RIP-OFF ARTISTS! I ordered a fresh Mary's Organic turkey for Christmas. When I picked it up, I was charged $6.00/pound--twice as much as it was selling for 50 yards away at Magnolia Thriftway, at $2.99/pound. Christmas morning I went to prep the bird and saw a sticker I'd overlooked ""SELL OR FREEZE BY 11/29/2011"". THEY SOLD ME A LEFTOVER THANKSGIVING TURKEY THAT HAD BEEN FROZEN AND CHARGED ME $6.00 A POUND FOR IT!
I was trying to do a good turn and support a small local merchant. I was even willing to pay a premium to do so--but not a 100% markup, and not for a FROZEN bird. The merchant offered me a $20.00 gift certificate as a consolation prize.
My advice: CAVEAT EMPTOR. These guys will rip you off it they get a chance. They are completely unscrupulous. I paid $120 for a frozen leftover.
