Terrific, compassionate veterinary care 6/5/2007

Dr. Laurie Leach has treated 5 of our cats over the years, who ranged in age from 9 months to 18 years. Before we became clients of the Beverly Oaks Animal Hospital, we had experience with many other veterinarians. Never have we encountered a more humane, caring individual than Dr. Leach. She has treated our pets with compassion and dignity, whether in sickness or in health, and has comforted us through the loss of several of these animals as time took its inevitable toll. Even though Dr. Leach is a skilled practitioner in her profession, she is never too proud to admit that an animal deserves concomitant treatment from a more specialized colleague. Not only has she lavished her able professional care on our cats, but she has also been enormously congenial to us as a human being . We have always been able to contact her for consultation by phone and email and have never had a problem making an appointment to see her personally in our visits to the clinic. While sometimes her friendliness to each of her clients makes the examination room wait slightly longer than we would like, we know that, once it is our time, she will always spend all the time necessary to examine and treat our pets. In addition to Dr. Leach being an accomplished and affable veterinarian, her entire support staff has always been friendly and knowledgeable during our visits. Dr. Leach and the Beverly Oaks Animal Hospital are highly recommended to all dog and cat owners who value a personal relationship with experts in the veterinary field. more

WORST SERVICE. RUDE AND NON-CARING STAFF 5/20/2007

STAY AWAY. NEVER THE SAME VET. RUDE AND NON-CARING STAFF. NEVER GET A CALL BACK WHEN I TRY TO REACH THE DOCTOR. ALWAYS HEAR PEOPLE SCREAMING "GIVE ME MY DOG BACK" Pros: NONE Cons: TERRIBLE PEOPLE more

Worst customer service 4/14/2007

This evening I went to Beverly Oaks Animal Hospital to pick up a bag of dog food. I stood at the reception counter for more than10 minutes and eventually left without making a purchase. Although the clinic was quiet, of the three staff members behind the desk, none made eye contact or even acknowledged my presence although only one person was talking to another customer. Unfortunately this seems to be the norm and if you phone in, you are dealt with abrasively over the phone. They overcharge for their services and insist on running tests that are costly and probably unnecessary for the most routine of ailments. The staff seem to be very young, inexperienced and untrained in even the most common of courtesies. Needless to say this was my last visit and I will take my business elsewhere in the future. more

Lost the life of my 5 yo dog, rude, and exacerbated a very emotionally difficult time 1/15/2007

My 5 y.o. dog was taken to this animal hospital for frequent 'inability to keep down food'. He was diagnosed with pancreatitis. We were told that he would make a successful recovery but needed to stay in the hospital for a few days for treatment. Our family, not knowing the severity of pancreatitis agreed to keep our beloved dog at the vet with the assurance he would be fine. We visited him every day and he did not seem to be getting any better. I was the last family member to see him alive. He was in a cage and when I went to say goodbye his paw (which was connected to IV's) had to be moved so I could close to cage. I carefully began to move his arm back into the cage when one of the vet techs came by and grab his paw and shoved it back in to the cage. He died that night. Pros: NONE Cons: They dont care about animals at all, they just want your money more

Grateful we found Dr. Leach & her staff 11/24/2006

I have never had a better experience with a vet in LA. From the moment we brought our cat in 2 mos. ago, to tonight, when we finally had to put our beloved guy to sleep, Dr. Leach and her staff where compassionate, caring and went above and beyond their dury to help him. Dr. Leach had no problem suggesting we get other opinions and was open to all of our suggestions and questions. The staff remembered him when we came in, and gave him immediate attention during emergencies. I do a lot of rescue, and I'm very picky about my vets. This is a very busy office, and can understand when they can't call right back unless it's an emergency, but when it counted they were there. Dr. Leach never suggested unnecessary tests or treatments, and her prices were the same if not less than other vets I have driven far further to see. They gave him the best care possible at the end until we could arrive the be with him, and then helped him pass peacfully. I don't think we could ask for more. more

Stay Away -- Horrible Vets 6/21/2006

In my 30+ years as a pet owner, this is the worst experience I have ever had with a vet. I took my dog for emergency care and after 3 days of hospitalization and numerous intrusive diagnostic tests costing thousands of dollars, these vets had no idea what was wrong with my dog, wanted to do exploratory surgery and eventually gave me a completely wrong diagnosis. They were inexperienced, rude, dismissive of my suggestions and combative in response to my questions -- they told me nothing except that they needed to do more expensive tests. I had to beg them in tears to be nice to me because my dog was dying. As soon as I could (it was after-hours on the weekend), I took my dog to a wonderful vet -- Dr. Richard Martin of Brentwood Pet Clinic who, in 10 minutes, diagnosed what Beverly Oaks couldn't diagnose after 3 days -- it was a problem with my dog's heart and Dr. Martin referred me to an amazing cardiologist, Dr. Sarah Zimmerman of Advanced Veterinary Care Center in Lawndale, who could more

Stay Away 4/20/2006

This place is the worst!\r \r We took our cat here for emergency care.\r These people ran a battery of tests, charged $500 to our credit card and then did NOTHING AT ALL to even try and help our cat or tell us what could be wrong.\r Once the tests results were in (nearly 24 hrs later than promised) they refused to discuss them \r insisting that we spend an additional $1,400 for an\r Ultrasound (to be conducted thirty miles away from our home) before they would give any sort of opinion whatsoever. By this time 48 hrs had elapsed, $500 was paid and still our cat received absolutely zero help from these people.\r \r The vets who saw our pet were inexperienced; they were noncommittal and cold, cold, cold. The staff is worse: incompetent, rude, dismissive. \r \r We spoke with freinds and found a different vet who treats our pets, and us, with kindness and respect. PROS: ZERO CONS: Poor vets. Abominable staff. Terrible treatment of pets and humans. more

Very Bad Staff 12/26/2005

We found their vets were competent. However, their staff is incredibly incompetent. We must have been promised call-backs over a dozen times, ALL of which were never returned. Every time we call, we are stuck on hold for 20-30 minutes with numerous interuptions from the staff thinking it was a brand new call, and numerous times we had to give our information again and again and again to staffers since they had forgotten our call or passed us off to some other clueless staffer to be put on hold yet again. PROS: Competent Vets CONS: Bad Staff more

Dr Laurie Leach is Wonderful! Hard to Find Great Vet in this town! 12/21/2005

Dr Laurie Leach is a fantastic vet. She put one of my dogs to sleep and was so caring and wonderful to me as she takes the time to understand not only the animal's emotions but the owner as well.. She is an excellent surgeon and has been extremely fair with pricing as I have a few dogs. She takes everything into consideration. She has been a great @ removing cancer with local anesthetic from my one dog, diagnosing her with Cushings and She Works with me to provide me and my 3 dogs with EXCELLENT CARE! . I cannot speak for any other doctor and some of the staff is not easy to deal with, but DR LEACH IS WORTH ALOT!!. A Hard Find in Sherman Oaks, I lived there a long time, alot of bad vets, she is a gem ..Also 24 hour hospital saves money and time and worry, never have to transport from emergency clinic to vet. You can override the staff as Dr Leach will e-mail you results, some staff great, some lemons.. but main thing, you need a great vet/surgeon and 24 hrs! Dr Leach outstanding! PRO more

STAY FAR AWAY 11/27/2005

I took my perfectly healthy cat for a bath and tooth cleaning. They convinced me to get all of these blood tests done. They never told me the results. I had to call 2x and still no one ever called me back with the results. That cost me about 350 bucks and my cat came back sick with a cold - in 5 years, he has never had a cold. He obviously caught the cold from the vet's office or because they did not keep him warm after the bath. They would not credit me for the subsequent 2 visits and medicine that I needed to get the cold treated - another 200 bucks. I left another 2 messages for the office manager, who never called me back. My impression was that the vet was young and inexperienced, and that no one really cared about service or the animals. Cons: Service, Attitude, Care more

Don't go to this place 2/15/2005

The office staff is highly incompetent and the vet ordered a bunch of unnecessary tests and told me that I should hospitalize my cat for an additional $350 - making my total for the day $850!! When I refused she said my cat would only live a month if I did nothing. So I went to another vet and found out this information was simply not true. more
