I live in Midtown with its plethora of steakhouses and have tried them all except, until last night, this place. I pass it?s great-looking mahogany bar daily on the way to and from work. The host, one of the two owners, recognized me from passing by so often and joked that it only took me 2 years to try the restaurant. I?m glad I did. The dining room, with its 20 foot ceilings, is stunning. Our waiter was quick with the drink order. I ordered a Chimay, my wife a Sav-Blanc, and her friend some fruity drink. The wine list is extensive and reasonable. The waiter described the specials and then patiently listened to my wife?s friend describe her vegetarianism. He was able to satisfy her with a plate of colorful veggies. My wife and I had the porterhouse which was as good as any we?ve had. Interesting specials, side dishes (saffron lobster mac ?n cheese, maple brussel sprouts), and desserts (pumpkin creme brulee). A carnivore, an omnivore, and even a herbivore all liked this place.
Pros: steak, creative specials, considerate and proficient service, ambiance, wine and single malt lists, sport-savvy bartenders, hands-on owners
Cons: was seated too promptly and couldn't get lubed up at the bar beforehand to deal with wife's friend
