but the price isn't too bad. This place could have a lot of potential. Unless they do something dramatic with their menu I do not plan on returning nor am I recommending this place to my friends. Pros: Ambience, good value for their happy hour menu Cons: Bland food, food lacks creativity more

Mediocre at best 7/9/2008

The Olive Garden of Indian Food. Vegas style decor with bland, dumbed down food. Methinks both the other reviews here were written by the owners or their friends--"did you notice the $20 wines?" The food wasn't bad, but there was nothing to commend it. Their forte may be their appetizers and bar, but don't bother going there for a meal--much better Indian food is available throughout Phoenix. Look elsewhere. Pros: Cool ratpack Vegas decor Cons: Blah food more

My first chickpea Ceviche and I have to go back! 4/20/2008

We visited the Phoenix area last week and decided to try out this new Indian restaurant. The atmosphere is fresh, light and colorful. The waitress was prompt and fun but not overly on top of us. The best part was the food. I just have to go back and have the chickpea ceviche again. The flavor was tangy and robust and absolutely unforgetable. I have been unable to find anything like it in Kansas City since our return. We also shared the lamb and it was unbelievably tender and full of flavor. At this juncture I would like to comment on the $20 wine list. It is quite a bargin to find these wines at this price anywhere. I was particularly pleased we could order by the glass as well. Our next course (we like to share) was the shrimp tikka skewers. The shrimp could have melted in my mouth, it was cooked perfectly and very flavorful. We capped off our meal with the freshly made carrot souffle. It was very light and just the perfect desert after this wonderful meal. I encourage you to try this one out. It is unlike any other Indian restaurant I have ever visited because of the wonderful and flavorful food combined with a price that is easy on the pocket book. Pros: excellent food, $20 wine list, great location more

Awesome wine bar with healhy new twist on Indian Cuisine 4/17/2008

I heard about Bomaby Spice Grill & Wine from a friend of mine. We both love to drink wine and are big on healthy food. I didn't know what to think at first as I had not tried Indian food only a few times and each time it was far from healthy and spicy hot. Also, I don't like to smell like curry when I leave the restaurant. Bombay was totally diffrent. It is cool and contemporary inside with awesome music. It has a wine bar, tables, and a community table. The restaurant and bathrooms are very clean and the service was friendly. The wine and food were the best part. All the items on the menu are healthy and made with just a little bit of extra virgin olive oil. They have many vegetarian options and cook meats on the grill, not a tandoor. I had the Lamb Chops as a starter. It was awesome. Three chops for under $10.00! All items are under $10.00. My date had the veggie Samosas. He gobbled them up. After that we both ordered a plate with a choice of two items. He had the beef kebab and chicken tikka with rice and I had the eggplant and Veggie Tofu Tikka with brown rice. The spice was mild and flavorful. Usually I have to drink 10 glasses of water just to eat at a typical Indian place for a meal. At Bombay everything was just right. We didn't have dessert but did order and share a bottle of wine. We had a bottle of Spellbound for only $20! They serve 40 wines all for $20. It's like happy hour all the time. They also serve all 40 wines by the glass. We were both impressed by the value of the selections they had on the wine menu. It isn't your typical Indian food but much better! I am going back soon for sure. They also had a to-go menu so picking up dinner is always an option too. It is worth trying out. This place has much more to offer than standard curry dishes. It has salads, wraps, rice bowls and plate options, much more targeted to the American palate. Pros: Tasty Healthy Food and Wine for great value Cons: Located in a strip mall at 16th and Glendale, hard to see from street more
