Birthday Blah 8/12/2004

What a let down! I was so misinformed about this place. It is clearly a cheesy theme ""italian"" restaurant for suburbinites on their way to a show in the city. Way too loud! we could not hear our compainions across the table. Horrible TGIFridays-esque waiter with a big brass nametag! Who shouted at us ""who's ready to have some fun!!!!"" then proceded to be arrogant and not very knowledgable-mispronouncing several common italian entrees. One of our dishes didn't arrive at all (with our waiter never seeming to notice) and the others came five minutes after our apps-we felt like cattle being herded through our meal. The prices are extreme for such a sub-par expirience both service and taste wise. Too many other great places in town to waste your time here. Pros: , smoke free Cons: , older crowd more

$46 Entree That tastes Like White Castle 8/8/2004

This is a great place to go if you hate your money and like bad food. First we order some drinks which had no booze as well as 2 appetizers. Only one appetizer arrived and it was good, the fried mozzarella. (Like it is hard to make fried cheese good) I ordered the surf and turf which was filet mignon and crab. I ordered it medium, it came raw. It looked like they sprinkled a little parmesan cheese on it but that was the crab, it was ? of a crab leg for $12 extra. The entree was $46 and did not come with a side. The place is load, expensive and the food is only fair. They should change the name to BellaCockroache. Skip dinner and go to Cosmos, the bar upstairs, as they have a great view way up their and the Jalapeno Cajones are great. Pros: Smoke free Cons: , Loud, Expensive bad food more

bellanot-in-a-million-years 7/23/2004

Where to start! First of all, the food is far below acceptable. Our server told us the restaurant specializes in Northern Italian cuisine, so I decided to order the sashimi-quality tuna on a bed of miso-glazed pasta. My boyfriend decides on lasagna. My tuna was fairly good, however the pasta came hardened and all clumped together in one piece. It was beyond comprehensible that something could arrive in this state. And the lasagna, while not horrible, tasted like something from olive garden. The restaurant has very bad acoustics, making it far too easy to hear the cheesy patrons. Oh and the ""cool"" space? It's trying to be New York, circa 1996...except it still doesn't get it right. more

A Waste of a Beautiful Patio 7/22/2004

I cannot speak to the dining experience of Bellanotte, but I know that I won't be going back for drinks. The patio is great, but it's a shame that it's plagued with horribly overpriced watered-down drinks and plenty of pretension. Pros: Patio Cons: , Atmosphere more

Chef Boyardee, anyone? 6/23/2004

My husband brought me here for my birthday and we were both hugely disappointed. The squash ravioli was completely tasteless and the rigatoni with steak had a red sauce that was exactly like Chef Boyardee. The Caesar dressing was also bland. It tasted like olive oil. The server was awful as well. We had to ask her to give us the specials, and she never came back to our table once we ordered. She was too busy with a large group behind us to give us appetizer plates. Another table of 2 next to ours ordered before us, and received their food 15 minutes after ours arrived. At least the manager (or someone in a suit) apologized to them. Overall, this was horrible food and the ambiance is merely mediocre. Pros: Location Cons: , Service, Cost more

great! 5/10/2004

service was excellent! the food wasn't the best Italian i've ever had, but it certainly wasn't bad by any means. The service and atmosphere made up for any shortcomings the food may have had. more

Anxious to return! 4/7/2004

Dinner and drinks for two on a recent Wed. night was wonderful! It is one of the coolest places in the Cities and the crowd looks just as good. The food was near perfect (salmon and sea bass were our entrees). Value was the best of recent restaurants we have visited with similar prices. The table staff was average and some timing was off but the bartenders and other staff were outstanding. Overall, a great place for a nice dinner for two as well as a large party. Pros: Great Atmosphere, Excellent Food more

Unimpressed 4/1/2004

Our server, while nice and knowlegeable, was slow and clumsy. We were there for three hours total. The food was only warm and tasted like mass-produced catered food...not like it was prepared just for me. Too bad the space is beautiful. For a place this nice, whey were they blasting 80's bar music? Pros: space Cons: , music more

a gem in an otherwise lacking Block E 3/14/2004

Bellanotte is the only respectable place that Block E has to offer. It's classy, fine dining that downtown Minneapolis should be proud of. Pros: classy atmosphere, amazing food, strong drinks more
