UNDERCOOKED & POOR SERVICE 2/24/2012

received COLD sesame chicken takeout, got home 2 blocks from restaurant. The chicken was cold and undercooked- i thought ""do i really need to microwave this? I JUST ordered it!!"" I took it back and requested/demanded a refund but was DENIED by the worker, and his boss whom he called on his cellphone. I was not even OFFERED a replacement! Worst customer service ever!! I took 2 bites out of it and they said they could not refund me!! if you want UNDERCOOKED CHICKEN & POOR SERVICE, go to BEANSPROUT ON HILLSBORO.STREET more

This is the place 9/27/2011

Foodies, with the demise of the Red Palace a few years back deciding how to satisfy my fix for Chinese was depressing. For a while we ventured to Fortune Palace: no complaints. But Beansprout is a plum. Very good no frills well-crafted fresh ingredient Chinese.\r Mapo tofu is as good as you'll find in Raleigh. Chicken dishes use fresh meat and the sauces hit the right notes. Eggplant dishes use Japanese eggplant without seeds. Garlic sauces taste just made. For the budget-minded. Recommend take out. more

ROACHES! 8/17/2011

Don't get me wrong, the food is good, best sesame tofu I've found... and despite my sister getting food poisoning last time she ate there, I went today. The food was better then I remembered (it had been a few months) HOWEVER, I was almost done eating when what appeared to be a baby cockroach crawled across the counter near me... I flicked it away and tried to tell myself it wasn't a roach, that it had to be something else, but my fears were confirmed when its much bigger brother ran by 5 minutes later. EW!!! more

Really, just not good 4/20/2010

I drive past this little place very often and finally decided to try it last night. I wasn't expecting much but it seems to be pretty busy so it couldn't be too bad, right? Wrong. I ordered sesame chicken and the chicken wasn't cooked very well. Awkwardly crunchy. The sauce was fine and would have been better if there was more of it. The rice was very bland. The egg roll was not too bad, probably the best part of the dinner. The sweet tea had that plastic container taste, probably from sitting in it all day long. Worst of all, I looked around for the sanitation grade but couldn't seem to find it. Overall, not recommended. Pros: Location Cons: Quality of food, sanitation? more

Overcharged, twice. 9/6/2009

I love Beansprout as much as the next person. It's been my ideal quick chinese spot for the past four years. However, the last two times I have been, the charge on my debit card has been more than my actual bill. The first time the bill was $7.88 and my card was charged $9. I let it go because I love the food so much, but twice is just silly. The second time the bill again was $7.88 and this time my card was charged $9.45. I'm not saying I'll stop eating there, but I will only be using cash from now on. Like I said, the food is great and even better one meal is a perfect fit for two people but be cautious when using your debit card. Apparently they dislike when people don't tip. Pros: Fantastic food and wonderful prices Cons: Charge made to depit card is bigger than bill. more

AMAZING food! My fave in Raleigh! 7/13/2009

This is my favorite Chinese food place in all of Raleigh. I was so sad when I moved back from Fayetteville and had to leave my regular place behind (the only good thing about that town lol). I never thought I would find a place close to it. Most places make Mu Goo Gai Pan with a chicken broth and its thin and bleach. Here it is made perfectly! I'd eat it once a week if they offered delivery. Thats prolly the only fall back of this place. Haven't had a thing from it that has not been amazing! Pros: amazing Mu Goo Gai Pan and Mu Shu Pork! Love this place! 7/9/2009

An unassuming little gem of a place.Always polite(even when I went there with a very rude person.) Great food ,generous portions,great price. I moved far away and I am planning a a trip to Raleigh...and Beansprout is on my list of must-see landmarks. Definitely try thier veggie entrees. Delicious! Pros: Vegetarian food is awesome and inexpensive! Cons: I live too far away to eat there twice a week! more

fantastic americanized chinese! 10/31/2008

I've lived in Raleigh for about 10 years and in the midst of 4 moves (each taking me a little further away from Beansprout), I always keep coming back for more. This is my favorite take-out chinese restaurant in town. Favorites are the classic sesame chicken (I haven't found another chinese place that makes it like this), sweet 'n sour chicken, and wonton soup. The cost is very reasonable; usually I share a combination dinner with my husband. Pros: great food, low cost, fast service, great call ahead service! Cons: no bathrooms (that I know of), not great dining-in atmosphere more

Huge Portions, GREAT PRICE, Friendly Service 7/16/2008

Awesome vegetarian dishes (ask to be made with no chicken broth on some dishes) and they give you huge portions, so bring a friend ! Cheap, fast and easy. Nice People, I Love this place! I wish they delivered! Pros: AWESOME FOOD / CHEAP! Cons: Does not Deliver more

This restaurant was amazing. The portions were huge, me and my boyfriend shared one dish and an appetizer and took about half of it home and were stuffed! You definately get your money's worth, plus the fried dumplings were the best thing i have ever tasted in my life. I highly recommend this over other chinese restaurants on Hillsborough street, this is much better, a little further down, but WELL WORTH IT!!! Pros: huge portions Cons: not a very romantic date friendly place more

Best Chinese on Hilssborough St. 8/18/2007

Beansprout is the best and cheapest Chinese restaurant and cheapest on Hillsborough St. Dare I suggest Raleigh. The kitchen staff is so friendly and are always smiling when you come into the door. The service is prompt and the food is delicious. Most dishes are the usual suspects, but their quality and flavor are extra-ordinary and put other Chinese restaurants to shame! If you are seeking authentic Chinese food this is not the place, but if you want fantastic Americanized Chinese food then smash the brakes and turn in!, you won't regret it! So, I have lived in Raleigh for about 5 years and have tried quite a few chinese restaurants, and Beansprout beats them all! If you are vegetarian, they have a lot to offer, and their tofu is great! Also, the people who work there are very friendly. more

Superb Chinese restaurant all arount 6/3/2005

This place has some of the best chinese food in town. Their food is simply amazing, all of the items are fresh and prepared the way it should be. Their lunch specials are always under $5.00 and include a main dish, fried rice, soup, and an egg roll. More than enough to fill up most people with room to spare. And they have a very wide selection on both lunch and dinner menu. They always have a very high sanitary rating. The staff is always courteous and friendly. The service is very fast and they can usually serve a line out the door in under 10 minutes. If you are looking for good chinese food for a great price, this is your place. I guarantee you will not be disappointed. I go there about once a week and never get tired of them. Pros: Great Food & Value, Fast and Friendly, Very Clean more

it all tastes the same 8/22/2002

my husband and i ordered chicken and broccoli and also ordered beef and vegetables - it was all the same!! the chicken and broccoli was essentially just veggies without any broccoli. i took a chance on this place based on the reviews and was disappointed. it wasn't any cheaper than any other chinese place either. i prefer ""pearl chinese"" on avent ferry. more

The owner is the nicest man! If you visit more than once, he will recognize you and even remember what you order. They will even let you special order your food. I love chinese food and BeanSprout is by far the BEST I've ever had! Pros: great service, great food, great prices Cons: There are no cons more
